We booked a family lodge even though there was just the 2 of us as we wanted the option to self cater incase we couldnt eat out. The lodge was beautiful and very peaceful and we felt very safe with the cleanliness of it. The hot tub we used as they are drained and cleaned out before each guest -such a delight to sip a gin in the early evening in it. The hotel was perfectly located to visit Lynmouth, Valley of the Rocks and the west coast. The only niggle we had is that after a 5 hour drive and arriving at 3.45 our room wasnt ready until 5. We were given an hour later checkout but perhaps a free drink at the coach house would have been a good idea. We understood that the cleaning takes longer with covid rules so it didnt really bother us as its best to be safe.

Had been promised a suite with champagne on arrival. Neither materialised. Room large but not a suite, no champagne. To make things worse the champagne we didn't receive had been added to the bill when we came to check out. Covid safety poor. When we went to use the shower we found an open, part-used shower gel in the shower. In normal times this would be poor housekeeping, in Covid times it is unacceptable. Check rooms are sanitised properly before guests arrive please. Restaurant service and food quality inconsistent. Sunday night my wife's steak was tough, my hake at best luke warm. Breakfast first morning no toast offered. Monday night's main courses much better and the breakfast on Tuesday morning fine. Staff mask wearing best described as variable in standard or not at all.

Anniversary treat today, good lunchtime menu and cod in beer batter was the nicest I have ever had! Waitress Nicki made us feel very special and was a delight! Could not fault it and will definitely be going again!

This place is a hidden gem. Before we went (early August), we read some of the recent reviews & were a little concerned, but we needn’t have been worried. We traveled as a family of 4 (2 young children) & stayed in one of the lodges with the hot tubs for 7 days in August. My mother in law also came & stayed in one of the rooms. Very clean lodge (and room!), lovely decking area with great views both over the countryside & indeed the site. There were a couple of issues within the lodge if we were to be really picky but nothing major or that would stop us from enjoying our stay. The internet can be a little hit & miss also subject to the weather. Tucked away, its important you have a car to go out & explore what around you. The staff are very helpful & cannot do enough to make your stay as comfortable as possible. There is a also a lot of young staff who are very keen to do well which is great to see. Young people get enough stick nowadays, but this place is full of good guys. The food is fantastic – this can’t be faulted. When we were there they had just introduced a new children’s menu which I believe is something they have added since the takeover earlier this year. I would describe there being some teething issues at breakfast time but again, nothing major at all & I think everyone could be forgiven for things not going as smoothly as normal in this year of all years where rules changes on a daily basis. It must also have made training & employing new start a real battle. A special mention to Jade who works on the reception / office & was a great help throughout. There was a lady who worked on many of the days we had breakfast too but I don’t have her name – she was a real asset to the hotel too. We’d also see the manager around daily who would speak to us & insist on us telling him if we needed anything or were unhappy about anything. Lovely part of the world, great people, committed staff & we look forward to going again in the future – thanks for a lovely stay.

We had a lovely break in North Devon staying at this hotel. We had two of our sons with us and booked 2 premier rooms. The rooms were lovely, airy and bright with huge, clean bathrooms with a shower and a bath. Despite the challenging COVID pandemic, I felt well looked after with all of the appropriate safety measures in place including good use of circulating air throughout the hotel. The breakfasts were lovely and the tables very well spaced out in the restaurant. The service was impeccable and very friendly. The food, both breakfast and dinner (we ate in the restaurant 3 times) was delicious. Smallish menu well prepared, with local produce and beautifully cooked. Nothing was too much trouble. Location also super. Would heartily recommend.
