Marinaterra Hotel & Spa is located in the heart of San Carlos, adjacent to Mexico’s largest natural marina and in front of TETAKAWI hill. Both the marina and Tetakawi hill gives us majestic views and stunning sunsets. We are 15 minutes from Guaymas Airport and a short 20-minute drive from Guaymas. San Carlos is 1 hour from Hermosillo, Sonora’s capital.

Detailed Reviews
Nice location, the Jr ste. has a great view though you are down low. I'm not convinced that the receptionist didn't lie to me when I asked for a higher room with a nicer view with the Jr suite reservation. You need to leave a 300p guarantee per pool towel and 25p per extra packet of coffee. The room either hadn't been occupied for a while, Covid cleaning restrictions still in effect, or lazy housekeeping, but we definitely have checked into cleaner hotels at much cheaper rate. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked good except that the cleaning staff took our second room key to prevent us from keeping the AC running. The room had a smell and definitely needed to have some air circulation. The hotel staff speaks some English. All in all, we will look for a different hotel next time we come back.

Good: nice view of closed marina, cactus on mountain, convenient location chosen by our tour group. A bit of upgrade for us as we came from remote area of North Mexico tour and rooms are bigger than my previous places. Since it is literally next to harbor, you can also do wildlife and sightseeing boat tour - highly recommended.
Ok: Restaurant on site is convenient and breakfast buffet is plenty. I know, they are trying to advertise as "fine dining" but dinner was hit or miss and dishes are neither "real fine dining" nor "authentic (i.e. bland)." Again, not much alternative as there are limited other restaurants on that marina and a long way to go to downtown. I know, some people complained of noise level at night. May be people from US are not used to availability of live music in this town - from nearby night club and others.
Things could improve: limited English speaking staff even at front desk. Unable to assist me booking message on site. I ended up walked myself to next building to the hotel and booked myself. Message is not good, almost as expensive as US. I had way better messages for less in Cabo!
Final take: go to San Carlos, secret playground of dessert, land locked Arizonians for natural beauty, less touristy appeal. People for AZ drove there for oceanside holidays. Do not expect first class dining, other tourist amenities or first class cleaned rooms.

Very average hotel, old but well maintained. A lot of noise all night from some machine that turned on and off every 10 seconds. The pool is exclusive for those in the condominium, you have to go to the beach club which is 500 meters away and has a beach full of stones. Staff attention is good

I stayed at the Marinaterra on Saturday, September 23, 2023 and had a very bad experience. I stayed in room 112. When assigning me the room, the hotel staff did not tell me anything about the existence of a water pump in the room adjacent to my room and the inconvenience that this would cause me. From 7 pm, when I returned to my room, a very loud noise was heard as if it were a machine (it was heard for approximately 20 seconds, every minute). I called reception to report this situation and they told me that the noise was due to a water pump that was next to the room, and that they would turn it off until 11 pm, without further ado. Since there were no rooms available, they couldn't change my room. It wasn't until I called again at 11:20 pm that they turned off the pump. The next day, from 6:40 am, the pump started working again and did not stop until I left the room at 8:30 am (with an unbearable headache). The next day I discussed this situation with management and they told me that they were sorry for the inconvenience but that, as they had informed me, there was nothing they could do. As I told the manager, I find such a response unacceptable. All hotel staff were aware of the noise generated in that room by the water pump, so the least they could do was inform the guests (in this case me) of that situation when making the reservation, but they did not do so. they did, but they limited themselves to apologizing, without offering any other solution, not even compensation or discount for the inconvenience. So be careful if you are assigned room 112, the noise will not allow you to rest at all
Also consider that, although the hotel has a beach club, it closes at 2 pm when there is an event at night, which affects the rest of the guests. In my case, a wedding was scheduled for the night of the day I stayed at the hotel, so I was only able to spend 20 minutes at the beach club.

First the good, The room had an amazing view and was well furnished.
Now the bad, I informed the staff at the front desk that I did not speak a lot of Spanish. The check in gentleman spoke next to no English and seemed bothered that I couldn’t speak the local language. After checking in the RFID card they gave to be able to use the stairs and elevator was held together in a plastic sleeve with staples keeping it closed. The elevator was very old and small so my wife left claustrophobic in it. When we took the stairs back down from the 4th floor there was no lighting from the third floor to the bottom floor. The remote for the streaming box that is in the room was broken so I went down to the front desk to let them know and I also had to ask for the specific WiFi password for my room. They said someone would come up in 10 minutes to fix the remote and no one ever came. After that the TV kept turning on and off on its own which continued all night long and into the morning. When the TV started up I recorded what it was doing on my phone and took it to the front desk to show them and again was told someone would be up to fix it in 10 minutes. After this the toilet in the room would not flush and almost overflowed. When we tried to call housekeeping the woman that answered did not speak any English at all and was speaking Spanish so fast I could not even try to follow along.
In the morning (with still no working toilet and a TV in the sleeping area that kept turning on and off all night long) I went down to the front desk to check out and informed them again of the room situation and the front desk said, “Sorry” and it felt like they just brushed me off since I did not speak Spanish.

We were shocked at how rude and incompetent the manager and front desk staff were at the Marinaterra. We added a night to our reservation and they forced us to pay for a third night because the reservation was recorded under a different name (not our fault). We didn't sleep because the hallways are made if tile and so loud outside our door. The Smart TV apps did not work, there were small cockroaches in the bathroom, and the hotel staff knocked and WALKED into our room while we were there to ask if we were checking out! I never leave reviews but feel compelled to leave one here. We had so many bad experiences staying here. The rude attitude towards foreigners was obvious and our friends that stayed there experienced that as well.

Bad service. They closed the entrance to the marina without warning that they would. We were in the
Bar Marvida and 00:00 we returned. It was already closed. We had to walk quite a bit to get in the main. We asked the night attendant and he just commented “I’m coming in I don’t know” I will never come back and I don’t recommend it.

The administration for this hotel does not exist… I called the front desk 5 times to report noise (someone was moving furniture every 5 to 10 minutes on another room) I was on a suite… they told me many times that they will send security until they gave me the security direct number for me to talk to him…. I spoke with them 3 more time and they were never able to talk to the other customer… they said they never found anyone…. This happened for over 3 hours… and I recorded it to prove) from 11:00PM+ until 2:45AM or so… totality incompetence…
Also when we arrived to the suite the faucet was leaking and created a mess … that was fixed with in an hour….
The remote control from one of the TVs never worked…
When I checked out, the guy was not friendly (neither rude) and I was never asked how was my staying… it was only one night … definitely Service is not their strength… I will not comeback to it….
There other hotels close shop around and try to avoid this one is you can…
Have a nice vacation….

You better go to the new Hotel Maria in front of this. Marinaterra may have been financial problems and to solve them they may charge you for whatever they find in their “hotel policies” and the people in administration, accounting and invoicing won’t be willing to listen even if you prove them they are wrong. They understand their business as a real state one not as an experiences provider. I won’t go back by any chance. BE CAREFUL, DON’T GO THERE!!

We spent two nights here and enjoyed our stay. The view of the marina from our balcony was nice. We only had a balcony with standing room - no seating but it was still nice to have. It was nice to have a safe and hair dryer in the room. It was our first experience of putting our room key in a box by door to turn on electricity to room. It was great to see electricity being conserved. They had a nice restaurant and the breakfast offering selections was large and included a station for omelets and eggs anyway you wish. Many traditional Mexican dishes along with American. The pool desk was large with hot tub, children’s play area and a bar. The staff was great to work with. If ever in San Carlos stay here.
