The hotel is perfectly lacated just some blocks away from the cathedral and downtown. But the most valuable thing is that service was flawless, food was amazing and the rooms very pretty and comfortable (the hotel overall is pretty and very well decorated). The only issue we had was that there was a construction in the building aside that walked us up very early in the morning with all the noise, however there were very kind and moved us to another quiet room and we enjoyed the rest of the weekend. We had a great dinner at Moxi with the best apple tart ever (with an incredible lavender ice cream). All the staff including doorman, receptionists, waitresses, etc were really kind and always anticipated our needs. We would certainly stay here again.

We stayed in the Hotel Matilda for 4 nights in February 2020. The hotel is beatiful, with gorgeous common areas, including cool art and a very attractive pool. The rooms are gorgeous too--during daylight. Unfortunately at night the room lighting is so lacking it is comical. Forget reading in the room, or truly seeing yourself in the bathroom mirror. It's just mood lighting. And you can't see anything on the built-in shelves. The bed was awesome--very comfortable with great sheets and pillows. The towels were great too. The "included continental breakfast" was good. The pool was freezing and completely unusable--so it was just for looks. We saw people swimming in the nearby Rosewood hotel pool, so the Rosewood pool must have been heated. The thing that annoyed us the most was the charge for bottled water in the room that we learned about only at check out. There were pint sized bottles of water by the bathroom sink and on the night stands by the bed. Each night with turn down service the staff brought a bucket of ice and two bottles of water. It turns out there was a charge of 50 pesos (~$2.75 US) for each bottle of water. This was pretty annoying, especially given that our room rate was over 400 USD per night. Next time we would stay elsewhere.

Tucked away in the Matilda Boutique hotel is Moxi restaurant. You can either sit out in the lanai area close to the back patio and pool or inside with an equally gorgeous view. Modern decor and dark color accents are all around. Fine linens, silver wear and plates adorn the table. The menu is in Spanish and English. We ate breakfast with friends and enjoyed the attentive wait staff and friendly atmosphere. I had tea, and a healthy egg white omelette with avocado and mushroom and fresh side salad. My husband and friends enjoyed Eggs Benedict with hollandaise sauce, muffin, bacon and potatoes, chilaquiles and more. After we ordered, they brought light toast, butter and jam to tide us over until our orders arrived which was most appreciated. There were only a few other tables enjoying their meals, so it wasn't loud. Tables are a nice distant apart so we had plenty of room around us. I highly recommend getting a tour of the property if the manager Gustavo is available. They have an eclectic art collection and the history of Matilda Boutique hotel is fascinating. Plus, bar Mui upstairs is a cozy place for a drink before or after dinner.

Just returned from six days at the Matilda. The hotel itself is beautiful....well appointed, great location, good food, spacious, modern rooms and amazing art. The staff are extremely hard working, efficient and kind. For an award winning hotel, however, the staffing was woefully inadequate. There are simply not enough staff to handle the guests. It is unacceptable to wait 20 minutes for coffee in the morning. The upstairs bar is a wonderful meeting place but there is only one bartender working at any time It was impossible to grab a quick drink before heading out to dinner. We arrived on a Tuesday before Dia de los Muertos, when the hotel was nearly empty and experienced the same lack of adequate staffing that we did during the weekend when the place was full. . Also was disappointed in the front desk manager (female, never got her name) who was dismissive and non-responsive on nearly all occasions. Upon asking her any type of question, she would quietly reply no, that is not possible at this time, "come back in an hour" and then look right through you with a smile on her face. Whether you couldn't get your room key to work, needed supplies or wanted to convert small sums of money-no explanation why nothing was possible or what would be different in an hour-just "come back in an hour". The hotel itself is beautiful, modern and impeccably clean. The food in Moxi restaurant is top notch. But the lack of staffing and quality of front desk management need addressing @ $500/nt+
