Hotel Matilda was absolutely one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. The staff was so friendly, accommodating and helpful. The room was spotless, modern and exquisite. It is very centrally located and you are able to walk everywhere. The front reception staff were extremely welcoming and guided you to wherever you wanted to go. We will definitely go there again and strongly recommend the property.

We had a wonderful experience at this lovely boutique hotel. The concierge staff Gabby, Gustavo, & Omar were amazing helping with restaurant recommendations , local suggestions, directions etc. The dining room staff also went above & beyond as well as housekeeping. Highly recommended & made us feel at home in San Miquel de Allende.

We visited Hotel Matilda over Christmas and had a fabulous time. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is attentive and friendly. Our Christmas Eve dinner was a special treat, the food was exceptional and the wine pairing was perfect. I am looking forward to a future visit.

I really appreciate the staff at this hotel. Friendly, kindhearted, sincere, happy and go the extra mile to make you feel special. The food was also lovely, and I appreciated the little touches. I think the continental breakfast offered should have more choices, it was only some fruit, yogurt and toast. My bathroom wasn't the greatest, I stayed in room C9. The shower wasn't always hot, the tub was older, and you could tell it needed updated with new caulking. The faucet in sink sprayed water onto the floor. I appreciated the turndown and the fast housekeeping. I am a travel agency owner and paid regular rates the same as one of my clients would pay. I felt the room price the hotel charged is a little higher than what they should be based upon what is offered. Overall, I'm glad I am happy I stayed. Ralph Iantosca

The architecture is fabulous. Our “suite” was beautiful, but really just a large room. The common area features an excellent mural. We very much enjoyed the central location in the old part of town. They are going through some growing pains, however. We were given one bottle of water per day and so needed to pay up or go out and buy sufficient water (we did that for a few dollars - silly given the $700 per night charge). They rented the room below us to a couple with a dog that barked late at night and early in the morning. We went to draw a bath and the water was barely warm by the time the tub filled. There was a “continental breakfast” included but not actually offered without asking a few times and totally insufficient when it arrived. Also no tea kettle in the room. My recommendation: charge $20 more per night and provide unlimited water and a proper breakfast. We felt very nickeled and dimmed…

Whether it's your first visit to San Miguel de Allende or you've been coming for years, I highly recommend the Hotel Matilda. It's ideally located only a few blocks from the City Center and is very comfortable with its modern rooms and lovely Zen patio, outdoor bar, and pool. The entire staff is great! Professional, efficient, and friendly. Always ready to help... they really do make you feel at home.

There are few hotels in the world like the Hotel Matilda. From the architecture to the serenity (the only sounds you'll hear will be birds and rustling leaves from the trees above), to the spacious plushy rooms,Matilda is ideal. The Michelin-starred restaurant, Moxie, is so worth trying, the soothing spa will have you too relaxed to move, and the staff and GM are all so helpful and friendly. They all went out of their way for me EVERY TIME. When I told Concierge Gustavo Lopez that I wanted to learn more about the gigantic dolls they call Mojigngas, he gave me the address, San Francisco St. where they make them. (All the San Miguel de Allenders with whom I spoke didn't know that). An extraordinary experience The hotel is blocks form the main square and a few blocks from a gorgeous park. The rooms are spotless, the amenities are high-end, and there's no better place to stay at this UNESCO Word Heritage city. The only thing I hated was leaving.

Hotel Matilda exceeded all of my expectations. The hotel itself is unique in that it's almost like an apartment complex. It's not just a vertical structure where you're on floor 5, 6, or 7. It's broken up into units (kind of) with each offering a unique view and experience. This layout allows the front desk, bar, and restaurant to incorporate an outdoor/indoor vibe (along with unique art and beautiful decor) that was calming, relaxing, and inspirational. As for the room itself, my room was spacious, comfortable, modern, and immaculately clean. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the shower. It was in a bathtub - whereas I'd prefer something a bit roomier. Wasn't a deal breaker - it just stood out as being the only thing about the room I wasn't crazy about it. I LOVED having a balcony, and the bed and pillows were SO comfortable. I have to shout out the maid service. I usually don't even use the maid service when I travel but Hotel Matilda does it right. The room is left spotless and I came to love the turndown service. That brings me to what REALLY separates this hotel from the rest: the staff. Every Matilda person I interacted with was exceptional. Incredibly helpful, thoughtful, anticipated needs, kind, fun, funny, and constantly, proactively thinking of ways to improve your stay. I was honestly blown away by how wonderful they were. I found myself looking forward to seeing them each day. Lastly, I found the hotel location to be right in the heart of everything. I walked almost everywhere. Don't wanna walk? The hotel staff will be happy to get you a taxi - and for only 70 pesos (at the time of this review) you can go anywhere within the perimeter.

I stayed here last week and what a horrible experience. The front desk staff were extremely unpleasant and the property is not much to look at. The pool is in the middle courtyard and a family was swimming and you could here the noise. Not only is the pool in the courtyard but so is the restaurant and bar. Noise, Noise, Noise. One other thing: The room was musty and the decor looked nothing like the website. I travel frequently travel and this was my fourth trip to San Miguel. The Rosewood while more expensive is a much better choice. I don’t frequently write reviews but I’m hoping to save someone from my nightmare.

Hi Michael, I apologize that you were inconvenienced when you requested an early check-out after hours of using the room same day you checked-in at no cost - which was left with a smoke smell-. As per our hotel policies, a room that has been checked in must be charged, even if the guest decides to leave early. This is especially the case when we are unable to sell the room due to the fact that it was smoked in. Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused, and I hope you can understand our policies in this matter. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you.
