We came to Sam Miguel de Allende on a whim from Mexico City and decided to stay the night. I think we were fortunate to have found this place. It’s friendly staff, central location, clean rooms, parking, good WiFi, and wide porches added to our enjoyment of this hacienda style accommodation. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.
2-3/5 We three British middle aged guys were exploring the area in May and had booked this hotel in advance the day before from Guanajuato on B dot com (1000 per night). It promised to be central and the image with the room had a bath which we were looking forward to as showers are the norm. We arrived in the early afternoon on a Thursday (via a coach to the main coach station, then a local bus at the centre’s bus stop, walking the long scenic route through the squares and enormous market) to find a pretty, sprawling low colonial verdant complex at the far end of the market. Yes it was central! A fountain and very pretty courtyard added to the charm. The friendly receptionist checked us in and gave us the keys to room 107 which we found at the end of a long open corridor in the right hand (market) corner of the complex. We walked in at about 15:03 to find a large well appointed room with three single beds, two armchairs, a writing desk with chair, a coffee table and a small shower room in the corner, i.e. not as expected. Two bottles of water, plastic cups, basic toiletries, plenty of towels and toilet paper were provided. I told my friends not to settle down as I rushed off to the reception to see if they had a room with a bath in as advertised. Thankfully they did and he did not argue so I returned with a new key, located the new room 109 directly above and entered at 15:06. This was a much nicer, very big room with two double beds, a large fitted wardrobe with drawers and a large bathroom, hurrah! The room had a central fan with a medium size LED TV and enough sockets for our devices. Unfortunately the WiFi was not that good as the room was at the end of the corridor with lots of solid walls between. A fitted gas heater was also present for the winter. Two armchairs, a writing desk and a TV were also present (no English channels I seem to remember). The bathroom was much nicer than the tiny showerroom below and we made use of the tiled handmade bath the next morning, although there was some hair in bath plug hole which I extracted with my plastic tweezers (brought along for these and other circumstances), otherwise the bath was clean but the shower head was fixed so it was difficult to rinse clean after I found (but I managed!). We made some coffee (with our portable heating element and pot, I had gone out to buy some milk locally, whilst my friend bought some beer and snacks), relaxed on the lovely small balcony in the sun listening to the birdlife and later headed out for the afternoon and evening. I also explored the grounds and found the in-house restaurant which offered some well priced local dishes and a breakfast. On returning in the late evening we decided that we wanted the stay another night so I went to reception and asked if the same room were available. The same guy as before was there (a long shift!) and said it was unavailable and the whole hotel was full that Friday evening and weekend. We slept well as it was so peaceful in the enclave. On my earlier explorations I had noticed that the Rotary Club was immediately below and had some English classes during the day. They did not party that night! My friend and I managed to get some WiFi and book the next night ahead in Hospedaje Casa Lupita (which turned out to be excellent at only slightly higher prices (1040) but newer and much better furnished with breakfast included). In the morning we made coffee and bathed. The milk was still OK in the corner with a wet flannel (pity no refrigerator) and we checked out at noon precisely and reluctantly. We did not sample the restaurant (although we checked it again - I posted the pictures) as it was closed between breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately we never dined there but spread our money elsewhere. …
I first visited this hotel in a garden 40 years ago when, as a hippy living in a home with several others in Calle Loreto we got up enough cash and had dinner here. Well it has not changed much at all. This is a great place to stay if you are tired of Hilton accommodation...and want a genuine experience. Did I mention it was quiet? Slept well...what more do you need. Furnishings are tired...but hey. Enjoy San Miguel.
It is a great hotel, great price and Great location. I passed a weekend there with my family and my Girlfriend and it was incredible the best service I had in quite some time, delicious food from their restaurant and well the place was so good and beautiful not to mention that it was next to one of the biggest markets from the town and really close to the main plaza so you can walk everywhere without a problem. We asked for a room with double beds and when we got there we had 3 beds on the room. they gave us more than what we reserved for for the same price and it was really great.
Was there for three weeks this winter. Made a reservation for next winter for 5 month. Very central location within three blocks of main square. Many good and budget restaurant's in area. Pool is unheated. Nice garden with fountain and sitting area. Old section has chairs outside your room to relax in. Attached restaurant severs quality food. A place to just vedge out at. Has some long term guests that come back year after year.
