We recently spent 5 nights in the Mexico Suite! The suite is large, nicely furnished and has beautiful Mexican artwork! Antonieta and Francisco are caring owners who treat all their guests well. They set up transportation for us locally and to and from the airport. The courtyard and rooftop are very pleasant. The breakfast are excellent, may be spicy, but they are very accommodating for special orders.

Property's Favorite Review
We stayed for 5 wonderful nights at Antigua Capilla in April 2022 and loved every minute of it! We thought both the B&B and the location were perfect. It sits towards the top of a hill that overlooks the historic center, which gives it views, a slightly more local feel and a bit more quiet. San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful and lively town, with the centro area's sites and great restaurants only a 10-15 minute walk away, albeit down a moderately steep hill. (We are from Seattle and the hills here are much steeper than in San Miguel) We were told the taxi is only $2-3 but we love to walk and enjoyed the stroll back at the end of the evening. The area is clean and safe and we didn't have any concerns about walking late at night. When I originally planned the trip, I'd thought of staying down the hill and a bit closer to town but I'm so glad that I chose Antigua Capilla because it was nice to get away from the crowds and noise after enjoying full days and evenings there. I liked escaping up the hill, where a beautiful rooftop view and quiet awaited. I love crowds and activity, but I also value a quiet night's sleep, which I got here. The only noises to be heard were a couple neighboring roosters. We rather enjoyed this as it just added to our experience and they did not get in the way of a good night's sleep. Ear plugs were available as they think of everything here, but even I, who am a light sleeper, did not need them. The B&B was built around a beautiful old chapel, which sits in the lush courtyard, and the entire property is both charming and absolutely beautiful. There is traditional Mexican art from different regions tastefully displayed throughout. A cool retro refrigerator sit in the corner of the courtyard and is fully stocked with juices, mexican beers (some of them from the owner's craft brewery), soda and bottled water that are available on an honor system. You take what you like, mark it on a little board attached to the frig and then just pay at the end. This was very convenient as there were a few times that we decided to enjoy a cold beer or soda up on the rooftop deck before getting ready for dinner. Our room, the Mexico suite, was incredibly spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable, including the best bed ever- not too firm and not too soft. We peeked into a couple of other rooms which were not as big as ours but looked just as pretty and well appointed. We did not miss the lack of airconditioning, as the large ceiling fans work silently and did a perfect job of keeping us cool and comfortable. Extra fans were available, but we did not need them! Every morning we enjoyed a full breakfast, with a different traditional egg dish. There was also beautiful bowls of fruit, yogurt and granola. My husband is usually not a fan of melons, but the fruit was so sweet and flavorful that even he was raving about it! Of course, a place is only as good as the people that work there and in this case the proprietors really make this place sparkle. Antonieta and Francisco were both incredibly warm and helpful. Either Antonieta or Francisco greeted us at the start of our breakfast every day to hear about our plans and see if they could help us with anything. They were so personable and shared their local knowledge freely. Before we even got there, Antonieta reached out to see if there were any questions or if I needed help with any arrangements. She helped me arrange onsite covid tests as well airport transfers and a guided trip to Guanajuato. She used her local contacts to research various tequila tasting options to find what would work best for our schedule. Our covid test results did not arrive when expected and she called the testing service and we had the results shortly after her call. We could have called ourselves, but she did this so we could continue on and enjoy our day, which was much appreciated! Antonieta also gave us several sets of dinner recommendations, which were all spot on. Antonieta and Francisco are perfect hosts and have really thought of everything to make their guests stay easy and enjoyable. We absolutely will be back!

We saw the picture of one of their suits and reserved it. It had a king bed, with a heated mattress pad, ( I use one at home and so appreciated it here too). There were two fireplaces to warm up by, ( you can tell I’m cold blooded and it was the first part of February). We were coming from Mexico City and the owner suggested she send a driver for us, Which I’m glad she did, ( cost less than if I had hired someone from Mx. City to drive us, plus the car was clean as well as plenty of room for all our luggage and safe). That was so thoughtful and considerate of her. The B&B was designed by the American owners, with an architect, I was amazed at all the details, accessories and furnishings she selected for a beautiful place for guest to stay. I think other reviews have written about the quality of food & Service, the rooftop view, so there’s not a lot more for me to add, except you will meet nice people at the breakfast table, ( we went for drinks with one couple, went to dinner and spent some time in the museum together as well as indulging in Mexican chocolate and Churros, with another couple). Oh did I say it was at a quit location too! Bob over there is a Mexican holiday, and downtown was filled with Mexicans tourist, other tourist, mariachi bands, restaurants for fall, and they were even several couples getting married. So being up the hill was a good thing. The town has a lot to offer, tip= take a dinner walking tour, you’ll Learn a lot and have amazing food too.

Antigua Capilla is a truly special experience in all ways - exquisitely appointed with beautiful art, sculpture, ceramics and books; delicious and plentiful Mexican breakfasts; and most importantly, the warm welcome and helpfulness of Antonieta and Francisco. Our hosts couldn’t have been more generous, answering all questions, setting up cab rides and helping us with any and all arrangements. On one evening when our taxi did not appear, Francisco drove us to our dinner appointment. The staff - Rita, Marta and David - were super friendly as well as competent. The B&B itself is immaculate and really beautiful, with every detail carefully curated. We loved the warm colors, beautiful art, big bathtub, fireplace, comfortable bed and coziness of our room. We spent many happy hours enjoying an amazing view of San Miguel from up high, on the rooftop, replete with tables, chairs, couches and plants. In addition to the room, it was so pleasant to walk through courtyards and gardens within the house. We just loved it all and would highly recommend a stay at this fabulous B&B.

Truly one of the best places I’ve ever stayed in—and I’ve stayed in over 40 countries! Antonieta was a superlative host: every detail was thoughtfully taken care of, from helping us arrange a private transfer from Mexico City to ensuring that our coffee was always topped up at breakfast. The property is immaculate, the staff are friendly, and the rooms (at least the one we stayed in!) are gorgeously decorated. The locale is quiet, the rooftop view is sublime, and the bed is extremely comfortable. Not to mention the 16th century chapel that quietly resides in the courtyard! San Miguel de Allende is a bit like Marrakech or Grenada, Spain in that the streets are narrow and winding and old and fascinating. The energy of the place is palpable and Antigua Capilla is in the midst of that incredible energy. I noticed that many of the larger hotels are situated down past the town, kinda removed from the action. They don’t know what they’re missing! I love that this b&b is set on the hillside, but not too much of a trek from the main square. (And you get to take it all in at sunset from a couch swing up on the roof.) We stayed for three nights and could have easily stayed for another three. I cannot recommend this property enough.

We had another fantastic visit to San Miguel and Antigua Capilla. This remains at the top of the accommodations I’ve ever stayed in. Antonieta and Francisco are wonderful, friendly hosts and always helpful procuring taxis and answering our numerous questions. The building is architecturally stunning and no detail is left out. There are high end arts from all around Mexico that decorate the building and each themed room. Every night I soaked in the enormous bath tub and later relaxed by the beautiful gas fireplace. The room was spotless, the bed and pillows extremely comfortable as well as the high end linens on the bed. Every morning we enjoyed a delicious different Mexican breakfast, complete with fresh fruit, entree, homemade bread and marmalades. Each afternoon we spent some time on the rooftop deck relaxing and enjoying stunning views of the city. Put this B&B at the top of your list when you come to San Miguel.

This beautiful B&B was absolutely perfect for our visit to San Miguel! The hosts and staff were so warm and welcoming, and the breakfasts were delicious. They thought of everything to make us comfortable, from bed warmers (I want one at home!) to plenty of places to recharge our phones. The room was lovely, with lots of light and space, and unique artwork. The location was great, too - close to downtown, but in a quiet oasis away from the crowds. The B&B also has a rooftop terrace with a stunning view of San Miguel, perfect for watching sunsets. We loved it and hope to return soon!

Perfection, oasis, quiet within the city, professional, cozy, outright stunning, amazing views. These are just a few great words to describe Antigua Capilla (ancient chapel). Within the courtyard, there is indeed a small, beautiful ancient chapel that they have preserved that adds to the beautiful grounds of this inn. Details are important to the kind owners who were ever present and so helpful. The room was cozy, spacious, and peaceful at night. Sure, there were some city noises that other reviewers mentioned, but we slept like rocks and those things should be expected. The walk back from the main square took a matter of minutes and typically took 12 minutes give or take from what part of the main square or park you were in. It is uphill but worth it after enjoying the amazing food and tamarind cocktails San Miguel has to offer. The owners will show you what street to use vs google maps and after a time or two, it will be easy breezy and you can use the google map for reference. We were safe, with a beautiful place to go back to with delicious breakfasts too! This was the right choice vs being in the square for what felt like a private getaway to watch the sunset with a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. Antonieta also arranged private, safe, budget friendly private transfer to and from Mexico City as well as an in-room massage... again... all A+. Thank you Antonieta and Francisco and team!

Highly recommend this beautifully appointed bed and breakfast. Communication with owners was excellent, with great recommendations for restaurants and a tip to visit the magical, nearby botanical gardens. The room and setting were even nicer than the photos. Breakfast was delicious and ample. Fabulous rooftop patio with amazing and expansive view of town and surroundings. Up the hill a bit in a very pretty section of San Miguel on a pedestrian calle, a short 10 minute walk to downtown and an inexpensive taxi ride back up if desired. Antonieta arranged for early morning transportation to the airport! Thank you. We will not hesitate to return and will highly recommend to friends and fellow travelers.

When we were looking for a place, we decided access to views and just outside city centre, and this was our choice. Thank goodness as it is a BEAUTIFUL Bed and Breakfast. The breakfast is true cuisine. Delicious. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. And the staff all friendly, hallucinate and very diligent. Highly recommended, WAY better than a hotel for those who love Bed and Breakfast. Don’t miss out.

Room Tip: Like the rest of SMA, it’s not very car friendly (cobble stone, hills). We used tacos and Uber.
