What a fabulous two weeks I have just spent in idyllic Ulpotha! I loved everything about it - the unique environment, yoga (Georgia is an exceptional instructor who taught me so much), warm hospitality (Suzi is incredibly attentive and gracious), delicious food, accomodation, ayurvedic treatments and wonderful massages from the visiting therapists. An added and unexpected bonus was meeting the other guests who were all so interesting and a lot of fun! I'm sure I will remain in touch with many of them. A holiday like no other!
Ulpotha is unlike anywhere else in the world - a little bit of paradise on earth. The people, the place, the ambience, the kindness - it all engenders a warm, enveloping feeling of welcome and well being. Once bitten by the Ulpotha bug you will be hooked and feel the need to keep returning.
We just came back from Ulpotha. It was amazing, as always. Although we like to explore the world and discover new places it has been our third time there. Because this place is truly unique. You immerse yourself in pure nature. Nestled in an amazing stretch of land, the village is surrounded by impressive rock formations, jungle and lakes. It was 14 days of doing my favorite things: Spending time with my missus, practicing yoga, swimming in a lake (absolutely crocodile-proof), watching nature (monkeys, birds, giant squirrels, …) while relaxing in the sun. And eat! The food is amazing. Mostly plant based and healthy as far as I can tell. With fruits and vegetables you’ve never tasted before. Everyday there’s something new to explore for your taste buds. The yoga was outstanding. With great teachers and two classes per day I made real progress within our two weeks stay. The massages do an amazing job in supporting these yoga efforts so that you always feel relaxed and never tense. Beyond all those things it’s the people who make the difference. The communal aspect of the experience is very special. We enjoyed sharing the time with our co-guests. Always fascinating to meet people with different backgrounds you would have never crossed ways with otherwise. Same with the fine people of the village who took great care of us. As always, they were happy to share their culture with the guests. Like cooking over fire, harvesting rice or their harvest ceremony. Thanks to their effort and the management of the resort things run smoothly although you’re in the middle of nowhere. The only thing I can’t really speak to is the Ayurvedic treatment because I never did it. Just not up my alley. But we’ve heard many guests talking highly about the treatment. Even without Ayurveda treatment Ulpotha is perfect for detoxing of any kind - electronics, smoking, stress, unhealthy food. So, as much as we want to find new places on this big planet I’m afraid to say that we’ll most likely be back in Ulpotha soon. Can’t wait.…
This is the most beautiful & rewarding holiday I have ever been on. The warmth & expertise of the people & the raw unspoilt natural beauty of Ulpotha was transformative for my health & well-being. I can’t wait to return.
Sounds a little over the top but I have just returned from a week at Ulpotha and I can honestly say that it was one of the best weeks of my life. Everything about it was perfect, the food, the yoga, the treatments both the ayurveda and from the visiting therapists, the accommodation and above all the wonderful people: not only those that looked after us so brilliantly but the other guests too. I met some truly fantastic people who I am sure I will know for life. I did a lot of laughing last week!! I have come away feeling calmer, stronger, happier and deeply grateful for the experience. I also feel so much better equipped to deal with the madness of the world we currently inhabit. Living so close to nature and the removal from the modern world can take a bit of getting used to for some people but it is the best thing for the soul. Sit back, relax and let Ulpotha work her magic. The only two questions you will ask yourself upon leaving is why didn't I come here before and how soon can I come back?…
