I was greatly looking forward to staying in this castle. My wife booked us in for a surprise trip but my overall experience was disappointing. It is not a castle as such, but a Manor House, as others have pointed out. It doesn't even remotely resemble a castle, to be honest, although the interior has plenty of cheap armonials and... More

So there we were, 4 ladies from the US horseback riding our way across Ireland this past June. We met Birr Equestrian at Kinnitty Castle, mounted up and off we headed up into the Slieve Bloom Mountains around the Castle. For me it was the most memorable ride of the holiday! Noel, shy, shy Noel (not) and his strapping nephew... More

Just back from 3 days here. It is a great hotel with all the history that you would expect. Located just outside Kinnitty village, the secluded castle allows you all the peace and quiet you require with good walks close by. The room was very nice but could.do with a lick of paint. As this was peeling in a couple... More

Beautiful place to truly feel you are in the castle times. Rooms are very nicely decorated and the bathroom is very updated. Grounds are lovely to walk around and the history of the place is interesting. The sitting room downstairs is beautiful to admire and appreciate antiques, the sad thing is the workers don't realize they need to keep a... More

I loved this hotel.. Very old but that's what an old castle should be like.. Staff were so friendly and helpful.. Our room was typical of a castle.. Old but fab.. With an amazing big bathroom.. No gyms, pools etc to distract you.. A real chill out zone.. Get away from it all place.. Great music in the dungeon bar..... More

Stayed there last night and had a lovely overnight trip! Received a voucher as a present and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel/food and especially our room.. When we were checking in.. The two women behind the desk were so professional but also really nice & the waitress in the dungeon bar was brilliant! I'll be back!

The castle itself, the decoration, the furniture, the library bar, the diningroom, the food, the bedrooms, the staff - there's only one word that fits: excellent!!!! We travel a lot and this accomodation belongs to our top three. We're looking forward to come back for the third time....

We celebrated our wedding at Kinnitty Castle in August last year and we are so happy that we chose it. The staff are so friendly and will help you to make your wedding as formal or alternative as you wish. We held our ceremony in the beautiful Great Hall, afterwards spilling out to the courtyard garden for drinks and photographs.... More

Now here is a fine imposing Castle with loads of old world charm. Great banqueting hall which seems to be in demand for wedddings. Lovely dungeon bars. Seems to be straight out of a Harry potter movie!. We called in for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Would call again. Friendly staff.

We were in the Ingram suite just off of the courtyard. The room was huge and well appointed. The bathroom en suite was massive with a beautiful claw foot tub. We dined in the library bar, the dungeon bar and Sli Dala. The food was world class with generous portions and diverse selections. The grounds are extensive and beautiful with... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Kinnitty Castle, is close to the picturesque village of Kinnitty, Co. Offaly set beautifully against a backdrop of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. The Castle has a long and turbulent history. Dating originally from 1209, Kinnitty was destroyed and rebuilt not once but twice and yet it retains character and oozes charm. Kinnity is in a great location only 90 minutes from Dublin and is a great stop off point for journeys west or southwards.
