Detailed Reviews
This was the last leg of our Maine adventure. Accommodations are not fancy (reminded me of my grandparent cotrage in the Wisconsin north woods) but clean and cozy. The food is remarkable. "Maine in a bowl" is how I would describe the scrumptious seafood chowder. Perhaps the food highlight of our trip. Jackson, the on-site manager, goes above and beyond to ensure guest satisfaction. I dont think I've had a hotel try harder to ensure you are happy, even from 5 star rated places. A great way to end our vacation.

our family decided to extend our weekend snowmobile trip by an extra day and were able to find rooms at the inn at the last minute. I can’t recommend this place enough. Clean, friendly, and fantastic restaurant- pub. Was family friendly and the owners were very nice. I had salmon for dinner and it was great.
Woke up to the local herd of deer being fed outside the windows and the kids were thrilled.
Thank you to the inn by the river at the forks for a lovely experience.

Stayed for just two nights, one of which was NYE.
Kim, the owner has an amazingly happy team… that must stem from her, she’s always welcoming and smiling..it’s infectious.
Room was very clean, bed was very comfy and we had two good nights sleep.
The bar area and dining room are ver welcoming and there is a good selection of home cooked food. Breakfasts are a continental offering within the room rate, but you can order other hot things at a small extra cost.. There are some really good local hikes which the inn will point you in the right direction of..
Highly recommended and excellent value…check out their website to see all the activities that they offer and can arrange ..

My husband and I had a great stay at Inn by the River! The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating answering our questions and getting us booked for our weekend stay. We were excited that one of the pet friendly rooms was available as we had been hoping to bring our dog with us. The inn is beautiful and our room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the fireplace in the lounge area, and the food at the on-site restaurant was delicious and had some nice gluten free options. It was easy to hop on the snowmobile trails right out of the parking lot! We would definitely recommend staying here, and hope to be back soon! 😊

We happened upon Inn by the River when we were out snowmobiling with our 6 yr old and needed a break for a snack. Instantly our daughter and Steve (Mr Grubby) made a connection and became fast friends. We ended up coming back to help Steve feed the deer the next morning, and stopped several other times during our week in the area for gas, meals, and to visit. All of the staff are amazing, everyone we encountered was so nice and ready for conversation any time we stopped. The food is phenomenal and better than your normal snowmobiling stop. We will definitely stay here next time we come back to Maine to snowmobile again!!

I paid for a 2 night stay at this Inn via Expedia . I stayed only one night and left The next day . Here’s why... The mattress is covered with charming quilted bed cover but the mattress is decrepit , ragged and flat. Just enough reason to cause me back pain. Very disappointing. See attached photo , Aug 2020. The “Breakfast Included” : you are entitled for One Sugary piece of Muffin (?), yogurt and a cup of coffee. People were NOT wearing mask. Stay at your own risk.

I am sorry that you had a negative experience as we have been upgrading our rooms for the last couple of years including new mattresses. I think that part of the misunderstanding over our continental breakfast is the fact that you booked through Expedia which doesn't allow us to customize any descriptions (we are great at explaining the continental over the phone with guests). The continental includes a couple of choices of cereal, fruit, yogurt, baked goods, coffee, tea and milk. Our full breakfast menu does offer a nice variety but you do have to purchase menu items. Our staff is required to wear masks as long as the state mandate is in place so I am not sure who wasn't wearing a mask? I would recommend calling the place that you are staying at directly rather than trusting Expedia for details about your lodging.

We loved our stay here! The bed was extremely comfortable and our room was very clean. The towels and sheets were soft and high quality, which we really enjoyed. The chairs in the room were a little worn, but that didn't impact how much we enjoyed our stay. There is an enclosed porch attached to the bedroom that overlooks the river and the bathroom is spacious and also has a view of the river. There's a good restaurant on the first floor. I didn't expect the food to be so good because the location is quite isolated, but I would stay here - and eat here - again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here as a base for doing whitewater rafting. The staff were all super-friendly and welcoming and the hotel was fine, but the rooms were pretty small and needed redecorating. The continental breakfast that was included in the room rate was rubbish - just a few muffins wrapped in clingfilm and a few bananas (if you were lucky). We ended up ordering and paying extra for a cooked breakfast so we’d eaten properly before whitewater rafting. A fresh lick of paint and a decent breakfast would have put this at a higher rating.

The Inn by the River was a much-needed escape.we loved the view of the Kennebec River, and the soothing sound of the rapidly-moving water. Breakfast was delicious and if you want to pay, you may order additional food for breakfast, like Eggs Benedict, which my husband ordered. There are no TVs in the rooms, which is actually quite refreshing.Staff were so nice! There are also t-shirts and sweatshirts you can purchase. Would definitely stay here again if I had the chance!

My husband and I visited The Forks for a wedding, and we stayed at The Inn By the River. The location was beautiful, because it quite literally was by the Kennebec River. Behind the inn are a few snowmobile trails and rentals during winter that we can’t wait to try in the future. The sound of the Kennebec was very soothing and there is lawn with seating at the front of the inn that you can go and take a cup of coffee, relax, and enjoy the view! Our room was on the first floor, and were happily surprised that we had direct access to the Inn’s patio where we took our morning breakfast. They have a seasonal restaurant, and a fireplace in the commons area, and the staff, Stephanie and Scarlet were amazing. They were both friendly, thorough, organized, great with communication and had a lot of informational advice to give us for our daily hikes in the local area! We can’t wait to come back to do some rafting, snowmobiling, and river tubing in the future!

No, it wasn’t a B and B, but similar. The rooms were private with their own bath and outside patio area, but the atmosphere was very intimate. The rooms were upstairs and the reception and dining area were downstairs. The restaurant was full service with a nice bar. Hope this helps. I’m not a B and B fan either and prefer more privacy. This was very nice.
We are! The trail goes up the hill just behind the Inn and a groomer runs out of the Inn too. There is gas right on site so you can start out with a full tank or top off when you return for the evening. Super convenient!
