Great Indoors, Great Outdoors! Villa Norangdal is a little, wooden hotel from 1885, with 6 double rooms: 1900, 1920, 1930, 1950, 1960 and 1970. The furnishing is a mixture of international iconic design and classic furniture from the Sunnmore region. A tour through the Villa is a journey through the history of design from Art Nouveau via Art Deco to Scandinavian Style and Space Age. Facilities include a lounge with log fire, outdoor jacuzzi and free wireless internet. The dining room serves "glocal food" - local ingredients prepared to global recipes and served with international side dishes and selected wines. The Sunnmore Alps shelter our guests from mobile phone signals, but the location is a fantastic starting point for walks or sightseeing in the Alesund, Geiranger/Trollstigen, Hjorundfjorden and Indre Nordfjord/Stryn areas. For outings we collaborate with DID Adventure, Yourway, Sunalp and Explore North. If you are not tempted by mountains and fjords, our local hosts will give you the best tips for a "Rural Norway Revisited" experience, with the best coffee bars, exhibitions, shopping and architecture. In other words, at Villa Norangdal you can have a holiday in Mountainpolitan Style. For more information see our Facebook page!

Detailed Reviews
You will not find a more stunning valley in Norway than the one in which this lovely inn is located. We were unaware that the Villa Norangdal and the Union Oye were located in the same valley, 20 minutes apart, ans so booked at both places on consecutive nights and loved them both. The Villa Norangdal has been in the same family for several generations, and is currently managed by Helen, who filled us in on its interesting history. We stayed in the "50s" room, which was lovely. We were cooked a lovely candlelit dinner, and Helen gave us an unexpected container of heavenly local strawberries to take to our room after dinner. Breakfast was sumptuous. The inn is a 15 minute drive from the ferry across the famed Geirangerfjord, and having seen Geiranger, the more touristy end of the fjord, we were delighted to have stayed at this inn and in this valley instead. The Geirangerfjord is certainly spectacular, but this valley was our favorite scenery in Norway. If you like conventional hotel accommodations the Villa Norangdal may not be for you. If you like a place of uncommon serenity and unsurpassed surrroundings that you will remember fondly as a distinctive Norwegian experience, do yourself a favor and spend a night or two here.

If you take a roadtrip to Sunnmøre you should definitly go visit this place in Norangsdalen (which in itself is spectacular). The hotel has rooms decorated as from 1910, 1920, 1940 etc. The owner has done a fantastic job. If you drive past here and are not staying the night, you can also get a small tour around the hotel visiting the different rooms, which I did with a couple of friends.
Not the cheapest hotel, but than agian, this is not just any hotel. You have the wonderful view to the mountains and its a nice place to stay for a small hiking weekend.
This is a sort of hotel that in europe would be in a big city, but here you are in the middle of nowhere, far away from any stress.
Guarantee a very special experience.

This hotel is really beautyful! The view of the valley is amazing, the rooms are really big and nice (and they're all from different decades), the beds are comfortable, the food is fantastic and the service is outstanding! Keep in mind it's a small hotel - so no room service.
The magnificient Slogen is nearby so we used this hotal as a "base". There is also a nice (and shorter) walk just from the hotel.

We were missled by the pictures in the internet and guests opinions. the price was very high 1900 NOK=235$ and we got a very low rate hotel.
we had to climb with our suitcases a very narrow stairs to the second floor just to enter a poor old roomw , with no TV, no table, no minibar, and a low hanging lamp over our head.
The worst thing was the curtains which were transparent, while the late norvegian light prevent us from sleep and wake us in 4:00 in the morning. the bath was too big and empty, the towels were thin and small like kitchen towels, breakfast was very cheap and poor. the entrance to the hotel was neglected and dirty by mud. arround the hotel there was no path to access the entrance but mud and puddles. the nature arround was nice as most of the view in norway, but the hotel is stuck in the middle of nowhere' giving you a feeling of a captive customer.
actually it is not a hotel, but a big old farm house with price of 5* hotel.
Be carefull, as said this is a "tourist trap".

One of the best places to stay when travelling to Norwegian fjords. Great interiour design, very cosy. Just five rooms, very well equiped and each in different design. Downstairs a lot of space to have a nice time after diner or lunch. We had a nice bottle of wine at a table close to the fireplace in July;). The place is supervised by the owner. If you have a chance - talk to her - she is a great story! 10 minutes drive to Hellesylt ferry. Great nature around. A tip - if cows or sheep block your road - simply get out of the car and gently move them to the side of the road. We have seen it working.

Charming hotel with fantastic interior design. You get a room that is designed to a specific decade, and so well performed. Everything in the rooms, everything in the whole hotel is authentic, which makes your stay so interesting.

The Villa Norangdal is a real gem, hidden in one of the most isolated, but beautiful, valleys in Norway. It is a boutique hotel with just six rooms, all very tastefully designed to reflect a specific decade of the last century. As we were first to arrive that evening, we got first choice and selected the 'Turn of the Century' one, which I can recommend. The twin lounges downstairs are luxurious; settling into a Chesterfield sofa, with a welcoming pot of tea, after a day on the road or on the mountains, with rain dribbling down the window-panes outside, is divine! We were very comfortable here, and were well-looked after here. The negatives are that we thought breakfast a bit basic for the price and the Villa is not cheap. But, it is an experience. If you do stay here, do drive down to Leknes and make the round-trip on the ferry amidst some of the most stark and lonely fjord scenery in Norway, stopping off and touring the Union Hotel at Oye for a tour on the way back. Both will richly reward your time.

I stayed at Villa Norangdal for one night on my road trip across western Norway. It was a truely uniqe experince staying there. The rooms were absolutely incredible and the pictures on the web cannot compare to seeing it live. I cannot comprehend the amount of work and effort put down to make this incredible hotel.
The service was flawless and staff very friendly. I was the only guest staying at the hotel that night and I truely felt like a king coming down to the dining room the following morning, seeing the table set just for me with all I could wish for. Home made or locally produced foods.
Or try out the execellent local beer in one of the living rooms / lounges while reading any of the books laid out. A stay at Villa Norangdal is absolutely recommended when visiting the region. You wont regret it :-)

Villa Norangdal was the highlight of our trip to the western fjords. This small hotel--really a B&B--is simply delightful. It is located in the most beautiful setting imaginable, nestled into the mountains in the Norangdal Valley. The hotel is beautifully appointed, with absolutely delicious breakfast (included) and dinner (if you want it). The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, offering tea and coffee, drinks, advice on hikes in the area, and anything else we needed. It was just an incredibly peaceful, quiet, and beautiful place. We stayed for two nights out of our five night trip and wish we had re-arranged things so we could have stayed longer.

Villa Norangdal is a privately owned beautifully renovated small hotel hidden in Norangsdalen at the foot of some of the most majestic mountains in Norway. Even though it´s some hours drive from Oslo, it´s well worth the trip. The rooms are stylishly decorated and named 1900, 1920, 1930, 1950, 1960 and 1970. The staff are very welcoming and professional always making sure that their guests experience Norangsdalen at it´s best! During our stay we went skiing at daytime and spent the evenings in the hotel with good company either by the fire place indoors or outdoors in the jacuzzi. Visit www.norangdal.com to see what I´m talking about.
