This hotel was small, quiet, and was literally right on the beach. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. We also enjoyed the free bikes. It's a hotel with not many"frills," but the staff were so lovely and attentive, and yet were able create a laid back/low key atmosphere. The hotel was very much a quiet home away from home.

Wow....what's not to like at Dune!! The absolute perfect location on Tulum Beach with the most amazing staff! I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could. The rooms are simple but extremely clean and very good air conditioning. We had ocean front and the view was amazing!! Our patio was huge with big soft bean bag chairs to lounge in. Beds are firm as is normal in Mexico and they areore than happy to bring a mattress topper when we mentioned it. The staff are all so sweet and really go out of their way to help with anything you need. Fiona at the front was amazing and so was the other girl and I'm so sorry I can't remember your name. Anything you want to know about Tulum....they can help you. Carlos and Fran in the restaurant were our servers and we loved both of them! Great beach side service. The restaurant served fabulous food and the shrimp tacos are incredible!! We loved the complimentary breakfast every morning and it was more than enough for us. Coffee, fresh juice, fruit, granola and yogurt plus an egg dish that you could pick from and toast. They have a very nice pool which we never even used because of the awesome beach. Very nice lounge chairs which was where we spent the entire day. We've been to Playa Del Carmen and Isla Mujeres and we much preferred Tulum with its less crowded and much larger beaches. Zero complaints about Dune!

My write up is going to seem kind of critical, as I’ve never been to Tulum and didn’t expect some things. So maybe all of this isn’t the hotel’s fault, but I feel as though these things need to be mentioned so people will know specific details on what to expect and are not thrown off. Overall, the hotel location is very nice. The hotel is nice. Beaches were nice and kept well. The hotel staff was great to work with; very accommodating, especially Sophi! She is a GEM! Truly appreciated her and everything she did for us. I even liked the ladies who cleaned the rooms – very friendly and personable. 😊 First off, toilet paper could not be flushed down the toilet. While I had never heard of this while I vacationed in Cabo or Cancun, this was the case in Tulum. Secondly, there wasn’t a TV in the hotel room. The hotel staff explained that they have poor signal and they are one of the few hotels which actually have electricity 24 hrs a day. I believe this, however, with the amount I was charged per day to stay at this hotel, I just felt as though this needed to be spelled out in the agreement when I paid or something. I reviewed the hotel tonight website where I made the booking, and I wasn’t able to find where they disclosed this info. Third, the keys are not a card type of key as normal. It’s an actual real key and they use the same keys on all guests they have, so kind of germy in my opinion. Fourth, the complimentary breakfast is CRAP. Literally. I’m not sure if they don’t believe in putting salt/pepper/flavor in their items, but none of the egg items were good. Their “toast” was a teeny tiny piece of cracker looking like bread – two pieces. Jam wasn’t labeled and looked disgusting. Fruit plate was decent, I guess, considering everything. There wasn’t even salt and pepper located on the tables. And when we asked for it, it was brought, but the shakers did not work! We had to actually open it from the bottom. LOL! The people in the restaurant didn’t know English. I told them I needed to leave at 9 for a tour, but they served everyone but us first. And we were actually there earlier than everyone else. The guy at the restaurant was fine. Not sure if the girl there was mad at me for speaking english to her or what, but she was not friendly or approachable. Fifth, the hotel did not have phones. Now again, I don’t know if this is a Tulum only kind of thing, but we had to whatsapp any requests. They addressed issues on a timely basis, but I was not expecting there to not be any phones. Sixth, again, the hotel staff was nice and accommodating. However, a couple of things threw me for a loop. 1) when I was trying to check out, Fiona called the restaurant to see if I had any amounts outstanding. They said I didn’t. Then she asked me whether I had breakfast any of the days. Of course, I had breakfast in your awful restaurant, but it was complimentary! Why is she asking me, as if it wasn’t? 2) My shuttle to take me to airport was to arrive at 5am, so since we were not able to partake in the complimentary breakfast that morning, Sophi mentioned that the kitchen could make a sandwich, fruit and juice and box it up. I was like, that’d be great. Of course, since my experience with the restaurant wasn’t all that, I didn’t expect anything nice at all, but I appreciated the offer. When I was checking out, I told Fiona that Sophi mentioned this to me. She said “we could definitely do that for you, and we will let you know how much you owe us”. I said Sophi mentioned that it’d be covered, since we would not be able to partake in breakfast. Fiona said, o ok, got it. Made it seem like she had us covered. In the morning – no boxed sandwich or anything. LOL! Like I said, since the restaurant was crap, it’s not like I was counting on this crap food, however, it’s just the principle. To summarize, the hotel was nice. Just a few things to watch out for or clean up and they’d be great. And I loved Sophi. Thank you!

This place far exceeded any expectation I had for Tulum. The staff was incredibly welcoming and offered the best advice for places to visit, local tips & things to know. We thought the beds were a little firm and when asked about them, the staff went ahead and add a mattress topper right away so that we'd be more comfortable. The breakfast here every morning was incredible- can't beat the ocean views and delicious made to order breakfast. Loved that the property included bikes that we could borrow to explore the strip. The hotel was centrally located so great spot if you're looking to explore Tulum by bike or walking. My husband also loved the air conditioning (apparently not very common in Tulum). Overall, really relaxing and enjoyable stay!
