#17 of 218 in Tulum
Introducing, PAPAYA PLAYA PROJECT , A MEMBER OF DESIGN HOTELS™ PROJECT a true sustainable project in Tulum. Having sought far and wide for a place to create an authentic, nurturing experience, the 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise cocooned on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera was the perfect spot. Together with the owners of of the existing Papaya Playa beach resort, Design Hotels™ is initiating the ultimate pop-up camp. Claus Sendlinger explains: “Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally-rooted experience and we couldn’t have dreamed up a better place to make this happen. Capitalizing on the natural environment and multicultural character of Tulum, we quickly put together an international team of real visionaries, each enriching the experience with their own food, music, design or wellness concept. The enthusiasm and creative energy of everyone involved enabled us to renovate the camp and put together a holistic program within a very short period of time.” So come December, the authentic-pleasure seekers have a new raw-luxe camp they can sink and rub their feet into. Eighty-seven rooms have been renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team. Integrating local materials and building techniques, they encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces while the perception of small indulgences – like high thread count sheets, flowing mosquito nets and thick towels – is heightened. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabanas, is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests into sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm.

The food was amazing tried their tacos … the waiters were so incredible especially the one that went out of his way and let me borrow his charger… mayra the pranayama instructor was so kind she was at the front desk at night when i needed a mat to do yoga and she took me to the shala and lent me one so sweet. Isac at the front desk was amazing too and there was this other guy at night that was so nice … i loved the customer service and food i felt so pampered by the staff!

First I want to Thank all the amazing staff. I wish I remember the name of all of them. The bell boys that carried our luggage thru the jungle for our gorgeous bedroom Federico and Luis. Amazing! Another Luis our great server at the Beach Club, he make sure we had a great time with all the pampering. The food was outstanding. I need the recipe of the Yellow Habanero sauce. Our room was cozy with a superb view. Felt so in love how the architecture played with nature without harming the jungle vibe. Thanks Charlie for all your suggestions and recommendations. Also, for teaching us the way and locations of everything. Thanks to Laia that assisted us with our Covid Test in the facilities making it perfect for our return home. We wish we could stay there longer. Thanks for having us!

Papaya Playa Project is not just a resort, it's a community of health, wealth, and love. From the second you enter the property, the staff, along with the art and ambiance, give you the full Tulum feel and welcomes you to your vacation in ways that are unmatched anywhere else in the world. While everyone who works at PPP was extremely kind and happy, two staff members that truly made our stay over-the-top and showered us with their bright faces every day, good energy, and the overall genuine care, front desk manager Viviana, and Operations Manager Fran (Frank), showed us what true hospitality and care feels like. I honestly cannot mention enough how nice and caring these two are. While It really is important to mention Vivian and Frank by name, it's truly worth mentioning that all the staff was incredibly kind and they are the true gold standard for hospitality. The Papaya Playa compound is really its own community. The events were incredible, the views, the staff, the cleanliness, the upkeep, and the overall look and feel are like no other resort I have ever stayed in. PPP truly encompasses what Tulum's overall feel and culture are set to feel. Love, energy, spirit, happiness, and good, clean health. The beautiful people can all be found and enjoyed at this resort. If that doesn't get you to stay here, then I should also mention that the feeling of safety while on the resort grounds stands out and make you feel extremely safe and secure. This resort is just extremely highly recommended and I cannot say enough about it. Book your trip here and you won't recommend it. You might not even want to leave the resort grounds because there's so much to enjoy.

Amazing experience from start to finish. Check in was easy and they offer you yummy fruit pops. We stayed in a casita that was absolutely stunning. I loved the private pool and the toiletries they provide. They should sell them. The beach club had great food and drinks. We went to the full moon party and had a blast. We would definitely return.

Where do I start? My girlfriends and I have been planning our trip to Tulum for months and we did a lot of research to try and find the perfect place to stay. We could not have been happier with Papaya! Front the moment we arrived we could tell that this was not just a resort, it is a full experience. The people, the music, the artwork. the vibes, the food, the architecture, everything about this place transports you to a different mindset. We originally booked our rooms in the cabanas, and I will say they are very minimal- don't expect much. However, due to a very small issue with one of our rooms (I will not go into detail because it was not the hotel's fault) Sofi from the front desk immediately assisted us and upgraded us to beachfront casitas. It was above and beyond what we expected. Everyone on their staff treated us like family and the communication was excellent using Whatsapp. Anything you need, from a hairdryer, to a towel. a reservation for dinner or spa, or any random inquiry, was answered right away on the app. The jungle breakfast which was included in our rate was outstanding and more than enough food to start the day. We participated in many immersion experiences from astrology reading, yoga, breathwork and Temazcal ceremony and each one was authentic, enlightening and added to our experience. The full moon party was also the Saturday night during our stay and it was amazing! We took one day to explore the Mayan Ruins and Cenotes with the highly recommended tour company Xaman-Ha which was top notch. I would recommend this tour company for any excursions you take. The beachside massage was one of the best I have ever had (and I am very picky about my massages). I cannot remember every single name of the staff, but Luis (security) made us feel very safe the entire time (like when a raccoon was scratching at my door at 3am and I was nervous- he came to check on me immediately). Vladimir was super helpful with our luggage and moving our rooms for us when we had the upgrade. Diego and Javier helped us before we even arrived with arranging all of our excursions, spa appointments and reservations. The waiters, bartenders and all staff made us feel at home. I would definitely recommend Papaya Playa Project and hope to visit again! It is truly a magical place.

Good value beach club! $50 USD which comes off your food/drinks bill. This beach club is in a good location from the Tulum ruins. The beach club was big, super comfy beds, it has a pool albeit a bit small but pool is important at the moment given the seaweed is so bad in Tulum. Lots of seating options facing the beach, good music. Good service from staff, lovely cocktails and lots of food options.
