Papaya Playa hosted our launch event for Latam. We got Casa Palapa for the presentations and parties and the guests stayed at the Papaya Playa rooms. First of all, the hotel it´s in a privileged location in Tulum with a magical private beach, surrounded by a majestic jungle and has a great natural concept, respecting the context and nature, but... Love this tourist friendly nite spot! Great layout for socializing, great cocktails & music is pulsating on the weekends!!! They have an upscale boutique with authentic local jewelry and array of sexy ,breezy cotton clothing. Note: Saturday's are more crowded then Friday's

If you are looking for a good and relaxing time with great music and vibes than this is your spot! I was referred to Papaya Playa by a friend who recently got married there. A girl friend and I flew into Cancun. We stayed 2 nights in Palya Del Carmen and then headed to Tulum for 4 nights with no... More

The amenities were basic and clean. The view of the ocean was amazing and we loved watching the waves from our porch. The staff were very kind and really went out of their way to make you feel welcomed and at home. Overall we had a very nice time. However, had we known that the hotel throws a party every... More

We absolutely loved our time at Papaya Playa. Why? For so many reasons - the location is amazing, the concept of the place is so cool/progressive, the stream-lined yet eco-conscious approach to environmental architecture is a refreshing change from much of what you'll find in Cancun, the breakfast in the morning which overlooked the dj set, the beach with the... This place is heaven. It manages to be rustic and chic at the same time. There is staff everywhere, very helpful and gracious tending to your every request with a smile. Food & drink service is great; simple, delicious food always served quicker than you expect. The rooms are simple, but clean and equipped with all you may need. I... More

We actually only ate at the restaurant while on a private tour. The service was outstanding and the Red Aguachille was to die for! It's a large serving big enough for sharing and makes your mouth very happy... The Ahi tuna sandwich was also huge and delicious! But the best was the view of the breathtaking beach and the sitting... More

I went there for appetizers and drinks and had a great time. The service is average but you have a hip atmosphere and the view of the ocean from the elevated vantage point is exceptional. The music is sometimes a bit loud and can make conversation difficult, but their food is good. This maybe the best place for an afternoon... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Introducing, PAPAYA PLAYA, A DESIGN HOTELS™ PROJECT hitting Tulum, Mexico from December 6, 2011 to late 2012. Having sought far and wide for a place to create an authentic, nurturing experience, the 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise cocooned on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera was the perfect spot. Together with Emilio Heredia, owner of the existing Papaya Playa beach bungalow resort, Design Hotels™ is initiating the ultimate pop-up camp. Claus Sendlinger explains: “Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally-rooted experience and we couldn’t have dreamed up a better place to make this happen. Capitalizing on the natural environment and multicultural character of Tulum, we quickly put together an international team of real visionaries, each enriching the experience with their own food, music, design or wellness concept. The enthusiasm and creative energy of everyone involved enabled us to renovate the camp and put together a holistic program within a very short period of time.” So come December, the authentic-pleasure seekers have a new raw-luxe camp they can sink and rub their feet into. Eighty-five cabañas have been renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team. Integrating local materials and building techniques, they encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces while the perception of small indulgences – like high thread count sheets, flowing mosquito nets and thick towels – is heightened. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabañas, is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests into sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm. ... more   less
