A good hostel with good ideas like the very generous make your own breakfast and free caipirinhas 6-7 all included in the price, which is very reasonable. Good sociable crowd, and plenty of communal areas. Lonely planet said there was a beach shuttle which there isn't, but they do rent (worse for wear) bikes to make your own way there.... More

The Weary Traveler is a great all round hostel to base your Tulum stay from. We had a private room, located down stairs just near the pool. The room was fine, although it would have been nice to have the bin in the bathroom emptied during our stay - no big deal though. Sunday nights the hostel does a pool... More

Chilled atmosphere, friendly staff, clean rooms, cheap in house bar, pool, hammocks, free breakfast and free pasta/rice etc...what else would you need?? We also organized a 2 tank cenote dive through the reception which was at least 10% cheaper than at any dive centre we shopped in town before, the dives were amazing and the instructor Kenny was very professional... This was an ideal hostel to stay at. They have a kitchen with an industrial cooking gear, cooking lessons, salsa lessons, a swimming pool, long communal picnic tables, and lots of other good stuff. We would love to come back here! The front desk staff were particularly kind and generous. One very minor complaint is that they gave us inaccurate... More

Stayed here 4 nights and had a great time. Couldn't ask more from a hostel. The kitchen is huge with 2 industrial ovens/ 8 gas rings, a large stand alone flat top grill, four individual work stations and every utensil under the sun. The vibe is great and the pool is a bonus. Location excellent- but you'll need a bike... More

Thank you very much for staying with us and enjoying it so much, especially the kitchen. A very wise man once told me that eating is the one thing we will do three times a day for life and that we should make the investment to do it well. Have a great trip and come back any time. More

Just a bit north of the main road, and a tad difficult to find, look for the Weary Traveler sign on the south side of the road running East West. This place has plenty of lounges, a main picknick table for lunch, a rooftop lounge/table area, and an inside room with chairs. They have a free 'cook your own breakfast'... More

We are glad that you stayed with us and are sorry that you did not get a better nights sleep. You must have slept through breakfast because it is HUGE and offers so much that no one has ever called it minimal before. We are in the middle of changing a lot of mattresses and improving a lot of the... More

We stayed at the Weary Traveler for two nights in December, 2015. The hostel is a bit less cheaper than the other hostels but the vibe was great. The common areas are really nice, the pool looked nice (although we didn't swim in it so we don't really know how it is). Rooms and showers are dirty, small and the... More

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you enjoyed the kitchen; we have recently upgraded everything so it is even better. We are also investing in new mattresses, pillows and sheet to make the stay even better. The breakfast we offer is very special and includes eggs, cereal, milk, pancakes, jam, butter. Instead of... We arrived in Tulum on 2 Jan after spening New Years in Playa Del Carmen and so it was literally a breath of fresh air being out of a city again. Upon check in around 3pm, there was a slight issue with my booking; There were no rooms with two beds and air conditioning left (which I had prebooked) so... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum was started by backpackers for backpackers back in the year 2000. The hostel was built around what they themselves wanted to find in a good hostel when they were traveling. A good social vibe A book exchange A bar with backpacker prices Communal Kitchen (loaded with free spices, salt, pepper) Full Cook Your Own Breakfast Free Rice, Pasta and lentils for dinner Good Advice on Tours and Activities Some aspects of the Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum appear to be unique but they are not. Many of them came from other hostels where we had stayed long before we dreamed of opening a hostel in Tulum. For example the Burn Your Own BBQ was inspired by the Bondi Beach Hotel's incredible steak barbi setup inside the bar. Huge, beautiful cuts of beef were in a display fridge that was part of the bar. You would say, "Yeah, give me that one!" and huge chunk of raw red meat came at you on a platter. It was your job to cook it how you wanted it. The Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum has changed, evolved, gone back to our roots and changed again and again over the years. We have always tried to evolve as a hostel, stay ahead of the competition and anticipated the changing needs and desires of our guests. So welcome to The Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum, mi casa es su casa! John, one of the originals from way back when. ... more   less
