From the moment we got there to the very last moment of check out, my mom, friend, and I had the most great experience. Our room was not only super spacious and well-maintained, but it was also very clean and up-to-date. The daily cleaning service was exceptional. Every morning we were greeted with friendly smiles from the staff, and I highly recommend eating breakfast there because the food was so delicious. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there and when I say that this place is hands-down probably the best place that we’ve eaten since being here in Tulum! The flavors and the consistency of the presentation throughout the whole week a free breakfast was honestly just so rewarding and a nice touch to staying here. The customer service was exceptional 10/10 from Nayeli, Daniel, Martin, and plenty of the other staff. Much thanks to the cooks because the food like we said before was the best we’ve had in all of Tulum. I highly recommend staying here because not only is it super authentic and unique. They have the best and most attentive staff, delicious and variety of food, and the location I promise you is like no other. This is well worth your buck and I highly recommend staying here anytime you visit. I just want to say personally thank you so much for such a beautiful and welcoming stay!My mom and I made so many memories here and we can’t get over the view from our room! I’m definitely coming back to visit soon!

Going further south you’ll reach Punta Piedra Beach where you can take pictures on the rock tick hill overlooking the ocean. You have 7/11, a pharmacy, convenience store, foreign currency exchange store, and boutiques all along the road. You can rent bikes a couple of feet down at Matteo’s Mexican grill for 300 pesos a day. I highly recommend eating there as well. It’s really good. A taxi to town (El Centro) is about $300 pesos & about 15-20 minute drive. A drive to the Mayan Ruins is about 30 minutes. The nicer beach, Playa Paraiso, with crystal clear aqua water is further up north (walking about 30 min there and 30 minutes back At the gate entry they charged $10 for the 3 of us).

Location, location location... Piedra Escondida's is unbeatable, on a secluded beach between rocky promontories, with no intrusive beach vendors, noisy jet skis or any extraneous people around. The sea and all the facilities are only a few steps away. Get onto a sunbed or into a hammock and gaze at the horizon, and any cares just dissolve. Our welcome margaritas put us in the mood straight away.
The Dream Team who run this hotel are all friendly, efficient and conscientious. Nayeli deserves special mention for her attention to detail and commitment to the success of our stay: emails to confirm our arrival details; arranging transport to and from Chichen-Itza, liaising with us by email and following up with our drivers to make sure they were on the ball; always engaged to make sure everything was going right. Graciela in Reception and Martin were also a pleasure to deal with.
The meals were excellent. Breakfast is included - any dish from the entire menu. Lunch for us was a generous bowl of guacamole and happy hour margaritas on the beach. Dinner on the veranda was a treat. We ate out a couple of times at highly rated restaurants, but really we needn't have bothered, as the food was better (and less expensive) in the hotel, served by Desiderio, Eusebio, Hervin, Jose and Ulices. The urn of drinking water to top up our bottles was a thoughtful touch.
Our ground floor room, No 5, was comfortable and quite spacious, right on the beach, cleaned impeccably each morning by Blanca, with fresh towels and toiletries.
Relaxed, intimate, well run and a stunning setting: this place has got everything right.

This hotel was fantastic! We booked through hotels.com for $142 a night, but after contacting the hotel directly they rebooked us for only $102 a night! They guarantee the best rate if you book through them so just go directly to them. For that price this hotel is beyond worth it!

Pros: Our room had an incredible ocean view, right on a beautiful private beach (only shared with the boutique hotel next door), the staff was extremely friendly, free breakfast was the entire breakfast menu (not the typical lame continental at most hotels) and delicious, 2 for 1 happy hour drinks were great, and the AC worked smoothly. Location is also nice, walking distance to a couple bars/restaurant. There’s also security during the night which was comforting since the hotel is close to the road (noise was not an issue though). Free parking is directly across the street and the lot is large!

Cons: beds/pillows are not the comfiest so I would recommend bringing your own pillow. Some small bugs can get in the room because you’re right on the beach but housekeeping did a great job cleaning out the rooms each morning (this should be expected anywhere in tulum). Deadbolt lock doesn’t work but there is security at the front, and I truly never felt unsafe for a second.

If you’re trying to stay on the beach in Tulum on a budget, this is the place to be! 10/10 would recommend and will be back for sure!

My husband and I stayed at Piedra Escondida (PE) for two weeks this late spring/early summer. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation! Great features of this charming resort are the wonderful and attentive staff, the restaurant on the property, the charming rooms right on the ocean with hammocks, and the proximity to all necessities. All within 30 seconds to two minute's walk are two convenience stores, multiple restaurants, both chic and souvenir shopping, bike rental, covid testing, currency exchange, ice cream, a pharmacy, and free parking for your car right across the street from the resort. My husband and I were looking for a relaxing vacation and having everything so close made our trip pleasant and stress-free. PE has a lovely beach that is well maintained that is private. Be aware that there may or may not be sargassum piling up on the beach, but also know that the PE staff were there each day addressing the issue. Also, know that if PE has sargassum, then likely so do all of the other beaches in the area. While we were at PE we sometimes had the beach to ourselves and sometimes shared it with several other people. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation without crowds on the beach or a lot of noise, Piedra Escondida is perfect for you. You may have the beach nearly entirely to yourself some days. It's lovely. If you are looking for a big party beach, you can take your rented bike and ride it to any number of other resorts or beaches that are a short bike ride away. We felt the location of Piedra Escondida was really nice because we were able to ride to the busy and louder beaches during the day while returning to our cozy, quiet beach at night. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our room that faced the beach on the lower level. It had a big patio that was all ours. It was perfect. We felt the price for our lovely room right on the beach was very reasonable. The wifi was pretty reliable with just occasional spottiness, but we were in the room furthest away from the router. I suspect the wifi in the other rooms worked perfectly well. The air conditioning was cold and available 24/7. The property was very well maintained, had cute gardens, and a nice place to lock rented bikes. We felt safe at all times at PE. We really enjoyed the breakfast that was included in our stay and the fact that we could eat onsite within steps from our room. I should also say that though the staff was very friendly and helpful at all times, they also gave you your space and seemed to know when we wanted to be alone. They were all simply fantastic. If you are looking for a peaceful, charming vacation experience, we highly recommend Piedra Escondida. We expect to be returning sometime in the future because we had such a great vacation.

We enjoyed our day stay at Piedra Esconda. All rooms are directly on the beach. Our comfortable room on the second floor had fantastic views and two balconies. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious, breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails on the beach. The restaurant is open to the lovely beach. We never ate a meal inside! We enjoyed our meals there more than in the other, more acclaimed restaurants in the area. The food was fresher, better prepared and the atmosphere was much pleasanter and laid back. There's a good ice cream shop directly across the street, which is very convenient. The beach is private, not crowded or noisy like others in the area and is a great place to relax. And, if you are driving, there is convenient parking just across the street.

Couples retreat for sure! Just off very busy and fun beach street and walking distance to all restaurants, bars, shops, diving shop, convenient store, pharmacy, etc. Currency exchange is just next door!
Included, "on menu" breakfast with fresh squeeze juice (everyday was different and exciting). We are vegetarian and the house Chief made us special lunch box every day for our diving adventures!
Really don't have to go anywhere if you want to chill, house bar and restaurant is always open and amazing foods and drinks.
Serves you on beach, in your room, or at main house.
People are so nice and kind, made us feel at home every time come back from day of fun in sun.
Not just this hotel, everywhere in Tulum, when you go toilet, you cannot flush paper!! (Even for poop..., put the used paper in basket, and it is not rude to do so. you will see sign at every toilet. (We brought portable "toto washlet".) It is a must for their environment, you will get used to it)
We rented a car, and they have private parking, so it was so easy. To town, only takes about 15 min. Traffic in front of the hotel gets bit crazy on weekends and dinner time, but just few yards, its not like NYC. No problem.

We just returned from a 4. Night stay at Piedra Escondida. We stayed in room A Superior room 4. We really enjoyed the hotel, our room and the restaurant was great! Wonderful fresh food every day. All of the staff were so helpful and attentive. Grace was amazing in helping us plan out our day, renting a car etc. The waitstaff in the restaurant were great and being there are only 9 rooms they remember you and what you like. It was like visiting family.
Enjoyed thoroughly and loved the boho chic feel of Tulum. We love how Piedra Escondida has kept true to the less modern eco friendly roots of Tulum. In addition, we actually loved where this hotel was located in the hotel beach zone. It was less congested feeling and there were great things close by you could walk to... Gelato, some shops and a great pizza and Italian food restaurant (Boccanera)
We will be back!

We were looking for the old Tulum, pre celebrity, pre PartyCentral. And we found it here! Built 30 years ago, and immaculately maintained, this 9 room hotel faces the Caribbean. This location, on a private cove beach, consistently brought us the sound of the surf and a 5-10 mph mild breeze.

Choose #4, second floor, with two balconies and complete privacy. Spectacular views! 20-30 steps away on a white sugary beach is the water. There are lounge chairs and permanent, straw umbrellas. Hard to leave!

Great shower with river rock floor. Hammock on one balcony. Terrific housekeeping. Only 1 mosquito bite on one of us over 6 nights!

On site restaurant offers all meals and drinks. Good choice of egg dishes for your included breakfast.

If you can bring yourself to leave, the town center, north end (ruins and hotels), south end (Hotel Zona) are about $15 usd taxi fare away.

Hope you enjoy as much as we did!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 7 nights during our vacation to Tulum. The hotel staff was excellent. It was our first time to get on a plane and our first vacation since the CoVid-19 pandemic.
Some of our friends stayed in some much pricier hotels just up the shore from us, and they didn’t get half the helpful service our hotel gave us. In particular, Nayeli, the hotel’s front desk attendant, was especially helpful to us. We were first saved from paying to much for taxi service. Then, she helped us book a group tour for eleven of us to Chichen Itza which included transportation, tour guides, lunch in Valladolid, and a trip to a cenote which I couldn’t have planned better even if I did have time to plan ahead and book a tour of Chichen Itza for all of us ahead of time. We also had help from Nayeli getting us a half day trip to Casa Tortuga, a popular cenote near Tulum. Both excursions were very reasonably priced and fun, and we felt safe.
Our room was kept clean and the air conditioner kept us cool at night while we slept. The restaurant staff service was excellent too, and the food was very good and reasonably priced.
I highly recommend this hotel. I don’t think one could find a more helpful hotel attendant than we had at Hotel Piedra Escondida.

No complaints here just relaxing all day and all night, eating and drinking all day and all night.

Now ive been to Tulum three times already, always at a different hotel. The breakfast was included, lots of places nearby to eat, its a very very small hotel and its on a small private beach that is beautiful. I will come back!
