We had a great stay at this boutique hotel with 11 rooms. What we liked: 1) Staff was outstanding: friendly and with great advice about the region. We had booked two rooms for our family and one of our rooms was upgraded to a full ocean front view. This was so amazing and appreciated. Thank you Arturo! 2) location: this hotel is North of Tulum center (a 10 minute drive up the highway towards Cancun). You will drive down a small dirt road off the highway and need to pass a gated checkpoint. Past the checkpoint, there are residences, villas, and a 2 small hotels as far as we could tell. It is very quiet compared to the Tulum Beach or Tulum Center. If you are looking for EDM beach parties, this is not the place. 3) setting: this hotel is right on the beach with a constant breeze so you are not uncomfortable. Beautiful views, beautiful big night skies, turquoise waters, quiet, kayak and paddle boards to get out to the reef. I recommend bringing water shoes as the shore is a bit rocky. The water was very warm when we were there in late March/early April (~27C/81F). There were zero mosquitos or flying insects when we were there. We snorkeled every day in front of the hotel. It was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of different kind of bright colored fishes and even got to swim with a stingray, which was such a cool experience. 4) food: we ate at the restaurant for breakfast twice and 3 times for dinner. They have a small menu and while the food is quite good, the sauces are a bit redundant between dishes so after eating there for dinner 3 nights in a row, we wanted another option on day 4.
Nearby activities: Casa Cenote is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. We didn't swim in this cenote due to the "docile" crocodile that swims in these waters, but we did hire owners to give us a boat ride to the reef for some snorkeling. You can rent gear there too.
Safety: This hotel is in a gated community. There is a guard station to enter this section of the road alongside the ocean.
Noteworthy details: At the guard gate to enter this community, there is a taxi stand with available taxis. We didn't need it, but it's walking distance to the hotel if you decide not to rent a car.

Choice was no longer appropriate in having given free will to the positive sensations that the place already conveyed during the booking. When we arrived at the hotel we said to ourselves, perfect! When we entered the room we said to ourselves... Super perfect! Stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and salty breezes. No flat screens hanging or standing... Just relaxing without the temptations of home with series or news. Breakfast, lunch and dinner of your choice, nothing pre-booked, everything à la carte, all excellently prepared, with the freedom of a snack on the beach, pampered by the precise service of the staff, without intrusiveness. A holiday dedicated to the complete enjoyment of idleness. If we were to return this is where we would stay. Thanks to all the staff, especially Armin. HI.

Since before arriving at the hotel, we were already excellently treated by Arturo. We contacted him by ws and he always kept an eye on our arrival and during our stay. We must say that the place is really beautiful, the beach clean and the water so nice, the pier, the pelicans, the landscape... it is amazing. As for the Hotel it is perfect: very clean, comfortable and cozy rooms (Arturo placed us in a room with an incredible sea view, thank you!), rests so well away from the noise of the "other Tulum". The food is exceptional, the chef very professional and his dishes, both breakfast, lunch and dinner, a show: the tacos, the guacamole and a few milleajas de papas... tremendous!!!. Diana’s drinks are great: don’t miss the lemon Daiquiri and Mojito. Armín, so cool, always willing in every way and advising us on what to do and how to move. Javi, a love, helpful and very warm. All excellent staff. We were delighted and thought to come back again. We thank all the guys for the service, the disposition, the energy, the food, the drinks, the human warmth that accompanies a charming landscape. Thank you Arthur for everything! Honey. This is a hotel that really feels like home. It is located at one of the wonderful beaches of the Riviera Maya, with white sand, palm trees and everything you wish from paradise. There's also a pool for a nice dive into not-salty water. The hotel offers reclining chairs with sunshades. There are also kayaks for exploring the sea. If you're lucky, you can even see turtles. There's also a cenote nearby which has cool clear water.
But it's not only this. The staff are the nicest people in the world and really make your stay a special time. This was especially nice for the kids, who felt very welcomed. On top of this, the restaurant serves amazing food.
The rooms are cozy and equipped with both AC and ventilation, and the beds are very comfortable. The rooms do not have a TV, which in my opinion is a good thing - who needs a TV when you can watch the Caribbean Sea?

The stay at Casa Altamar was a special experience. The rooms are stylish and simply furnished. There are beach towels and a beach bag. The air conditioning works very well. But it is even nicer to sleep with the windows open with the sound of the sea and the fresh sea air. There are very good mosquito nets in front of the windows and doors. The food in the hotel's restaurant is extremely good and should be emphasised: It is a cuisine that draws inspiration from local Mayan influences, such as the spicy chilli mole, and seeks new combinations, surprising guests' palates. The staff give very professional advice on the choice of dishes. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and always available for an interesting chat. Before our departure we were asked which flight we had, the status of the flight was checked by the hotel staff and taxi transport to the airport was organised for us. My children felt very welcome and they also felt that they could always ask anything. We were given good tips on what we could do in the neighbourhood. For example, we learned about a cenote in the immediate neighbourhood where you can swim, snorkel and dive. There were also underground freshwater rivers at various points on the beach that flow into the sea and where snorkelling is particularly beautiful. The beach was always clean, which should be emphasised.

If you're reading this review, you have come to the right place! This place is magical! Coming from NYC it was the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle. The rooms are clean, with good a/c and wifi. The staff is incredibly warm and accommodating, making us to-go meals before heading out for the day. The food at the restaurant is excellent, missing the churros as we speak (expect NYC prices). The ocean water felt like a warm bath. The ocean floor is a bit rocky so bring water shoes. The pool is on the smaller side, but you have the ocean at your fingertips. We felt lucky to have found this gem of a hotel!

Casa Altamar was so great on so many levels, I don't even know where to start. We arrived late for our first night and the staff was waiting for us and had prepared a meal in case we were hungry. The room was perfect: hot water, working AC, clean sheets and amazing shower + products. The food there was constantly great. My friend travelling with me has many food allergies and they went the extra mile to account for it. The staff made us feel at home from the very beginning. They were so kind and always offered the best service and advice. The beach had constantly azure water. They let you borrow gear (shoes, kayak, surfboards, paddleboards) so you can go out and enjoy the pretty water. The little wooden deck also allows you to go swim without having to worry about the seaweed. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, if you're thinking about booking nights at this hotel, just do it. You'll have an amazing time. Note that the hotel is about 10min by car away from Tulum and is in a very quiet and peaceful setting. Team Altamar, Thanks for everything:) Louis & Mans

Loved this hotel and all the more so as we came here in an emergency after having checked out of a really dodgy rental in Tulum pueblo. Everything about it was fabulous. Lovely room with a great shower and view of the pool and the beach where we watched the sunrise every day. Also some really lovely bird life all around if you like spotting local Fauna. Excellent staff in bar/restaurant - special mention to Gloria who was awesome. Restaurant food was very high quality if perhaps a bit on the pricey side. The mahi mahi was superb as was the guacamole (had it every night) and the ceviche. There are a number of small hotels along the beach from Casa Altamar where you can go for a drink or a meal of you fancy a change of scene. It’s also only a ten minute drive from the Tulum Mayan ruins and close to a number of cenotes. Overall a great place to kick back and chill. Loved it! ¡Muchas gracias a tod@s!

A wonderful boutique hotel in Tulum. We recommend room nr. 6 with it’s amazing view to the caribbean sea! We enjoyed the continental breakfast which consisted of lots of fruit, home made granola and fresh bread. We stayed a whole week and enjoyed lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurant. Especially the Churros where to die for! The beach is very secluded and water sport equipment is provided without any extra charge.
The only thing we didn’t appreciate was, that the service was not included in the meal prices. Mexico is starting with the same bad habit as in the US.

I have just returned from one the best vacations I have ever experienced on a beach (and.i have been going to beaches for over 50 years). About 11 miles north of Tulum, Mexico, is a lovely little bay with private residences and small boutique hotels lining the beach. There is a barrier reef probably about 1/4 mile from the beach, which keeps the surf calm, even on windy days. The water is crystal clear with a lot of coral heads and sea creatures to view if you want to snorkel out a bit.
Casa Altamar is one of the small boutique hotels on this beach, with a pier reaching out about 100 yards toward the reef. The hotel has a total of five rooms which have all been recently updated and all have a view of the beach and the infinity pool. The rooms are all well appointed with all you need for a lovely beach vacation. They even provide beach towels with Velcro pockets, and beach bags to take out onto the beach. The rooms are all on the same level as the beach. There is also an entrance to the hotel and dive shop on the ground floor. There is a gazebo on the beach with hammocks for a lazy day in the sea breeze, and more than enough cushioned beach lounge chairs to accommodate a fully booked hotel. There are kayaks, paddle boards, water shoes, etc. for your use while you are there.
The second floor consists of one of the best restaurants I have ever experienced, with indoor and outdoor seating. Of course there are gorgeous views of the beach from every seat. The servers were all incredibly attentive, and every dish I ordered was perfectly prepared and presented so beautifully, it was difficult to cut into. The chef is incredible, and even the scrambled eggs were the best I have ever had.
I did not have the opportunity to dive on the reef, but I am so looking forward to going back so I can spend more time in the water and explore more of the Caribbean Sea life.
If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing vacation, I definitely recommend Casa Altamar! There is nothing negative I can say about this lovely boutique hote.
