Casa Altamar was so great on so many levels, I don't even know where to start. We arrived late for our first night and the staff was waiting for us and had prepared a meal in case we were hungry. The room was perfect: hot water, working AC, clean sheets and amazing shower + products. The food there was constantly great. My friend travelling with me has many food allergies and they went the extra mile to account for it. The staff made us feel at home from the very beginning. They were so kind and always offered the best service and advice. The beach had constantly azure water. They let you borrow gear (shoes, kayak, surfboards, paddleboards) so you can go out and enjoy the pretty water. The little wooden deck also allows you to go swim without having to worry about the seaweed. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, if you're thinking about booking nights at this hotel, just do it. You'll have an amazing time. Note that the hotel is about 10min by car away from Tulum and is in a very quiet and peaceful setting. Team Altamar, Thanks for everything:) Louis & Mans

We had such and amazing time in May 2019 we decided to go back post 2020 last week. I don't know how it was possible but this trip was even better. Small boutique hotel has added another 6 rooms to its existing 5. The staff makes you feel like family and the food was even more outstanding this year so much so that we ate almost every meal either in the dining room or at the pool or on the beach. Highly, highly reccomend.

It's the best hotel I ever stayed at in Tulum area. I loved EVERYTHING about it! We felt like HOME. The staff members knew our names, very super attentive and genially kind and caring. You just cannot fake it. The room was perfectly clean, beds are super comfy. The area is very quiet and safe. Staying at a beachfront hotel is one of the best decisions when planning your Tulum trip - completely different vibe and experience. The hotel restaurant deserves a separate review! Sooooo delicious. Honestly, the best food I had in Tulum and the prices are very reasonable! We mostly ate at the hotel restaurant. The restaurant terrace view is so amazing, I still remember it, and these memories make me smile. The provide beach towels, beach shoes, paddle boards and kayaks free of charge. There's parking too.

Casa Altamar has a mini pier at the beach in front of the hotel, approximately 20-30m into the see. When the sun is out and the water is clear, you can see the bottom and know it's too shallow to dive. However, on a cloudy day, it appears deep enough to dive into. On my very first day in Tulum with my fiancé, we came to the beach after having breakfast and I jumped into the water. Hitting my head straight into a rock, which almost killed me. The hotel called an ambulance and I was taken to Tulum Hospital where I got an X-ray and 15 stitches all over my face. The doctor released me with a few pill prescriptions and told me I should see a specialist. The hotel told me they agreed a warning sign was necessary, and on the day after the accident they hanged a signed there. They told me they would cover all expenses, book the medical appointments, and that I didn't need to worry about anything, as I could stay with them for a few days for free while they took care of everything. I was told by my family doctor that I needed to get an MRI exam, so I told the hotel and they said they would schedule one for Tuesday, February 16th in Playa del Carmen. They said they'd drive me there and pay for the exam, but when the time came to leave for the exam, the hotel manager told me it was no longer his responsibility to pay for anything, and that he had helped enough. We drove to Playa del Carmen by ourselves and paid for the procedure, which showed a rather big fracture on my skull, in the forehead above the right eye. They told me I need to see a specialist in plastic surgery who will be able to assess if I'm fit for flying back to Brazil where I live, or if I need to stay longer in Mexico and undergo surgery here. This whole problem which could've cost me my life would have been avoided had the hotel have a proper warning sign around the deck. Now that the damage is done, they should at least take on their responsibility and make sure that I am given the necessary medical advice and exams so I can safely return to my country or be treated appropriately in Mexico. The hotel's change of posture from one day to another has left me unattended in a foreign country, without health insurance, without any guidance as to what I need to do. They claim they have done all they could, and can't be liable for any costs of additional medical treatment. I am sure this is not a very responsible way to deal with a delicate situation that involves someone's health.
