Liked their place, clean and quiet, everything within a short distance. Teams are very helpful and friendly. The Waterfront is gorgeous, private one, right at the rear entrance. Food is incredible, I’m planning to come here every time I go to Mexico.

The staff here are very polite and helpful. The room was spotless. The whole hotel is beautiful and right on the beach. Not far from the Tulum Ruins, Cenotes, and the Hotel Zone. I will definitely stay here again.

Writing this review with the aim of helping other travelers rather than looking to tear down this property, despite my keen disappointment with nearly every aspect of the stay. Ultimately. this hotel sells itself as a nicer class of establishment than it actually is. I was looking for a cheaper option for a quick trip to Tulum after the holiday - I expected it to be more boutique / to have fewer amenities than more expensive places, but for ~ 500 USD a night I did make some basic assumptions (proven to be rash!). The (few) good things: -Right on the beach (albeit a small, rocky, seaweed-strewn one) -Restaurant does exceedingly simple and yet, quite tasty and cheap meals. It was what I was hoping the rest of the experience would be like .. quaint, inexpensive and enjoyable What was bad: -We arrived late due to a delayed flight (about 10 PM). The only person there to greet us was a security guard who thrust the keys at us and pointed us at our door. Little did I know, the service was not going to improve :D -No phones in the room. If you want something, walk down to the concierge to ask for it -Hot water takes about ~10 minutes to get going. Tulum in December is cool at night .. be prepared to wait if you want a hot shower. -Hotel room was dated. Screen door falling off its track (barely closed anyway). Ants all over the place. -Staircase up to the rooms is a touch treacherous / broke down looking. I must congratulate Cielo Maya on their photography .. LOTS of retouching involved, must have cost them so much money they couldn't afford to paint anything. What was really bad: -Customer service. With the other obvious failings of the hotel, you would have thought people would have made an effort to win you over / form a warm connection. I have been to Mexico many times, to elite and not-so-elite places and I have uniformly been impressed with the service. Not so here. -One day, the water in the room suddenly dried up. We found out later that their potable water truck was late ... when I asked about when the water would return, the concierge told me "5 minutes" .. another half an hour later the pipes were still gurgling. A few hours later, the electricity went out .. I never got an explanation. -This team makes zero effort to improve your stay if things go less than swimmingly. In summary, if this hotel were a few hundred dollars a night, I would have nothing to complain about. It is a bit like staying in a cabin in the woods .. I just wish that more people would have noted this in their reviews to warn unsuspecting travelers like myself. If you want to essentially camp by the beach with zero customer service, this could be an enjoyable stay. If you are looking for a curated, boutique, (even semi-luxurious) experience, look elsewhere.

Cielo Maya absolutely made our entire trip to Tulum!! It was a beautiful, relaxing, and welcoming hotel with stunning room views. The sunrise was unforgettable. Complementary breakfast in the morning which was great and the restaurant is MUCH cheaper than anywhere on the strip! Karla Hernandez (receptionist) was beyond wonderful and accommodating. The entire staff was helpful and flexible with all the date changes we had to make. They have a security guard at the front during after hours which was really comforting when we would taxi back to the hotel. The beach feels private and compared to the other beaches we went to in Tulum, it was by far my favorite. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from a beautiful Cenote and next door to a little grocery store where you can buy snacks. If I were to recommend any hotel in Tulum it would without doubt be the Cielo maya!! It made our entire trip. Muchas Gracias por todo, Cielo Maya!! -Janey & John
