Hi, First off good choice on Platinum. As I have said before I probably wouldn't return to this resort without it. I found the perks were great in Platinum but with that being said, it all depends if you feel the extra money is worth it. I liked the small private pool [some called it boring ]. Also the private roped off section of the beach with waitress service. The bar in Platinum building lobby was nice and the shuttle down both sides of the resort runs from the main lobby to Platinum. I think the thing that we liked best was Platinum buildings were the ones closet to the beach. Outside each of the Platinum lobbies there are buffets which are a stones throw away from your lobby door. Someone recently emailed me and I posted a couple of maps on trip advisor photo section for this resort that shows where rooms are, restaurant locations, and an aerial view so you can see where things are located. As far as room size there is little to no difference in relation to others. Can't help you much on excursions as I usually just hang out at the resort and maybe go into Playa Del Carmen for the day which the resort has a shuttle for 4 dollars each way.
