My wife and I just returned from a lengthy stay at the princess resort. We paid for the Platinum upgrade. This resort promises to give a platinum experience and in reality it gives you a sub-par experience at best. The 1 star is for the room and beach or it would have been a Zero. If you think you’re getting something different than the average guest by purchasing the platinum package YOU ARE MISTAKEN. First they sell the platinum upgrade at the resort for 18 dollars a day WOW, that’s only 220$ less than I paid per person per day. When you arrive you’re told to book your reservation for the restaurants with the app, unfortunately they are all booked for the next 2 days, so buffet it is and that’s like being in an MMA fight. The food at the restaurants are good for resort food if you remember to book it early in the morning or you’ll have to eat at 8:45 or later. If you like to get up at 5:30 in the morning to get a seat on the beach, this is your place. If you like fighting in line for drinks food rides to the lobby, this is your place. I will never recommend or stay at this resort again which is unfortunate because some of the staff were amazing. If you try to complain to a manager about the issue, they don’t have one or they say they’re the manager but in reality you get someone with zero ability to do anything about the issue…. The photo below shows the difference in regular room price and platinum.. this is not worth it.

We have enjoyed many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and this ranks as one of the worst. I do extensive research to find a great resort with a reasonable price. This place seemed to fit the bill although their trip advisor reviews are all over the place. The hotel is gigantic with a 1990s look, and not in a good way. Many fountains were not working, tons of concrete, brown water in the fountain areas and the place's feel was rundown. Our room was very dated and there was major upkeep and cleaning that was needed, especially on the outdoor balcony area. We liked the strong AC and the bed was comfortable. The monkeys and deer are cute. The coaties are aggressive and will steal food. It is a huge walk from hotel rooms to the beach. The beach itself is OK but crowded and the jet skis were super loud and smelly. Thankfully the food was pretty good. Lots of choices at the buffet and enjoyed the Sports bar for drinks and food. A huge problem is no availability for the ala carte restaurants. We were there for 3 nights and only 1 night was available for an ala carte place (unless you paid $100 for a bottle of wine...and then they would fit you in!) We had no luck approaching the ala carte restaurants for any cancellations or openings when we stopped by to ask. Service was good and we left a tip at every meal or drink. Definitely will not return, Iberostar and Barcelo chains are a much more enjoyable vacation and they are reasonably priced.

Had an amazing time. Only thing the wifi isn’t the best. In some areas you connect very well but most times connecting to the wifi was difficult. The entertainment was fun and amazing! Special shout out to TonyFlow who always ensured guests were engaged and having fun with the activities Food was pretty good! The bars at the beach and the pool had long lines. The lobby bar was probably one of my favourites. Special shout out to Sebastian! You will definitely see lots of wild life which is amazing. This resort is huge so be ready to walk ! Overall we had fun! The resort has a lot of activities for kids. For adults they have activities such as rifle shooting and archery!

On the last night of a one week, family trip to Princess Riviera. I will try to give the most honest feedback I can. Overall, this resort is average, nothing more, nothing less. Everything is on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the best. Room- 7- we got very lucky and were upgraded to a suite. The room featured two bathrooms, an oversized master suite with a jacuzzi tub, a living room, kitchen and an enormous patio with a hot tub and ocean view. The room was nice. We were told that normally, it would run $10k Mexican a night. At that rate, it would have been disappointing. We did take advantage of the patio and having the extra space was nice. The rest of our party were in standard rooms with views that weren’t great. Resort- 4- the resort itself is massive. The main lobby is fairly standard but a lot of the store/restaurant fronts are empty which gives the place a bad vibe. The resort itself is massive! From our room, in the Platinum club, you could either walk about a half mile or take a tram to get to the sit down restaurants and buffets. The grounds are nicely landscaped but the resort is poorly laid out and the signage is terrible if existant at all. On a positive note, saw deer, iguanas, coatis, spider monkeys and even a javalina! Beach- 2- I’ve been to multiple resorts in Mexico and Caribbean. This was probably the worst beach I’ve been to. The beach is very cramped, chairs are at a premium (people were getting to the beach at 7 am to save seats), and the layout is just terrible. The water is, of course, very pretty but while the water is clear 50-100 yards out, there are rocks every foot or so. It’s not only uncomfortable, it’s dangerous. We only went to the beach 2 of our 6 days there because it was just such a hassle. Biggest disappointment of our trip. Food- 4- we ate at the buffets, snack bars, room service and the hibachi, French and Mexican restaurants. The food just isn’t good. Again, I never expect a ton at these places but this was bad even by all inclusive standards. They would be well served by cutting all their menus by 2/3rd and just focusing on making good food. Staff- 10- some of the nicest and most attentive I’ve ever encountered. Everyone seemed so eager to help and when tipped, were effusive with their gratitude. Pools- 5- they were ok. Nothing bad, nothing great. Swim up bars were ok, very standard for this type of resort Overall, for the money, there are far better options in my opinion.

General The hotel is great, especially for younger people. There is also a family area. The hotel performs excellently in this price range. We would come back. Location & surroundings The beach was one of the best in Playa del Carmen. Not much seaweed as the hotel staff made an effort to remove it every morning. The hotel shuttle ($4 p.p. each way) took us to the city center within 15 minutes. Central location for excursions. Room We had a deluxe junior suite with jacuzzi. Very large and always clean room. The balcony was huge, the minibar (free of charge) was refilled every day. Safe also free of charge. Service We were mostly ignored in the buffet restaurant, unlike some other guests. When the hairdryer in the room was broken and I asked twice that it could be replaced, someone was in the room but it was not replaced. The battery in our door lock was flat and we could not get into our room. The cleaner apperently didn't report this in the morning and we stood in front of a locked door for 1.5 hours in the afternoon until someone responded after asking several times. Gastronomy Large selection in the buffet restaurant, mostly good quality and delicious taste. Unfortunately the food was mostly not so warm... The restaurant was very full and noisy. Sometimes it was difficult to get a table for 2 people. The italian a la carte restaurant performed really well. We did not use the other restaurants. Sport & entertainment Many pools and not too cold. The resort is super large, green and well-kept. There is a large animal world to marvel at (monkeys, coatis, iguanas, salamanders, agoutis, deer, cats). There was plenty of entertainment on offer. Rather unsuitable for people who don't like loud music. However, there are also quieter pool areas. The beach is fine sandy, wide and super beautiful.

We expected a lot more from this resort… Drain flies coming out of our sinks and bathtub, our shower leaks all over the floor everytime it’s used, there’s black mold around the cracked bathtub seal, toilet seat is too small for the toilet, restaurants that were supposed to be included in our booking are not available or we cannot access them. The wifi is unreliable or unavailable unless you pay per day for it…that’s a pretty basic amenity to provide and they don’t without the extra cost. I got food poisoning from eating at their poolside taco stand, threw up every 20 minutes for 8 hours straight and lost 2.5 days of our trip recovering in bed, unable to eat and could hardly drink. Because my stomach was so sensitive we bought Evian water from one of the resort shops and they were charging an obscene amount of money for them. For 2 bottles of water and 1 electrolyte drink it was $65 USD!! I am not the only one who has had food poisoning here either, just happened to talk to another couple and they had the exact same experience from eating tacos. Talked to several other people as well who witnessed cross contamination with raw chicken going on at the taco stand. No idea if anything was done about it, I reported everything and spoke with 3 different resort managers who came to my room, I filled out their paperwork so they could investigate but haven’t heard anything from them since. Zero compensation offered from management, aside from bringing me soft foods that I couldn’t even eat at the time it was offered, and seemed like all they were really concerned with was confirming that I was actually sick. The food in general is sub par. The only “good” restaurant is Mama Mia’s. Ive never seen lines so long at a resort to get food and drinks, and it doesn’t matter where you are trying to get served at the resort. There is a line everyday. The line to get drinks at the beach is crazy, sometimes 30 people lined up waiting. Every bar is understaffed and no one seems very motivated to do their job, even when they receive tips. I wouldn’t want to work in understaffed conditions either, that is very hard. Our whole experience here has completely turned us off all inclusive resorts. Next vacation we would book an air bnb or a hotel where you just pay to eat at local restaurants… instead of over-paying for cheap food and watered down drinks. The first drink I ordered when we arrived was a margarita…it tasted like tequila blended up with too much ice with a hint of lime. Unfortunately that was not a one off, the drinks are all terrible so we drank canned beer and wine mostly (things that can’t be watered down). Very disappointing. At least the weather has been good, sand and beach were nice and the ocean was perfect for kids to swim in.

The beach is beautiful as are the grounds. Our hotel room was in a great location and the beds were comfy. We bought the Platinum package and expected a Platinum experience; but the hotel needs to do a better job with their Platinum guests. There were non-platinum guests utilizing the exclusive beach and the exclusive buffet which we felt was unfair as we had paid for this experience while they had not. Often we were unable to find a seat in our “areas”, and had to wait in extra long lines because they were filled with non-platinum guests. When we mentioned it to the staff some did their best to remove them, some didn’t but the sheer volume of people and language barriers did have an impact on what they were able to do. Overall, we had a lovely vacation, but will look for a different place to stay next year.

Booked a 9 day stay, by day 4 our kids were in the HOSPITAL on a drip with bacterial stomach infections (the exact bacteria was not disclosed to us). We did not eat off the resort or do any excursions by this point. Ran into other families from our resort at the hospital with sick children, having the same symptoms as ours. Word got around that there were other sick children from the princess spa and suites and hospital staff made a comment 'what is going on with the princess' (in reference to the resort). We kept in contact with another family we met at the Mexican hospital, whom decided to fly their sick child straight back to the Vancouver Children's Hospital, where it was confirmed their child had SALMONELLA POISONING. The hotel had us fill out a chart of what the children ate and on what days. We have travelled all over the world and never experienced anything like this before. Therefore, we cannot recommend this resort as it endangered our children's health and we spent the main part of our trip in the hospital and then the rest trying to recover before flying home.

A big big for us, the walk to the beach is too long. We also prefer outdoor dining rooms. However for most this is a very good resort, lots of food outlets and entertainment. The wildlife is great monkeys, raccoons, iguana, aguti, deer etc. We went to town and it was very tourist oriented, I called it the Niagara Falls of Mexico. There is a restaurant called El Fogon, the best food I have ever tasted period. As always Mexico is an amazing place to visit. The hotel is clean, up to date and a nice spot for those looking for a large resort.
