Rosewood Mayakoba is celebrated for its stunning suites and commitment to eco-friendliness, though its dining offerings have met with mixed opinions. Guests often laud the spacious and luxurious rooms, despite some appearing slightly dated. The service at this hotel typically receives high marks for being attentive and personalized, but a handful of guests have encountered slower service.
While many find the cost of food and services steep, the extensive amenities, which include beachside refreshment services and diverse transport options, are often seen as justifying the expense. The hotel's cleanliness is consistently commended, with outstanding housekeeping and pristine grounds.

Hotel's Favorite
Absolutely incredible! My husband and I, along with our 11 month old son (his first international trip!), just got back from a 5 night stay at Rosewood Mayakoba in the beachside lagoon view suite (508). We were blown away, not only by the beauty of the resort and the suite itself, but by the genuine kindness of each and every staff member. The attention to detail was top notch.
We stayed here because we kept hearing wonderful things about how family friendly it was - and that's absolutely true!
The entire staff made us feel so warm and welcome. Every single person is willing to help you and go above and beyond to make sure your stay is nothing short of perfect. And they always remembered my son's name everywhere we went, which I thought was so special and sweet! Special shoutout to our butler, Denisse, our server at Aqui Me Quedo, Fabio, our boat driver, Pedro, and Miguel at Casa del Lago! He always had a smile on his face. Also - we cannot thank our babysitter, Gizelle, enough for watching our son for two nights so my husband and I could have a date night! She had the most kind and calming presence and I instantly felt comfortable leaving my baby in her hands.
One major aspect l appreciated was the separation of adults only/families for the pool and breakfast dining. It wasn't that long ago that my husband and I were that kid-free couple on vacation - so I think it's great that Rosewood gives adults their own space. Plus, as a mom, I feel more comfortable (and not as guilty) if my child has a meltdown at the table, since we're surrounded by other families and children.
The housekeeping team was absolutely incredible. They came twice a day, for a daily clean and then a turndown service, and they didn't miss a single thing. Completely above and beyond, and it showed.
The food was some of the best l've had at a resort destination. They did a great job of featuring authentic Mexican cuisine but also adding a twist (for example, Agave Azule was Mexican with an Asian flare). That was definitely our favorite restaurant. Overall - we 100% recommend and will

We visited the Rosewood Mayakoba in late February, 2020, for one week for an early 45th wedding anniversary celebration. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen a very beautiful and special resort. They absolutely cannot do enough for you and having your own butler is a wonderful perk. The staff was always making sure we had what we needed, from making dinner reservations to making sure we had our favorite spot on the beach and everything in between, and their kindness and friendliness was so appreciated. We happened to be staying there during a large wedding but because of the excellent management, you would not even know that a wedding party of approximately 200 people were at the resort and never did we feel inconvenienced or ignored. In fact, one morning (and only one morning), it was rather crowded for breakfast so we had to move to an outdoor area opposite the regular breakfast area and we did not even have to ask for an umbrella to be brought to us for shade. They just anticipate everything and the service they provide is amazing.
I have to say that we loved everything about staying here. The bikes that they provide you with are great fun and we took a wonderful ride on the nature trail that runs through the property.
Our room was fabulous, a deluxe over the water lagoon suite, with a beautiful view where we could watch the many different species of wildlife and birds, many of which we would find laying on our dock in the morning when we woke up. Our room was so spacious, with a great outdoor shower area and between the relaxing plunge pool and comfortable and spotless outdoor furniture, you wouldn't even need to leave your room but don't miss the gorgeous beach and various pool areas, especially the quiet and relaxing adult area. We also loved the fact that you never had to worry about getting up early to get a lounge chair and they spread out the chairs or cabanas so you have more privacy. Loved that feature.
The restaurants are also great and it is nice to have options. Plus, they are very accommodating and will make things to your specifications. We especially loved Casa del Lago and Punta Bonita and also enjoyed the special dinners that they do on the beach.
The Spa- we only used the workout area once but it was well equipped and when we were taken on a tour, we would have loved to have had more time to enjoy the other amenities offered.
But you cannot have a great resort without a great staff and that is what really shines here. A special shout out to Esau, a resort concierge, who I communicated with before we even arrived at the resort; Eric, Antonio and Andreas at the restaurants; Marco, Arturo, Alejandro and Diego at the beach, all the housekeeping staff and our butlers, Carolina and Amy. Thank you for everything you did for us. We cannot wait to come back and see everyone. You are all the best!

This was what my 25 year old son said on our last night at Rosewood Mayakoba. He wasn’t talking about other guests we met but the unbelievable staff and management that made every single day of this 6 night trip perfect. From the awesome guys who drove the golf carts, to the wait staff in the restaurants and on the beach, to the fantastic butlers who responded within seconds to any request we put on the app, to the exceptional management.
This is such a great place.
Our fifth Rosewood, we had been to Mayakoba about 8 years ago and stayed at the Banyan tree. Since then Rosewoods have become our favorite hotel group. Seeing that they were open with reduced capacity and we could fly there from the USA we opted for this resort and it was the best thing we have decided all year.
Two parents and two twenty something kids we have been locked down for four months. We all needed a break.
All I can say is our beachfront room was fantastic. The whole family had our own part of the beach with our own plunge pool and cabana.
Any concerns about hygiene and protection against covid disappeared at the airport from the bags being cleaned before going into the suv. Everyone wore masks. The room was deep cleaned every day.
The food was exceptional. The beach grill was a lovely evening with a band and great food.
We will miss this place but definitely return.

The resort grounds of Rosewood are absolutely beautiful and sprawl luxuriously over a magical (albeit buggy AF) lagoon.
My fiancé and I stayed in one of the Wellness Suites which was basically duplex luxury apartment near the spa, overlooking the lagoon—which was a cool change up from an ocean view. We loved the chic, fresh feel of our accommodations and made use of the plunge pool, the lagoon dock and the wellness room (for private yoga practice and an outdoor shower). All around, it was a gorgeous suite.
Given the low hotel occupancy (due to covid) only two restaurants were open on site—but the traditional/Mexican food was exceptional. You can also visit the restaurants in the surrounding hotels if you’re over the Rosewood options.
Since the resort is so large, all guests are provided with bicycles for use during their stay. You can also call a buggy to pick you up and get you around (we did this mostly at night so that we didn’t have to bike whilst tipsy!)
They offer a “meh” app which you can Download upon arrival and use for basic information and for their butler service. The service is personalized and quite exceptional.
Now for a couple negatives: it’s pretty expensive. Not only the nightly rate, but everything else. Massages start around $375 USD and a margarita is $15 <<NYC prices in Mexico, yikes! We certainly racked up a decent bill by the end of our 4 days.
Additionally, the seaweed was pretty out of control this year. We had been in the aquamarine teal Cancun sea a couple weeks earlier (June) but The invasive seaweed had turned the Mayakoba sea a blackish blue. they also have these giant ugly inflatable floating buffers to keep the waves and seaweed at bay. I appreciate the intention but they were a total eyesore and kind of crushed the sea view.
The mosquitos also posed a bit of a problem for me. Bug. City. Make sure to load up on the complimentary bug spray they leave for you in the room.
Overall, Rosewood curated quite a dreamlike jungle and beach experience that we will not soon forget!

Dear 564haileyp, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us on TripAdvisor. We are delighted to hear that your trip was memorable and that you enjoyed our reimagined Wellness Suite, the Mexican cuisine and our service. Your feedback is also immensely helpful, and we look forward to improving upon each point. In fact, we are already in the process of making several updates to the Rosewood Mayakoba App and hope they address all concerns. While Sargasso continues to be an unpredictable natural phenomenon throughout the Caribbean, we will not let up in our efforts to keep it at bay and on off our shores on such days. Just as we will continue to manage coexisting with the unique and delicate ecosystems within the Resort. We remain dedicated to our commitment to service and look forward to working towards these improvements. We hope to welcome you back to the Riviera Maya for another dreamlike experience soon! Saludos,

Rosewood Mayakoba is a perfect resort! The service is absolutely phenomenal, particularly private butler service in the suites (thank you Ramon, Amy, and Ana). It sits on one of the prettiest white sand beaches we’ve ever enjoyed (and we have enjoyed many from Grace Bay in Turks & Caicos, to Ocean Club in Nassau Bahamas, to the Maldives, Santorini, Capri, San Tropez, Amalfi, Chable Maroma, Nomade in Tulum, Viceroy in Playa del Carmen, etc... - this is still the best beach we’ve visited). The resort itself is beautiful with a mid-century modern flair in a jungle and beach setting. There’s a lagoon winding through the property with bridges and wooded areas as well as a significant amount of beachfront. There are many pools on the property including Adults Only pool areas. The landscaping with jungle flowers is well kept and very pleasant.
There are several restaurants (Casa del Lago has a wonderful continental breakfast with many hot dish options; Agaves Azul is Asian influenced and has a delicious coconut broth seafood stew; Aqui mi Querdo has traditional Mexican grilled fish and meats as well as offering a fun beach party; Al Fresco has great octopus enchiladas and traditional dishes; the duck birria tacos at the adult pool served from a food truck are amazing and addictive; La Cieba offers a high end multiple course tasting menu with open bar that is fantastic). Staff here is also excellent- thank you Sergio who remembered not only our names and suite after serving us twice at breakfast but also knew our beverage selections and how we liked certain dishes.
The rooms/suites are large, well designed, in great condition, and very comfortable. If you can manage it, the beachfront suites are amazing with everything you need to enjoy Playa del Carmen’s best beach. They offer a nice dining room area; living room; bar with refrigerator and coffee maker; bedroom overlooking the ocean with king bed and night tables; very large bathroom with double vanity, closet, commode room, indoor shower, outdoor shower, and a huge bathtub for two; a very well appointed and large deck with outdoor dining, couch, bed, hot tub/plunge pool, and direct access to the beach. Outside the suite is a set of chaise lounges and chairs with umbrella that give you toes in the sand access.
The entire experience is everything you’d want in a resort. Rosewood Mayakoba may be the best Rosewood property there is; it is certainly the best resort in Quintano Roo; probably the best resort in Mexico; and possibly on the very short list for the World’s best resorts.

Overall the resort is a great property and we were extremely impressed by the check in experience and our initial reaction to the property. There are however some areas in dire need of improvement for it to be considered a true five star.
We stayed in the presidential beach front suite which is a wonderful villa and experience all around and if we were to return would likely only return to this villa or a beach front suite if without the children. It is rally great villa right on the beach with a very large pool and plenty of room in the house.
The lagoon and beach are great features that make this a unique property and a great experience, especially with the network of resorts and restaurants that are available during the stay.
The only downside for the property is the seaweed on the beach which was not present during the first few days of our stay but on day 7 and 8 was a significant issue do to the wind carrying plenty of seaweed onshore. This is no fault of the hotel and they do a great job at cleanup so it should not be a mark against the hotels whatsoever.
The fine dining all have excellent service and food and are without question five star level in experience and service. The breakfast restaurant however was some of the worst service I have experienced in any hotel of recent memory and that was despite the fact the breakfast was included as part of the room category. We stopped eating there after only two visits and could not believe it was part of the same hotel. The family pool and restaurant are also extremely dated and in need of a revamp, the service at the restaurant was just as bad if not worse than breakfast and it also felt like a completely different hotel. We only ate once and even our nanny commented on how bad the service was. The adults beach club was fine and we did not experience anywhere else that we are able to comment. We were not allowed in the spa and gym due to our medical condition and so cannot comment on those areas.
We found our butler to be somewhat overbearing and he even entered our home without invitation and without any prior notice. We value our privacy, especially while on vacation and informed him of such and to please notify us before entering the home and before assuming our needs without our first making a request. While he was very helpful in many other ways which we appreciated, he seemed to have trouble respecting our boundaries and reading our needs as clients which overall was a negative experience

In a typical year, both my husband and I spend about 150 nights a year in a hotel so when we aren’t traveling for business we like it to be top notch. Then COVID-we just wanted a quick trip this summer. This was our 15th trip to Cancun but our first visit to the Rosewood Mayakoba. I think our visit can be summed up by the fact that we got home two weeks ago and have already booked another trip next week to take our daughter back with us!
They’ve thought of EVERYTHING. The service is unparalleled. The boat ride to the villa is wonderful and we saw a baby crocodile. You are most definitely in the jungle and there are animals all around. Our room was fantastic and we really enjoyed having the plunge pool. Champagne o’clock and the falconry program on the beach are the touches that just make this place special.
We visited the Rosewood Baha Mar last year and the service there is no where near what you will experience at the Mayakoba. Can’t recommend the Mayakoba enough!

Dear KCHJDHarts, Thank you for your kind review. We understand how important your personal travel time is and are thrilled to know that we were able to provide that top-notch experience for you both! We are so excited to hear that you will be back with us soon and that you are bringing your daughter this time. It certainly will be a special trip with new and exciting things to enjoy! In fact, we would highly recommend that you, your husband and daughter arrange a private Ecotour by boat with your butler upon your return. The Riviera Maya is certainly a unique place and we are very lucky to have so much natural beauty, and wildlife, all around us here at Rosewood Mayakoba. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to better prepare for your upcoming stay with your daughter. We cannot wait to welcome back! Saludos

The property is generally overpriced. Rooms at Banyon Tree Hotel are much larger and better appointed while less expensive. Extremely poor service.
Food would typically arrive incorrectly. Repeatedly had to request no grasshoppers or pork after ordering and indicating food preferences when ordering any food.
We left our bikes at Banyon Tree and the staff indicated they would deliver the bikes to our room that afternoon. We never received the bikes. After calling a few times, we received replacement bikes in poor condition with scratched paint, one of which had no hand brakes (it simply didn't work) and the chain on the second one broke.
We requested a few extra chairs at the bar one evening from the manager, we never received the chairs and he simply left us.
Service at the beach was generally poor. The servers hardly ever came around.
I was allergic to the body cream and shampoo. When I called housekeeping to request hypoallergenic or baby shampoo, I had to wait hours for delivery. Each day, I had to call again and again to receive a single baby shampoo / body wash.
Breakfast buffet was extremely limited. Music at breakfast was repetitive (same selection over and over again) and did not reflect the class of hotel.
Generally speaking, having stayed at various other Rosewood hotels, this one did not reflect the quality of stay we expected or are accustomed to.

+1
I had been to Mayakoba on my honeymoon (the Banyan tree which is lovely but not great with kids) and wanted to return to the area. We had heard the Rosewood was beautiful but also great with kids while still being chic. My high expectations were beyond exceeded!
From the moment we arrived we were all treated impeccably. The attention to detail is second to none. You walk in your room and chips and fresh guac and mezcal await. A gift bag and personalized itinerary for my son. The entire staff knew him by name within the day. And that continued every moment of our stay- from thoughtfully cleaning our sunglasses and bringing by an extra cocktail to tracking down a beloved toy my son had lost... they will not let you have a moment of discomfort. I have stayed at many amazing hotels in the world but this is truly the gold standard for impeccable service. Actually my husband and I had a good laugh observing how intense the service is when we watched someone stand to put up their own umbrella at the pool. At least three staff members from all angles swarmed in like a SWAT team to help! A waiter looked genuinely upset when I strained to open my own bottle of ketchup.
Daniel, the manager, is evidence of what it means to be a true hospitality professional. He is flawless. You’ll find him delivering gin and tonics by the pool or greeting arriving guests with his dog Snoopy in tow. He will remember every detail of your stay.
If you’re on the fence about booking, don’t be. It was our first trip but certainly not our last. It’s worth every penny and then some.

We decided to take a break from the last 3 months of home quarantine and headed to the Rosewood Mayakoba. We were expecting them to have "things under control" and provide a safe experience - but our week there was so much better than we could have imagined. They have done months of training and every single one of their team members did an incredible job - from every single person wearing masks CORRECTLY, to disinfecting everything that was delivered to our room, to sticking to social distancing guidelines when it came to tables at restaurants (all outside) and beach chairs. Everything was excellent. Our week was a breath of fresh air after the last 3 months. We are already thinking about going back for another stay hopefully longer this time around. Thank you for providing such a memorable experience for our family.

Sorry, I just saw your question.
We took a limo organized by Mayakoba.
You will drive in style, beer and snacks on board🤓
We drove in January 1400 km on our own and felt save but Mexican drivers unfortunately are really careless and we would only drive ourselves!
I recommend booking transfer through hotel. You are greeted on existing airport and bypass the swarms of people and chaos of the airport
There is a good map of the property at Resortmaps.
If you use ATT you can contact them and add Mexico to your coverage during your trip. You might be able to do it online as well. I also have ATT and I did not have any coverage issues.
