Playa Palms was honestly a really disappointing stay and not what we expected at all. We expected there to be a beach for us to use when we booked this hotel, but the beach was a tiny patch of sand that led into rocks with boats docked a few yards out into the water. There was no way I would feel comfortable utilizing this beach for swimming. Playa Del Carmen was dealing with seaweed/sargassum issues, but in the main beach they clean it up and clear it out. Unfortunately they did not seem to do so at Playa Palms, so the whole main hotel area SMELLED so much as it is open on both ends. It was nauseating. The doors to the rooms are sliding glass doors, like the ones you might use to enter a yard. It made privacy and security feel a little lackluster. Furthermore, on our second night, we returned to our room to find our door UNLOCKED. The person cleaning our room inevitably had not locked the door after cleaning it (I always double check that doors are locked when leaving anywhere so no chance that it slipped our mind), which left me and my boyfriend feeling quite rattled. The hotel is open on both ends and the security is lackluster (there is a guard at night at the front who just asks your room number but several times coming in and out did not see him). This is a little bit of a nitpick, but I found the sheets to be pretty uncomfortable. After spending the day at the beach, I did not want to feel every toss and turn in the middle of the night with the rough sheets scraping my skin.…
Overall place is wonderful. Room is beautiful and clean. Expresseo machine was a little tricky and lost 1 of the 2 they give for free. It's $2 a cup after that. They have no elevators if that's a issue. Also it's absolutely smoke free hotel. The pool is super cold to refresh on hot days. The beach was totally covered with seaweed. Which was not cleaned up for the days we were there. Global warming and fertilizer run off. A human fault. Price seems a little high for what was offered. But a last minute trip and all the great places were full.
We have stayed at this hotel multiple times but this was our first time since the pandemic. The hotel has gone downhill. Positives: the staff is attentive, helpful and very nice. Rooms are spacious. Great location. Negatives: the beach has washed away and there isn't much left. We were very disappointed with the beach. Seaweed migration was in full force (in February already!) and the resort did nothing to remove it making the beach unusable. Breakfast was bad ... coffe had an odd taste, dishes were dirty. Car service to the cancun airport insisted on picking us up 4 1/2 hours early to avoid construction issues. It took us one hour to go from the hotel to gate leaving us with 3 1/2 hours to wait before our flight.
The rooms are big, it is quite cool on the inside and you are located directly central next to the beach. The downsides are that there is no bar or restaurant, no private parking and in our bathroom some water was leaking from the ceiling. Price-quality was satisfying though.
Lovely boutique hotel really close to the strip. BUT it is SO loud. We only stayed a few nights due to this. Breakfast was lovely and staff were friendly (but not always accessible), we wouldn't return. If you want a hotel to fall into after a night on the town that's relaxing when you roll out of bed at midday, then its for you. If you want a relaxing boutique hotel holiday, stay elsewhere.
It's a beach front hotel a step away from La Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue). It's very clean and their garden is well manicured. From our door, we can see the ocean. It's only a few steps away. It has an area for sunbathing. The staff is very helpful. We've been coming here for three years.
Ocean View Studio. Perfect View. We cannot complain about the studio, it had everything we needed....from shot glasses to dishes to a very nice balcony. Hotel has only 3 irons so good luck in getting an iron. The not so nice receptionist told me that she cannot ask the guest for the iron back. The receptionist when we check in was not too welcoming. I had to speak to her a couple of times to top it off regarding the iron situation. When you come out the your balcony it does have a fish smell since fishing boats are parked right in front of the hotel. However it's not that bad. My biggest plus was the cleaning housekeeping crew, they were so friendly and nice. I wish I could had gotten their names. But big shout out the housekeeping crew. No Parking, If you park on the street make sure you have coins. Machine takes only coins and little stores or restaurants around hotel will not help change bills for coins. Tendenza Estacionamiento was safe to park our car and reasonable in price. NO SARGASSUM AT ALL AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. Hope this helps :)…
This used to be a nice quiet hotel. The party here is louder now than on the strip! For location 10. For peace and quiet minus 10. Might as well stay at the disco. The noise and screaming echos down the canyon between the rooms. Most unpleasant. The partycould easier be enjoyed without making us deaf.
We were trying to contact a sales person in order to find out how to handle a leisure group but We did not receive any response. Then we talked to some of the guests of the property, and they shared there is a big lack on service. It seems they do not have interested on having much clients since due to the good location they already have a good level of demand based on their low rates.
The Sargassum problem is so extreme I noticed the horrible stench the moment my cab dropped me off (Google it...smells liked rotten eggs). Couldn't use beach, pool or balcony. My clothes still stink after coming home and washing them. While you can blame nature for Sargassum, this hotel is not removing the seaweed as needed. I had to pay for day passes to another hotel to enjoy a pool and beach where they were clearing the seaweed (purchased on ResortPass.com. lifesaver!). Any ads for Playa Palms should say Beach is Closed right now. I was also bummed they would not honor my request to check in 1 hour early for my 1 week stay ( I had gotten up at 3 a.m. for my flight and written them ahead of time to request this). Upon arrival, the desk attendant curtly told me to go wait outside (it was raining). I was so sad about choosing this place. Have since tried to get some money back, but hotel won't cooperate. The positives of this place were...good upkeep of my room, solid wifi for work, good room service breakfast(although credit card charged more than $7 a day USD that was stated). At one time in history this was a wonderful place my family loved. I will never return.…
