My wife and I have traveled to Playa many times over the last 15 years. We love the area, but wanted to find a quieter hotel than where we stayed on earlier visits. We discovered Luna Sol down a side street a couple of blocks off 5th and we were impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and the friendly staff. The location has walkable access to the bus depot, the collectivos and many great restaurants. Nancy, the owner, always makes us feel welcome and special and quickly responds to emails regarding any questions or concerns. We have since stayed there exclusively and would highly recommend it to anyone heading to Playa del Carmen.
Let me start by making a bold and true statement. LunaSol is a fantastic hotel! It's gorgeous and has a great layout. You enter into a spacious reception area that has a turtle and fish pond filled with wildlife rescues. The courtyard and pool area are sunny and fun to hang around and relax in. The benches built into the walls and the tree that grows through the walkway from the first floor up through the second floor add a very unique feeling and style to the building and grounds. The colors on the walls are vibrant hues of yellows and oranges that lend a feeling of comfort and relaxation to your stay. The L shaped pool has a deep end, a big round shallow side for the kids and a waterfall that cascades down to the hot tub and into the pool. We were there in January and it wasn't all that warm, but you could still swim in it. The rooms are very clean, minimal in a good way and the AC works great. The beds are a little firm. If you shut the windows the room is very quiet and peaceful. The patios and balconies are private little coves to sit and wind down in. Luna Sol is two long blocks away from the main strip in Playa, so you get very little street or club noise when you stay here. We found that to be a big plus! We prefer to go to sleep way before three AM and the techno and dance beat clubs keep going all night. The staff is the best! From the moment we called to get our reservations to the moment we checked out we got great service. They're also good at leaving you alone if you request privacy. Our new friend Siul Serrano E. runs the desk in the daytime and he helped us with everything we asked him for. Bus schedules, money questions, which restaurants to go to and even where the laundry mat was and how much to tip the lady who does your clothes. He even knew where the skateboard park was! The rest of the employees were extra friendly, equally as helpful and they'll even let you help feed the turtles. Thank you everyone! In addition to all that many of the best restaurants in town are on that same block, including Romeo Italian, Billy The Kid 24 hour authentic tacos and Carboncitos Mexican. I can go on and on but allow me to finish with this. Hotel Luna Sol is awesome. We loved it and I'm sure you will as well. Go stay with them and enjoy life!!! Cute place very close to Quinta Avenida where all the action is and walking distance to the beach and the bus station. The staff at the reception is very helpful. Breakfast is available. There is a swimming pool on the ground floor
Stayed there with my mom and 2 year old son. Room was basic but worked for us. We loved the outside kitchen and the kid friendly pool! Great location close to the beach and Wal-Mart. Staff was nice and helpfull especially Jorge and Victor. If you're not looking for anything fancy and expensice yet still nice and clean, that's the place.
Lovely room with a comfy bed. Pool area is intimate and good for kids. Waterfall sound from the pool was great at masking nearby revelers. Kitchen on site by the pool where we made breakfast each day A second courtyard with hammocks was a real treat.
