Been here for 1 week. It is paradise. Service staff cannot do enough for you. Be patient with them especially with the language barrier. Most do understand English. I would recommend you tip them at the start of your holiday. They will look after you especially in the restaurants. Reception staff can be rude. Take USD as most things are priced this way. Book yourself into the Al a Carte restaurants. It is really worth the experience. You can visit them all as much as you like but can only book one at a time - 24hrs before. The French restaurant is to die for and you might be lucky enough to have Fransisco wait on you . He is a gem. Please tip staff. They work incredibly hard to make your holiday as relaxing and stress free as possible. There is lots to do both at the main pool and trips. You can book with your holiday provider. If you booked with TUI, don’t bother booking trips on their app. I have not had a good experience or customer service using this platform. There is one English TUI rep who works from about 10:00-12:00. My opinion is that this is not enough for the amount of people who need advise or wanting to book a trip. The average wait is about 2 hours to see her. She is really helpful though. Anything you need, just call reception and they will sort it for you. You will have a wonderful holiday.

We stayed for 7 nights from July 26th. The pool is lovely, no issues getting a lounger and it’s warm and cleaned daily. The beach is soft white sand, plenty of places to lay out and relax. The seaweed is obviously a thing this time of year, but the staff work tirelessly to remove it and keep the smells at bay. It really only got stinky one day we were there and that was because a storm churned it up. We expected it and it didn’t spoil our trip at all. Being British and used to swimming in dark waters we got in the sea regardless, but we were the minority. The kids used the kids club multiple times and loved it. The team are really fun and make them feel at home. They offer childcare 10-5pm which is amazing. No need to book either so it’s really relaxed and they’re happy for you to pick up when you want to. We had a garden view room with two doubles, it stayed nice be cool in the room and it was cleaned every afternoon and the fridge restocked. If you leave a tip the cleaning staff make fantastic towel animals which our kids thought was hilarious. The room was showing it’s age a little, our sliding door needed a bit of tlc and the outside light didn’t work but these things weren’t a problem for us. We still used our balcony to sit and have a margarita every night and it being darker kept the mosquitoes on our neighbours side. We took advantage of the excursion to Xcaret. We’ll worth it. Especially for the traditional craft workshops and shopping in the ‘Mayan village’. Do walk up the beach to the blue lagoon, it’s cold but clear and really fun swimming with the current. Kids really need floaties for that. The breakfast is by far the best meal in our opinion. I will miss the Mexican brekky foods…so yummy! We booked an A La carte once, traditional Mexican food…and the beef fajitas were delicious. You need to book early (the day before) to get tables at busy times. If you don’t mind eating at 6pm you can pretty much guarantee a booking. The staff are all friendly and say Hola! as they pass. Our favourite was Daniel in the buffet restaurant. He memorised our favourite drinks and looked after us very well. The only thing I wouldn’t do again was 5th Avenue in downtown Playa Del Carmen. If I was young and child free I would’ve loved it, but it’s too busy, loud and intense with kids and the prices for souvenirs are high even if you haggle. We enjoyed meeting the artisans and shopping in Xcaret much more. Id definitely come back to this resort again.

We have been CircleOne members at Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda for about 14 years. Throughout the years we have been met with good and bad. I will primarily focus on the staff treatment during our stay this summer. To start on a good note…the waiters and bar tenders are the main reason we go back year after year. Big shout out to the following bar tenders and waiters: Candido and Ruperta- Beach front restaurant, this duo will make your stay memorable. The attention they dedicate to each guest is admirable. Fernando (Italian Restaurant)-He needs to be promoted. He made our last meal there such a memorable meal. Every evening he looked for us just to make sure we were taken care of. Alberto-Mexican restaurant- he also deserves a promotion. He made our family feel at home. Even when he was not our waiter, he would come to check on us and ask if there was anything he could do. Wilfredo- Meats Restaurant- Such a respectable gentleman, he has qualities of a leader. Other mentions that deserve recognition: Benjamin - French Restaurant, Daniel- Mexican Restaurant and Zuleyma-Festival buffet restaurant. From Circle one: Ignacio- Circle One Bartender- Amazing at what he does and is super clean. Andres from Circle One- One of the best employees there. When maintenance or other departments were unable, to address concerns in a timely manner, he would take care of things himself to make sure the guest were taken care of. I would like to say it again, the staff mentioned above are the reason we return year after year. They all deserve recognition for making a difference for our family and making our vacation memorable. Now to the factors that made our experience unpleasant.... Nancy Ruiz-She treated my parents and I poorly specifically when it came to making reservations for the restaurants. She went ahead and made reservations for only 3 people when we were 5 guests in total. When we asked her to add our entire party, she responded in a condescending manner and listed different hours quickly not giving us enough time to pick or properly hear the times she quickly listed, such action seemed to be done on purpose. We decided not to deal with her treatment and decided to come back another day, we never went back since we wanted to avoid her. One occasion is all it took for us to not ever want to deal or work with her. One employee we also wished to avoid was Victor H, captain at the beach front restaurant. Victor was by far the rudest employee we have ever encountered at Blue Bay in 14 years! Victor needs to be removed from his position as he seems to lack the people skills to complete his job successfully. We witnessed his mistreatment towards guests and staff on several occasions until we felt it was time to bring this to upper management. We spoke with Nicolas, supervisor, who was very helpful and addressed the concern regarding Victor. Tip to all guest- do not leave any clothing item outside to dry. During the early morning (4AM) we found 3 guests swimming in our swim up pool, NAKED, and trying on our clothing items with a few items never found, and we were told the hotel was not responsible for the missing items. We were told the guests actions were dismissed with a warning which was disappointing. Always, lock your doors and sliding doors. This hotel has great potential, yet the spa and circle one area are under construction…for two years now.

I wanted to write this review since there were so many negative reviews about it. After reading them, I almost wanted a refund. I had the complete opposite experience from those reviews. The highlight for my family were the huge pools. We were there almost every day! Earlier on in the day is the best time to go, but if going later there are more people there and feels a bit more crowded, but you will always find a spot. It is also a bit louder. Never anything disrespectful or threatening. Pools close at 7pm. One thing I do have to recommend is that if you can, renting a CAR is a MUST if you plan to go anywhere outside the resort. We did and it was safe and kept us way below budget. It was so worth it! My family spends more time outside the resort than in the rooms, so the the room was descent. Yeah, some things did not quite work like the hair-blower, or the mirror lights in the bathroom and the mirror glass had some corroded stains on the corner. I guess for a 5 star hotel you would have expected the Taj Majal. It is not! Do you have a spacious and clean bed to sleep in, yes! Is the room adequate for a family of three, yes! Is it air- conditioned for 98F, yes! Are the ceiling and walls falling and crumbling down on you, No! Are there bug infestations, never saw any. My family never really got t o make reservations for the a-la-carte restaurants and when we tried, they were all booked for the next two days. That was alright, we were always out of the resort anyways. My family always dined at the buffets. They were always varied and looked appetizing. My family eats light anyway, but when you see people with mounds of food on there plate as it was Mount Kilaminjaro, you know the food is good and they ain't complaining about variety. And if they do, you bet they'll come back with another 3-4 plates to their table. I enjoyed my stay here. It was a safe place. The place was massive and so was the pool. That was the highlight to our vacation, when we were at the resort. Would recommend this hotel to others : )

We spent a week at the hotel in July and overall we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We had a 1st floor balcony room in block 6 and could see the small pool and some of the surrounding Forrest/grass lands. The room was spacious and clean, towels were replaced every day and the mini bar was refilled every day with water and other drinks (beer, coke, Fanta, spite etc). We also had a nice fruit basket and bottle of wine for my partners birthday which was a nice touch. The hotel complex is large with lots of nature around, including lots of different animals which was nice to see. The golf carts taking people to different parts of the complex seemed to be running frequently from different pick up points around the grounds - we didn't use them as we were happy to walk. The majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful. All staff wore masks and waiters/kitchen staff wore hair nets too. The spa and snack shack by the smaller pool were not open. There is more than enough pool space between all of the 3 pools - perhaps not enough sunbeds for everyone and limited sunbeds in the shade. Most sun beds were reseverved with towels before 7am. We were always up quite early anyway so this didnt bother us and we were always able to get the sun beds we wanted (but would be more of an issue if you were not an early bird/adjusting to a 6 hour time difference!). There are some sun beds on the beach too, but the CircleOne are is for premium people at the hotel. The sea is not good for swimming in but the blue lagoon about 10 mins away was nice. There was entertainment around the larger pool from about 11am, such as music, aerobics, dance lessons, racing car competition, darts, bingo etc, which could be loud sometimes. The music was quieter around the smaller pool so was more relaxing. Sometimes the music was from other guests speakers rather than the hotel entertainment, which could start earlier than 11. We walked along the beach and saw other hotels with similar pool entertainment so I think that is just the vibe! There was also a pool foam party on the Saturday, which also seems to be the busiest day for people with day passes to the hotel. The food was fine, there was a wide selection in each buffet resturant (the main buffet near reception and the Ja-haal by the bigger pool) however it could get a bit repetitive. Much less options for vegetarian/vegan, but was fine for a week. We prefered Ja-haal as it was quieter. The speciality resturants have to be booked in advance. The concierge opened at 7am to book for the following evening (there was usually a queue before 7). We were awake early so didnt mind this but can see how this would be annoying if you werent up early. The food at the speciality resturants was excellent (especially French and Italian). Our waiter Benjamin in the French restaurant was super helpful and friendly. Guests are asked to wear masks in the resturants. There were several bars around the complex and all offeree a range of cocktails, spirits, beers and water. There was entertainment in the Black and White bar and some nights around the large pool, mostly music snd singing. What we saw was good. The only negative I would say is that when there are lots of people with day passes, the pool area can feel busier and louder, but this did fluctuate day to day. Overall I dont think that the hotel and entertainment are aimed at an 18-30 audience, I just think that the hotel had more of a 'lively' atmosphere than a relaxing one, but as said above, it seems like other hotels in the area have a similar vibe. After reading some negative reviews online we didnt know what to expect but like I said, we were pleasantly surprised and can't fault anything.
