This was excellent. I stayed in the new building (room numbers are 7000-9000). Had a sea facing room. It is right on the beach and the beach was fabulous, great, soft, white sand. I stayed away from the pool because patrons are not masked there. They have 5 restaurants. The food was ok, not the best, but no complaints. They have a show every night, but I didn’t really go (again patrons not masked at the show) but I enjoy relaxing in the room at night anyway. I like quiet when I travel. The hotel does a good job with Covid precautions with temperature checks everywhere, always cleaning, etc. I had a great time and I was there on a screaming deal, so it was a bargain. There are a mix of families with young kids and teenagers and couples. I only left the resort for my tours during the day and it was a nice respite when I got home.

The staff at RiU Palace is top notch. They were so nice and also helpful and friendly. Also very Covid aware. Loved watching them nicely remind guests who tried to just walk into restaurants without masks, temperatures taken or hand sanitizer. On that same note- one complaint to the RIU management- the front desk refuses to break change to tip the staff. We have always been able to in the past- and the Covid risk of making change is much more minimal than the front desk staff I saw who repeatedly wore their masks under their noses- rendering them useless- so that excuse does not fly. Our room was very nice- with a beautiful view of the courtyard and ocean in the distance. However, the new design is flawed. Have stayed in other resorts that have the tub in the room concept- but they always had a privacy screen able to pull around- not at the RIU Palace. There is virtually no privacy in the room at all- only stay with those you are willing to be completely unclothed around, as even the toilet is just in a tiny room with the toilet and a door. We enjoyed the restaurants and buffet. The women in the coffee shop were just the best- such great service. There are no more bottles of liquor in the rooms but there is a 24 hour self serve "snack bar" with wine, alcohol, beer and mixers- the snacks in there are ok in a pinch The resort is doing its best with Covid. Social distancing, the staff is always cleaning and enforcement of masks. Just one pool and the guests who chose to use it -seemed to possibly be in the flat earth society, the pandemic denier crowd. They sat and swam and frolicked on top of each other. We found the pool where the closed pool bar was, to be the opposite. While we were there- the guests at this pool were more like us- everyone sat at least 6 feet apart and even in the water were respectful of keeping distance. Beach was beautiful- but yes vendors do not respect privacy. Way too windy while we visited for any sailing etc though It's a very safe walk into town. There are some really cool ruins on the way also. It's a great way to exercise off some of the food and drinks :-) Shows were good at night, but come late- a. whole lot of time is spent on entertaining the few children present- and the early shows are beyond dull. Later, we found them to be really good All is all - we were really glad we chose the RIU Palace- we have stayed in them before and will stay again I'm sure

Just left the resort after being charged $96 dollars for blood on our sheets. That started for her 3 days ago. They claimed to be very worried about us. Even though we never left the resort, they could never get in touch with us. Ummmm I have my phone and you can leave a note. Surely they didn’t wait until we were leaving so we would just pay a ridiculous charge 🙄. Btw, the way you get blood out of anything is soak it in cold water. Maybe I should start a resort business since I seem to know more about laundry. The grounds are very nice. Rooms are all updated. The staff is great and they hustle. That’s where the good ends. Not enough spots at the pools. Not enough wait staff at the pools. The food was definitely 3 star at best in the specialty restaurants. Night time entertainment was average. But charging us for my girlfriend getting blood on the sheets? Just looking for a reason to up charge us. Won’t ever be back, much less use ANY Riu property ever again. Enjoy the $100 rip off money. I’ll be sure to let everyone know about my experience. Great business model. Highly recommend finding something else in Playa del Carmen

Dear Tony, Thank you very much for sharing your feedback about your recent stay. While we wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. This is not a usual at our hotel and not the standard we are committed to providing. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it is apparent in this case that unfortunately we fell short on your expectations in some area. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, we can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. With best regards, Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya Online Reputation Manager
