This hotel was fantastic. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the food variety. If one is staying longer than 5 days the food gets a little old. The Japanese restaurant left a lot to be desired. The Fusion restaurant Crystal was supposed to be the best restaurant at the resort and by looks and service it was, the food was just OK. The staff from start to finish were exemplary! We loved the views and hotel room.

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed at the Riu at Rivera Maya for 6 days and absolutely loved the hotel, the staff was super friendly and extremely helpful. The food was delicious. We ate at 5 of the restaurants in the resort. We went with a group of 12 people and all of us were vegetarians. The chefs went out of way to make food for us. We were there when hurricane grace it hit cancun. The staff were working non stop to make sure the place was safe. You could see the staff cleaning every where. The resort was super clean and hand sanitizers all over. At the buffets you had to sanitizer you enter every single time. The check in staff especially Dennys Salmeron was one of the best. Everyone of speak English and always willing to help. I highly recommend going here!!!

Our trip to Riu Palace in playa del Carmen was excellent! Would recommend this resort to anyone! The only down fall was the seaweed but that was everywhere in Cancun I understand this is nature. We still got in the water and swam!

We went as a group of 9 for 2 weeks between 4th May 2022 and 18th May 2022 (Our Wedding was on 10th May) - Long Review Ahead - Hotel Pros - Breathtaking grounds and scenery The hotel is clean and tidy at all times Great food quality and so many options you will not get bored Drinks service in general is very good across the hotel - Around pools/beach, At night etc. Music around pool is a nice volume and isn’t excessive Easy access to everything in the hotel with just a short walk Services such as Bed change, Minibar, Maintenance & Room Service - Always prompt and efficient 5/10 minute walk outside of the hotel (But still within the gated community) gives you access to the other RIU’s which is nice - Good wildlife in Tequila & Yucatán Evening entertainment/Poolside entertainment was engaging and interesting and the kids entertainment look good too All members of staff were very polite and friendly, they engage in conversation and really make an effort to talk to you even when they’re are busy - The staff at the resort work so hard it’s unreal. They also appear to really appreciate it if you try and speak in Spanish even a simple “Gracias” seems to go a long way Note : Tipping isn’t mandatory in the hotel but the staff appreciate it so much and they work non stop. We tipped in 20 pesos the majority of the time and done it several times to various staff members throughout each day we stayed - “20 pesos is around (1 USD / 80p GBP)” - but again this isn’t mandatory and the service provided by the staff doesn’t change just because you tip - but it’s all about helping each other out if we can :) Wedding Overview - I would recommend this hotel in a heart beat ! You do have to wait until 3 months before your wedding date to be given a designated coordinator (if booked through TUI) however we had no issues what so ever and the coordinators were brilliant. We did have to change from our original coordinator to a new one but this just made the process/planning even better in my opinion the ladies that took over were incredible and were so organised the day was faultless, I can’t thank the two ladies enough especially when they picked up our wedding halfway through the process ! Everything we requested including changes were confirmed and paid for at our “final meeting” following arrival at the hotel. The day itself was out of this world ! We had a small intimate family only wedding and it was exactly how we pictured it. The beach is beautiful, Dining was amazing (We chose AGAVE Mexican Restaurant) and everything went to plan. The flowers were amazing in person big head roses and lush green foliage that is still alive and healthy a week after the wedding. The cake was amazing we picked a plain vanilla cake but everything was so fresh and light. The location speaks for itself clear blue waters and soft white sand for your wedding what more can you ask for it really felt like paradise. Our minister who performed the service was one of the most lovely women I have ever met and the way she performed the ceremony felt so genuine and heart warming - Thank you for everything you did for us ! Extra shoutout to our wedding photographer Company - Wedding Day Story /Photographer- TUFU TUFU worked non stop and he was polite, funny and friendly with all members of our group and provided a clear plan of the day. TUFU’s attention to detail was amazing and would take the same shot until he was happy with it - I Would highly recommend the company and TUFU specifically based on our personal experience, however, I imagine all the employees are amazing - Thank you ! Thank you RIU Palace Riviera Maya for everything you did for us and our families during our stay it really was an experience none of us will ever forget.

I have ratings for individual things so hopefully this helps others out: Resort/ Cleanliness: 5/5 Food:3/5 Drinks:5/5 Entertainment: 2/5 Staff 5/5 Pool and beach 4/5 This resort is absolutely stunning, they just renovated but that being said this isn't the resort for you if you are a younger couple or want to come with a group of girlfriends and you're under the age of 35 or so. I'm 27 and my boyfriend 29 and we found it to be quite boring. Its mostly an older crowd and families. I would definitely come here again as a family trip but not a couples trip. The food was just OK. Nothing special, when I see people say the food was the best they ever had I question their taste haha. Our favourite restaurant was Italian and our least favourite was the steak house. The steak we got was super fatty. Pools were small and got super hot during mid day - they need to cool it. Beach was nice, they have a seaweed problem but it didnt bother me. The entertainment was not our thing we left the resort almost every night only decent night was the silent disco. The staff here are incredible!!!! Please share this with your employees. BIG SHOUTOUTS TO: - Our cleaning lady MAYRA in room 24 - she was so sweet and did an amazing job everyday we got clean towels and didnt have to ask for a thing. - JUAN C & CARLOS in the dining hall and lunch buffet - these guys work super hard and go out of their way to greet you and ask about your day to know a little about you. They made us feel like we were special! - VICTOR was a great pool server he had good energy and was always running making sure he was getting your drinks! - NANCY at the cappuccino bar was the sweetest and always greeted me with a smile. She was always smiling and always made me so happy to see her! - CARLOS the Sunwing Rep, thank you for helping us out during our stay he was very helpful navigating excursions. The only person we had a bad experience with was with MANU at the front desk. When we first arrived to check in I was hoping to be greeted with some sort of excitement and a smile but he didn't even crack a smile. He was unfriendly and needs to be trained better in customer service. He made the first impression of the hotel a bad one.

This was our fourth time staying at The Riu Palace Riviera Maya. The majority of our experience was fantastic. However, I have two complaints: the air conditioning and the front desk. The air conditioning units were extremely loud. This prevented us from getting a good night's sleep during our stay. At the time of check out the front of desk staff were very rude. When I asked to move our check out time to thirty minutes after our original time they told me it was not possible, but instead offered to give us an additional hour for an outrageous amount of money. I would recommend this resort to other travelers. Hopefully these two issues will be sorted out in the near future.

Buildings and grounds are lovely for the most part. There is a bathtub in the middle of the room for some strange reason, no clock, no robes. Food and drinks are great. Staff is helpful and sweet. Every single evening there is “entertainment “ in the central courtyard, all the rooms surround the courtyard. This noise goes on till after 11pm. Feel bad for those families with small children. It is sooo loud and honestly not much more than screaming and drumming. We will never be back and I don’t encourage anyone else to stay here. There are too many other beautiful resorts all around.

This was our 3rd time at Riu Palace, Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We arrived Friday, 4/29/2022, and were greeted warmly by the Concierge! We arrived early, but they had our rooms ready quickly!! In the meantime, we got our wristbands to GET THIS PARTY ON!!! We were there with another couple who had never been before. We had no idea they had completely renovated the resort from top to bottom, inside & out!!! It didn’t even look like the same place! It just POPPED!!! Thanks to the other couple, we learned that Riu’s staff turnover is almost NIL!!! That spoke volumes to us! We begin asking those staff members we befriended and their tenure ranged from 21-10 years!!! The housekeeping was excellent! Everything was clean and spic-n-span! The dining areas had been remodeled so that the dining areas are completely separate from where the food is kept! Very clean and sanitary!!! Thank you Jorge, Meguel, Sonto, Adrianna, Gracie, etc., etc., etc! Until next time…..

Beautiful motel. Staff at the motel were great. Very close to 5th ave where shopping is and the ferry to Cozumel. The choice of foods were great a lot to choose from. Very clean. The ocean was really the only disappointment the seaweed had taken over and couldn’t get in the water.

I have stayed at quite a few RIU resorts. This one is by far the best. Not only because it is a beautiful place but the staff there is wonderful! Not just in certain locations, but everywhere at the resort. It started at check in. Gamaliel got us a great room with a awesome view and was very helpful. We got to know our waiters well. They had our drinks ready before we even sat down. Enrique was our waiter on the beach. He was fast and efficient. Never had a beach waiter that good! At the swim up bar Jorge was very kind. Even though he was busy he would take the time to chat and still work fast. The waiter Roney at the swim up bar was definitely my favorite. That guy is a hard worker! I saw him running to get people there drinks. He was so friendly and loves his job. Santos was another great person. Hey was happy and joked around with us. The whole experience was the best. Mendez was awesome. He made us a special table at the Kyristal restaurant. I will definitely be back. I hope to see them all again!
