Acanto is clean, friendly, and is in a great location. It is close to many restaurants on 5th avenue (a bit touristy) that are open until relatively late. It is also within walking distance to a couple of beach resorts and to a more local neighborhood. Wifi was a bit slow and spotty in certain parts of the hotel, but it did it's job for when we needed to do simple location searches.
We are a family of savvy travelers, that plan trips to countries with rich cultural history annually and thus were not excited to be in an AI resort. Instead, we wanted to immerse in the beautiful, vibrant, musical, and simply mesmerizing culture of Mexico and Quintana Roo/Yukatan area. When we first read that this little gem is located right off Quinta Avenida we were excited that our 2 sons could walk everywhere, and that we would be able to have a vast variety of restaurants, cafe and beach clubs. The noise claims alarmed us a bit, since we like to sleep early (around 10pm) and thus I called Acanto, only to be met with a very professional Manager, Laura, who willingly gave us the suite at the back on the 2nd floor. In all honesty, that minimized the live music from the bar next door, but if you have a keen ear like me, you will still be able to hear it. The music dies down completely on 12 midnight so the first nights we braved it out. Luckily, the 4th night of our stay, the music was altogether stopped at 10 pm and sweet dreams happily ever after. If your family is like ours, you may want to opt for renting a car (National had the best price/service at the airport), and parking it at the free parking of the hotel, so you can fully experience all the local beaches (we loved Xpu-Ha), cenotes (we loved Azul), go to Chichen Itza, Tulum, Villadolid colonial village, and take it all in. Mamita's beach club is an 8 minute walk from Acanto and is simply one of the nicest beach clubs we've seen (including Mykonos Island!) In the morning, you will be greeted by Acanto's breakfast lady, as they call her, who is the sweetest and full of smiles, preparing excellent coffee in a percolator and cutting fresh fruit platters. The suites are very large, bed mattresses 5* quality as well as pillows, cleanliness top notch (the cleaning lady comes every day and washes all dishes if any, the floors, and leaves bathrooms pristine). Usually, after we came "home" (as my boys called it) we would dip in the pool to cool off. A few extra tips: bakery next door makes french pastries and very good Americano on ice (Americano on rokas). You may want to try Marley's coffee a few streets down (Bob Marley's son owns it) as well. Brioche bakery has nice croissants. We went to Soriana market and stocked up on water bottles and other little snacks. Enjoy!…
When we went to the private beach, the front desk people welcome us and provide one room for us to have a shower, even we already checked out in the morning. The front desk people is always very friendly. You can talk with them and keep your luggage in the lobby after you check out in the morning. The living room is spacious and each room has a TV and bathroom. I love this place when I stay in Cancun area.
Friendly stuff, reasonable price for the quality and location. Close to 5th ave and beech. Room was quiet despite the fact that it is located almost on the 5th ave. This is not huge hotel, more like a family business.
This was my first time at Acanto Hotel. It is quaint, very well placed so there is no noise from the street but close enough that walking the "main street" of shops and restaurants is less than a block away. The staff is friendly and incredibly helpful. The breakfast in the morning is nice, not the best, but enough to get your day started. The pool is located in the middle of the building so not a lot if sun. It is more a hang out and relax kind of pool. Great for kids to play. I will be back for sure, easy to recommend Acanto, it is beautiful!
