Super location, cool interior and common area. I didn't particularly w enjoy the atmosphere here though I feel it was very clicky. Staff were relatively helpful. The breakfasts are super, plentiful and filling. Dorms are spacious with ample storage.

I stayed here a few nights ago and it was fine - good showers, decent dorms although I got a few bites from something. I came back after visiting Cozumel and had a really poor experience from the two managers who had suggested a trip to a cenote and told us to get a taxi there saying it was 'definitely... More

The staff here is super friendly. The rooms are really clean and the showers are just amazing! (After 4 months of traveling, I can say that they are the best I've had in hostels). The wifi is really fast though the reception is bad in some of the dorms. In the evening there's some nice atmosphere.

The rooms are your typical cheap basic standard stuff for college kids who dont really care about where they sleep, but its clean and the culture is very cool!!! Had a room and bathroom for $50 total for lne night. Artistic, hippy, safe and welcoming! The main area has an outdoor bar. When we got there they were playing janis... More

I totally forgot to post my review.. I stayed at the Yak in May. I stayed in a private room in the building just next door. A/C on all the time, nice but little bathroom and a nice double bed. there was even a sink, a fridge and some type of cook top. I didn't use it, as everything was... More

I stayed in this hostel for 3 weeks and had the best time, I was even looking at flights back as soon as i got home i missed it that much. It's in a perfect location, close to the beach but set back from busy 5th Avenue, in good walking distance from both bus stations, shops, bars etc. The staff... More

as the sharing rooms look very fresh we thought will be nice to expend a couple of days in a single room but we found ourself in a dark room in an independent building, not very clean and not very fresh. THe furnish are ugly and we decided to leave the place after the first night. Unfortunately we didn't have... More

Overall it's a good hostel in a decent location. You can't bring your own booze in though, since they have a bar at the hostel, which is too bad. But the room I was in had good lockers, a little patio to hang stuff, and a decent bathroom. I'd stay there again.

The atmosphere was very nice but really didn't like to find insects in the bathroom. The breakfast was ok. Also I didn't sleep really well because there was music and loud noises all the time until 4am...

I ended up here because the hostel I originally booked was gross. The Yak was nice enough-- rooms were comfortable, had windows and were reasonably clean. It is definitely a party hostel. If that is what you're looking for, you'll love it here. If not, look elsewhere.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"There are no strangers here, only friends we haven't met." That's the vibe you can expect when entering the perfectly shaded, outdoor courtyard at The Yak. With a combination of the best location, great accommodations, a friendly staff, and lots of awesome things to do-you can't miss out on The Yak. Located right in the center of Playa, The Yak is close to everything: 5th Avenue (known for its restaurants and shops), grocery stores like Wal-Mart, 12th Street with all of the bars and nightclubs, and, of course, the beach-but many people pass the day in the hostel lying in the hammocks or chilling on the rooftop terrace. In The Yak's courtyard, you will find a 24-hour reception with lots of staff members who are always available to answer your questions, a cool bar with cheap prices, and a café where you can order paninis and coffee. The Yak was created for travelers, by travelers-so it's more than just a place to sleep, we try to keep it fun! We have different activities everyday including movie nights, tours to Cenotes, our famous Mojito Lesson, and many more! For those looking to explore the Mayan ruins, we can reserve additional excursions. The Yak has two communal kitchens, bright/airy dorms, and private rooms with kitchenettes, so there is an option to suit every budget. Many people plan to stay for a few days and end up staying for weeks. You're guaranteed to leave The Yak with new friends and fond memories, so come be a part of The Yak Family! ... more   less
