The yak is a stand out hostel. The atmosphere that the amazing staff and the building its self is incredible. They offer pasta nights, BBQs and have one of the best bars around! The staff helped me to organise day trips and were very knowledgable of the attractions and best pieces of Playa del Carmen. There are plenty of bathrooms... More

The staff was really nice and helpful. The room was clean and big. The activities were so much fun (Halloween party, Mojito lessons). The hostel has its own bar with cheap prices. The location is great with few minutes to the clubs and to the beach. Would come back anytime!

We stayed in an 8 man dorm for 2 nights over Halloween and we were very happy with our stay. The dorm was spacious with big lockers that your pack can fit it. We had an ensuite bathroom which was always clean and had great water pressure however water was only luke warm. Bed was very comfy, powerpoints at each... More

The place is pretty good. Average prices per night. Crew is a bit cold and not so friendly sometimes. There are bedroom of 4 6 or 8. Hot water and very good WIFI. Beds are bit hard and dirty. But except that the cleaning stuff is working around the clock to clean everything, especially inside the rooms

This is a good place to meet fellows travellers from all over the world. The shared facilities are the best since there is a bar, restaurant or if you prefer to have your own drinks. I loved the activities programmed every night where you can learn to prepare cocktails such as mojitos or margaritas. Excellent to make new friends. Rooms... More

A friend recommended me to stay here and I booked it with no expectations. We arrived and i was immediately blown away with the atmosphere of the place. It was what you would expect your Mexican holiday to be - relaxing, close to the beach and just has the right amount of chill. The staff were very friendly and accomodating.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"There are no strangers here, only friends we haven't met." That's the vibe you can expect when entering the perfectly shaded, outdoor courtyard at The Yak. With a combination of the best location, great accommodations, a friendly staff, and lots of awesome things to do-you can't miss out on The Yak. Located right in the center of Playa, The Yak is close to everything: 5th Avenue (known for its restaurants and shops), grocery stores like Wal-Mart, 12th Street with all of the bars and nightclubs, and, of course, the beach-but many people pass the day in the hostel lying in the hammocks or chilling on the rooftop terrace. In The Yak's courtyard, you will find a 24-hour reception with lots of staff members who are always available to answer your questions, a cool bar with cheap prices, and a café where you can order paninis and coffee. The Yak was created for travelers, by travelers-so it's more than just a place to sleep, we try to keep it fun! We have different activities everyday including movie nights, tours to Cenotes, our famous Mojito Lesson, and many more! For those looking to explore the Mayan ruins, we can reserve additional excursions. The Yak has two communal kitchens, bright/airy dorms, and private rooms with kitchenettes, so there is an option to suit every budget. Many people plan to stay for a few days and end up staying for weeks. You're guaranteed to leave The Yak with new friends and fond memories, so come be a part of The Yak Family! ... more   less
