Once again, and for the 14th year, we have spent a winter vacation at Fishermen's. There have been a lot of changes over the years. The resort has had facelifts and many changes with staff, but to the credit of the ownership and management, there are consistencies that endure. Anselmo, Gamaliel, Absalon, and Marciel. These men have been with us a very long time and they are our friends. We know when we arrive that they will all be there for us. They are the glue that have bound us to the resort. But new staff have come along. One, the past few years that has most certainly enhanced our Fishermen's experience, is Karen. Karen, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the warmth that you have added to the resort through your various roles and promotions. You are establishing a culture at Fishermen's that enables every employee to enjoy their jobs. Julio our amazing manager, has a lot to do with this as well. NEVER has the customer experience been as good as it it now under his supervision. I believe it is the attention to detail that impresses me the most. The maid service is amazing. I would like to thank all the front end staff for their work as well. Alexandra and her team have certainly embraced taking care of customers. Special thanks to Denise and Eduardo for sharing their time with me morning or night. Getting to know all the staff a little more has been a joy. There is also a higher energy amount the serving staff. One individual who unfortunately I cannot remember the name of, was an Everready bunny when he was on shift. He was everywhere asking if he could help with refreshments. He worked the evenings during our first week as bartender at the beach bar. That was the week of March 1st. Thank you. Thank you as well are great activities coordinators, Rachel and Oto. It was a lot of fun! Aerobics...amazing! I would like to encourage the Sunset leadership to continue updating our favourite place in the world. The best strategy is to eat this elephant one bite at a time. Don't wait to do it all at once.....little by little, please. Our home away from home has come a long way. We can hardly wait to be back in 2021 to see what is in store! Karen <3

Always have loved this resort. Back after 5 years and still recognized familiar faces. The resort is small enough that you get to know the staff over the week. Perfect location in Playa. 15 minute walk through lush cobblestone neighborhood to 5th Ave shopping. Great welcome fiesta with mariachi band on Sunday. Different dinner themes every night. Great buffet breakfast. Evenings were very quiet. Spent 3 days diving with Pluto Dive Shop. A short taxi ride uptown to 40th. Highly recommended! Also discovered a great cafe downtown called Choux Choux.

A relative set up a stay at a timeshare at this resort. We had read the previous reviews and were concerned, but looked forward to a vacation by the sea. When we got there, there was a little bit of a mix up. We were supposed to have a first floor unit, but instead had a second floor walk up. When we got into the room, the living room furniture was worn and needed replacement. We were going to hate it... Except, the view was amazing! The staff was amazing! There were activities provided everyday. My favorite were the mariachis and Mexican buffet in the restaurant on Sunday night. It was a lot of fun. The beach bar had great margaritas and they were pretty inexpensive. Adjacent to the hotel was an activity booth where we booked parasailing and sea doo excursions. We walked to 10th and 5th Avenues a couple times. There were some peculiarities like the fact that it sits in a mostly residential neighborhood. A nice residential neighborhood, but still a little different. We enjoyed walking into town, exploring the adjacent architectural ruins and viewing the native zerekes (yeah, we had to figure that out too). If you enjoy an ocean view in a more intimate setting than a megaresort, you will enjoy your stay. The margaritas, the attentive and friendly staff and the incomparable views will allow you to overlook its shortcomings like dated decor and worn furniture.

Room Tip: There are no elevators, but the view is worth a trip to the 2nd floor.

It's a small friendly resort. You can get to the pool and beach from your room in less than 1 minute. It's relaxing and friendly. We love to buy a few groceries so that we can have breakfast and lunch in our room. Then we either have dinner at the resort or walk into town. We also love taking the catamaran and kayaks out if it's not too windy.

All the staff were consistently gracious and helpful. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere and the sense of ease--exactly what we look for on vacation. In addition, the Playacar neighborhood is delightful to explore (including the bird sanctuary). Finally, Fishermen's is an easy walk into Playa del Carmen. We couldn't ask for more.
