My husband and I booked our first vacation in here, yes I read the reviews but I'm that type of person that I'm gonna do whatever, the check in was on time, but the most weird thing you can't go to your room with the guy that had your luggage, none one will tell you where to go, the place is enormous and we were lost, well we made it to the room, everything was perfect, they cleaned the room, every day,but they had this thing about the drinks at the pool, you can't drink till 11:30am really?we are on vacation,we can eat in every restaurant a la carta, that was not problem at all but the lack of food at the restaurant there was soo little food,it was delicious everything but,is a buffet you need to add more variety of foods, the thing that was an huge problem is the people for the time chare that they don't leave you alone, now is not just at the airport is in the hotel, when you go to the pool at the restaurant I'm on vacation an they are just constantly and on purpose fallow you whatever you want to go this is a huge problem, they too tell you lies about chocolates that you can get at the lobby,it was on purpose this is so unfair for all the people that want to have a beautiful time, and they don't let you alone, the place is enormous and beautiful is a jungle and the people they are some friendly and others not,but we don't have any problems at all they prepare the most delicious drinks you can't have those drinks anywhere,I like the food, yes you have to walk tremendously but you can see the beauty of the place the last day at the buffet they don't have coffee but we have our coffee thanks to a wonderful worker, they have many activities at the pool, music you need to have more diverse music but was ok,we love the tacos delicious,we tried all the restaurants and we like it thank you so much.

Hotel's Favorite
We just returned from an 8 day stay at the Occidental. A few things that stood out were the amazing facilities, you really can’t beat the lagoon beach for kids and adults alike, and the pool options were great. We also loved how the hotel mixed jungle and the beach. We had monkeys on our balcony and saw an abundance of wildlife on resort trails, which made it a unique experience for an all inclusive that stands out from your typical Playa del Carmen resort. The staff at the restaurants (particularly the Mediterranean restaurant), the servers by the beach and pool, and the shuttle drivers around the resort (shout out to Moses) were all lovely. Thank you so much for making our stay more enjoyable. We loved the optional on site photographers that took family photos of us on the beach and with different animals around the resort. My daughter looked forward to “monkey photo day” or “parrot day”. The photographers were in no way pushy to take or purchase photos, and they made the photo shoots really fun for my daughter. They turned into some of our favorite photos from the trip. The proximity to the Xcaret park was such a treat. We loved the boats that take you in and out of the park. Also, don’t miss out on the excursion to Xel Ha. It was amazing! There is SO much for families to do at the Xcaret parks, we are already looking forward to returning. We did not care for the lack of lunch and breakfast options. Two meals out of the day had to be at the buffet. I really wish they would at least offer lunch at some of the restaurants. Additionally, after eating at the buffet all day...we struggled to get a table at any of the restaurants during several nights at the resort, and were forced to eat dinner at the buffet. Also, the gym closing at 4 was highly inconvenient. I couldn’t get one work out in during my stay just due to the poor hours. Finally, the resort did an excellent job with covid precautions, and really made us feel safe. We also appreciated the on site covid test to get home.

This resort is the best we have ever been to. The staff is VERY friendly. Rigoberto Perez Ramirez at the taco bar was an amazing waiter. He was super friendly and fun to deal with. Our personal concierge, Pavel Garibay was the best!! He told use so much history about the area and made sure we had everything we needed. He had the sweetest lady working with him, her name is Maria de Lourdes, and Birgitta was amazing too. I could go on and on. We will be back for sure!!

Stayed for two weeks with family in April which included access to Xcaret park for the whole time. Check in was excellent and room was spacious and clean. First morning after breakfast overlooking the sea we walked through the jungle trail and fed two Monkeys. We had a 3rd floor room block 20 which is situated in between two pools and close to the swim up bar and restaurant above. Food was mostly good with lots of fresh salads and various meats, Drinks are excellent and plentiful. Seafood restaurant was the best by far and a very special mention to our waiter RUSSEL CAHUN who was possibly the most polite and sincere person I have ever met (Management take note😁). Pools are very nicely laid out so if your lively/chilled you can find somewhere to go. The lagoon had a lot of seaweed which was removed daily so still able to swim etc. It was my daughter’s birthday while we were here and guest relations were really happy to arrange a cake and allowed me to book a table which was decorated. We also had several visits to our balcony from monkeys when we left fruit for them. The highlight being when one climbed on my shoulders for a better view. Nighttime shows were good but entertainment not long enough. IL DIVO were very good. Only negative thing is not being able to make reservations for restaurants. We visited Xcaret park almost daily and with the early entrance the hotel provides 8.30am you get the park almost to yourself. We have been to Mexico many times and this was by far the best. Miss you already

First of all I will say the grounds are beautiful. That is it the rest of the resort gets less than a zero rating. The rooms were basic hotel rooms, some rooms had a coffee pot some didn’t. Some had coffee for the coffee pot some didn’t. Some of the refrigerators got water bottles and some didn’t. Some got cleaned and some didn’t. I went to the manager who said it would be addressed and it wasn’t. The staff was largely unfriendly. The food was disgusting in the buffet, in the restaurants and everywhere. According to most guests the best food was the oriental restaurant but it is very small and you had to wait in line early just to get a reservation. The nightclub was closed. The taco place ran out of food and closed early. They don’t let you get alcoholic drinks until 11:30 am. Half of the pools were closed so all the chairs were crammed in one area. The pools that were open were filled with leaves and crap and not cleaned at all. I met multiple people who were frequent visitors to the resort who said it continues to go down hill. So sad. There were very few golf carts to take you around the hotel which is spread out so you had to walk everywhere which was tough on my parents who are older. Do NOT visit here - save your money.

This was our second visit to the resort having previously visited in 2014. It’s a nice hotel and resort, the bar and waiting staff are extremely attentive and welcoming across all of the restaurants and bars. The room was great, we had a junior suite which I would recommend They gym is good and large for a resort gym, though the equipment is old it is well maintained. However, I feel that throughout the resort too much focus is now on their First Club guests to the detriment of the normal guest experience First Club is their version of a membership, it lasts 25 years and you pay a fee (weighted to the start of that period) then you get cheaper rates and access to exclusive pools, bars and beach areas that offer a higher standard From arrival we were hounded on a daily basis to go on a first club tour, which finally we relented. Finishing the tour we decided it wasn’t for us and would probably in the future look for resorts without this option as it does dectract from the experience It should be noted it appears that in much of their marketing material on their instagram it’s often the first club Sun beds, bars and day bed locations that I have noticed being featured. I feel this to be rather disingenuous as that is not the experience a normal guest would received Occidental Xcarat has served us well for two holidays but will most likely try a new resort next time and probably not a barcelo one so we’re not constantly chased around to join first club.

Nice place. But don’t expect to get a by the sea real beach at this hotel. Cons The way reservations (which do not exist) for the restaurants causes problems (like waiting 2 hours to be able to eat). There was a moment where water leaked in my room and it took hours to get fixed. An alarm rang for hours in the middle of the night and was so intense that it woke the whole building up, bit nobody did a follow up on that aftermath. Pros The food is good (when you succeed to get a place at a restaurant). The staff is very nice. The place is clean. The drinks are good and there are many options. The pool is nice (even if theres leaves all the time in it, but that comes with the nice junglelike location). I would recommend the place. But it’s not a 4 stars and a half. I would not pay too much to go there (as I did when I went last week).
