The 5-star Occidental at Xcaret Destination in Riviera Maya is a perfect combination in a natural setting with preserved cultural landmarks and an all-inclusive resort with a unique array of rooms, services, and state-of-the-art facilities. Choosing among the many possible activities is the most complicated part of a stay at this resort in Playa del Carmen. Swimming with dolphins, attending a Mayan Indian ceremony, enjoying all types of water sports at the beach club or sailing down the beautiful rivers and canals that surround the hotel are just a few highlights. The Xcaret eco-archeological park offers one of the most unique and exciting park, especially for families, by guaranteeing over 40 cultural attractions and expositions on art and traditions in Mexico. However, as people normally say at the hotel: "Do it all...or simply do nothing." Choose from a list of diverse activities such as strolling through the lush gardens at the resort, enjoying the sun while lying on a hammock, or taking a refreshing swim in one of the resort's five pools or private beach. Anti-stress remedies at the resort are endless. Regardless of how you plan each day at the resort, the hotel's choice of culinary selections is designed to satisfy the demands of every kind of guest. With 10 bars, including the one at the club, and 11 restaurants, guests have the freedom to choose a snack, an informal meal, a gourmet feast or a candlelight dinner, among many other options. The key to this resort is balancing between modern facilities and the marvelous Mexican rainforest that is filled with stunning local wildlife. Entertainment, relaxation and nature coexist at the Occidental at Xcaret Destination.

I really recommend this hotel you will not regret it if you love nature it is wonderful to see the monkeys. The beautiful beach, food, entertainment and overall had a great experience with family. The only thing that I did not get used to is the hot and humid weather, but there is swimming pool and nice cool rooms.

Hotel's Favorite
Had a lovely holiday at the hotel, plenty to do during your holiday in a beautiful environment along with having the wild animals around the hotel made it even more special, especially the wild monkeys. The room I had in block 18 was in a great place with it not being far a far walk from the pool and lobby and restaurants, the concierge Jack, David and Birgitta are very helpful and nice to talk to. The room had a very nice large bed in it which was also very comfy, I had a 'garden view' so only seen trees but this was fine with me the air conditioning also worked brilliantly which was well needed due to the heat outside. Cristina, Paola, Karla, Alejandra and Julio provide great entertainment during the day and are great fun were always happy to chat and made you feel very welcome and always entertained during the day time. The evening entertainment is also great each night with live music and singers which made it even more fun to watch and the best evening entertainment I have seen out of any hotel I have been to in the past. There was a great choice of food at the hotel and it felt great that you could walk into the a la carte restaurants without making a booking but because of this, they do tend to get busy and you may have a wait until you can get a table. The main buffet restaurant also had a great choice of food with a different theme each evening. During lunch and dinner, there was also ice cream which you could help yourself to of which is a great idea. All other staff at the hotel I spoke to were always lovely and it was also nice that staff say hello to you when you walk past which is a great touch. during the stay, I also went to Xcaret Park, which is a very short walk from the hotel or you can go on one of the small river boats for a nice relaxing ride.

the room amazing, some restaurants are amazing - such as los olives, and the pescador. the bars are pretty could with variety as well. the pool is not that great with tiles breaking off, and the hot tubs/ jacuzzi being cold with rings of dirt around them. the walk ways are super dark at night, which is understandable due to all the wildlife, however very scary to walk alone at night to get to place. and the place is so big that you get loss in it, so a little more iilumnation would be great. there was times that we got bored at the facility and there was no activities really that are modern to do. like karaoke, or foam parties, dance offs. like they do in other resorts that we have been to in the past. so other then that if a few tweaks in those things the place would defenilty be 5 star.

We traveled here in a group of 8. We picked this resort because it checked the boxes we were looking for: 1.Spacious 2.Connected to Xcaret (We didn't even end up going) 3. Inlet seemed like it may be cleaner than open beach. 4 Shuttle service throughout resort Positives included: When we arrived we were pleased with the Lobby view. Check-in was smooth & staff were welcoming. Rooms were nice & requests were honored. The layout of the resort is a journey in itself, but there are map boards to help you out. Entertainment throughout the resort was good and the shops along the water had decent pricing for the most part. There are old ruins on site, and animals to see/interact with (Monkeys,Coaties,Iguanas,Flamingos,Agouti's,Macaws) Some downfalls include: Room service - available, but you have to provide a credit card with each order. WIFI is an extra fee, Food was decent tasting, but we did have 6 of 8 ppl that suffered stomach issues & when one of the kids was sick, neither the restaurants or buffets would let us bring anything back to the room / They just kept telling us to get room service. The last 4 days, half of us upgraded to the Members section- The 1 BDR suite we upgraded to was breathtaking, as were the views from our private bar & restaurant, on a rocky ledge, overlooking the ocean - with everything included! WIFI /Room Service/ Private pool/restaurant&bar. Don't forget mini-golf! Negative here is kids are allowed in both pools, and they aren't that big = NO QUIET TIME

To be frank, I was surprised at my disappointment as all the reviews were so positive! The rooms themselves were just “ok”, certainly not luxurious (and we were upgraded to First Club room as our double bedded room that we booked wasn’t available). They were clean and functional but can’t say they blew me away. Toiletries were only partially replaced once during my 10 day stay! The poolside experience was nice (when people weren’t blaring out their boom boxes) and made nicer by Lister and Rosita who’s smiling faces behind the bar made everyone happier! The restaurants were again “ok” but a lot more limited than described as 2 were completely off limits unless you were Royal (although we got upgraded, we couldn’t use the facilities) and there were a lot of restaurants that weren’t available until the evening. Of all the ones that we tried, the Italian was probably the closest you’ll get to feeling like you were in a restaurant instead of a school canteen. As well as the problem of most being outside (which opened me up to a multitude of mosquitoe bites!) it wasn’t pleasant eating when it was so hot! Not being able to take a pizza back to your room (you have to order room service and only after 10pm), nowhere to sit in an air conditioned environment to have a cool drink in the afternoon nor anywhere but the buffet to get a coffee (unless you wanted to pay at the speciality coffee shop) added to the just “ok”. The wristband status’s seemed outdated and charging for Wi-fi downright tacky The people were lovely, the animals enchanting but would I stay here again? - probably if I were travelling with children but for luxury I would say NO.
