My husband and I arrived very late on our first night after multiple flight delays from Texas. We were looking forward to a few days of rest and relaxation to help celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. Our first impression of Viceroy was of both shock and awe. We were shocked that Hurricane Zeta (which had hit just days prior) had not done more damage to such a beautiful resort and were in awe of the natural beauty surrounding us as we stepped into the open air lobby and were greeted with a chilled glass of infused coconut milk. The luxury villa was such a unique experience for us and included a heated private pool with a hammock along with ample furniture for lounging around. There was an outdoor shower that would be great for coming in straight from the beach but most of our time was spent poolside staring out over the ocean. We had a few issues with the temperature of our private pool but management went above and beyond to make up for the inconvenience. The food was AMAZING. We only had access to Coral Restaurant + Bar because of the hurricane and were a bit concerned with only having the one restaurant on site but Chef Carlos Zamora did not disappoint. Chef Zamora brings such a diverse palette of fresh flavors that we never ran out of options. You really cannot go wrong with any dish on his menu but you must try the Mayan Toast for breakfast. Trust me, you will want to order it again the next day. We also signed up for a private cooking class with Chef Zamora and learned to make both sweet and savory tamales. Great experience! The service at Viceroy is first class. The wait staff is so friendly and helpful. Ask for Sergio at breakfast and lunch. I can’t say enough nice things about him. Overall, we had a lovely experience at Viceroy and will be returning. Even with most of the resort out of commission due to the hurricane, we still had an amazing time soaking up sun, eating great food and doing absolutely nothing.

Hotel's Favorite
We went to the Viceroy for our honey/babymoon. All the staff were wonderfully attentive and helpful, particularly when it came to food and making sure I didn't have to lift a finger. The rooms are beautiful and we loved the option of having our plunge pool heated for the evenings and cool for the daytime. On the last day the monkeys came down to say hello, a testament to the work this hotel does to stay in sync with the nature around it. I can't recommend this hotel enough, it was such an awesome stay and the resort itself seems like it was made for social distancing.

To preface, we're usually adventure travelers - but with the craziness of 2020 , we had to look for something more relaxing and luxurious as we just needed some time to decompress from working non-stop all year. Viceroy turned out to be the perfect one week getaway for us. Even though we got hit by a hurricane the week we were here and had bad weather for 3 out of 5 days, we still enjoyed the ambience, the plunge pool and the spa. Most importantly every single staff member went out of their way to help us with whatever we wanted and more. During the night Hurricane Zeta hit, we lost power, and despite the heavy rain/winds, we were able to get delicious room service. They even comped this night for us, which they didn't really have to. Next day, they cleaned up all the leaves and debris in record time by mid-day -- I was really impressed. Also, with covid still raging around, all staff members wore masks at all times and there are proper rules around using the gym/spa etc which I really appreciate. I especially loved the privacy of our villa (I'd ask for villa 26!) and the wonderfully warm plunge pool. All in all, highly recommend this hotel!

Despite arriving the day of the hurricane, we had a great time. Staff was so helpful and checked in with us to make sure all was good with our villa post storm. One staff member walked us from dinner to our room during the storm to make sure all was good And another went back to room for us when I forgot something. This resort is very quiet and Relaxing which is just what we wanted....Would definitely return!!!! Word of warning: there is a group of guys waiting for tourists @ taxi drop off on 5th Avenue. With their masks on, they approach you and act like they were your waiter from the resort and try to drag you into a nearby store (the mama store- center de artesanias, joyeria, plata, acetone, circonia). Don’t fall for the — “hey it’s me, your waiter from the hotel last night” 😂
