Our trip to the Viceroy was our long dreamed of beach getaway after virtually no travel due to COVID. This resort is a special haven if you are seeking relaxation, service, great food, and luxury accommodations. I also must mention that the staff goes above and beyond to cater to the guests, like no where I have ever been before. And the food is so good there is no reason to ever leave this sanctuary-we never did! Rooms are cleaned and refreshed twice a day-what a luxury! My husband and I both had a massage and thought our masseuses where some of the best we have ever had, and we get massages frequently:) Thank you Jonathan and your superb staff for making this trip we will always remember!
I would like to think we are well traveled and fortunate enough to stay many places, not only in Mexico, but all over. The Viceroy Riviera Maya, has raised the bar and is probably the nicest place we've stayed! I looked all over Riviera Maya for the perfect resort and I am so grateful I chose this one. My wife and I were celebrating our 20 year anniversary, and the resort exceeded the expectations I had for the trip. Every employee went above and beyond, and all were extremely attentive. We spent most of our days on the beach with Pepe', who absolutely spoiled us! He knew our needs and wants before we did. The food was fantastic! This is not your typical all inclusive resort. Every meal was made to order and delicious. Our compliments to the chef! I think I tried about every hand made cocktail while we were there, and I could not find one that I didn't like. So, if you're reading this and you're torn between a few different places, I hope this helps make your decision to pick the Viceroy. Traveler's tip: Bring a bluetooth speaker! When you're having some drinks and smoking a cigar on your patio, or lounging by your personal plunge pool, it was nice to have some background music. Thank you Viceroy for an amazing experience that my wife and I can only hope to recreate!…
Fantastic hotel with awesome service. We have been in many places all over the world but this place has the best service we ever experienced so far. Pepe on the beach but also all other colleagues where incredible and kind. They would read all your wishes even before you know that you have one. The room or better villa is fantastic and big. We had the luxury villa with pool and outdoor shower - it was more than Comfortable and clean. The food was great and prices fair. We enjoyed every min and would love to come again. It was incredible all over all. We spend many vacations around playa del Carmen but this was outstanding!
It‘s an absolutely lovely boutique hotel. I only wish I knew that it‘s NOT a sandbeach anymore. Pro - absolutely stunning service - lovely bungalows Things I wish I knew - stone beach (since 1y not sand anymore) - music (despite Ohropax and sleeping pills - it just doesn‘t fit to the luxury and price point) - seaweed (they do whatever they can but it‘s impossible to swim + smells terrible) Honestly, although it‘s a lovely boutique hotel - due to the stone beach, the music and the seaweed, I don‘t think I will come again. I give them 5 stars since it‘s still the best you can do near Playa del Carmen.
How best to describe paradise? The short drive from the highway down a dirt road between high walls of surrounding developments and hotels was not reassuring. But the turn off of the well-traveled path into a small private driveway turnaround began the fantasy. The glass of coconut milk as the aromas from an incense candle began the transition from the outside world into the Viceroy's version of a tropical getaway. The walk to our villa down a winding stone path through a green archway of tropical plants was as calming as it was beautiful. The Signature Villa, a large thatched roof suite with a plunge pool surrounded by a small outdoor terrace, felt private and remote. And totally soothing. One day, we barely left our own little piece of paradise. I usually put my expectations on hold for hotel food, but the food here is outstanding. Each dish (we started with roasted shrimp tacos after our arrival from the airport) was better than the next. And the service!!! From the very first minute, until the morning we left, the staff was attentive and friendly, and always ready to please, from acquiring a shaver that I needed after security removed the razor blade from mine to just making sure my margarita was the way I liked it. One example of how the hotel treats guests is worth repeating; we were there for my wife's birthday and after her birthday dinner in La Marea (another excellent meal), when we returned to the room, it had been decorated with balloons and a three-layer birthday cake made of white bath towels and decorated with lavender bougainvillea petals. We were sorry to leave.…
We had an incredible time at the Viceroy! As you will read on the other reviews, the service is above anything you can imagine. They think of everything for you and always have a can-do attitude. My husband and I are very health conscious and rarely go out to eat because we feel like it's not as healthful as cooking ourselves. The food was outstanding; there were plenty of healthful options that were absolutely delicious and didn't leave us feeling heavy and tired. We felt awesome the whole time and the cocktails were some of the best we've had! The beach is a bit rocky but they do provide water shoes and there are other places to enter the water from a very short walk down the beach if you choose to swim. The hanging beds on the beach were to die for and they offered incredible beachside service. Our room was delightful; the villas are spread out enough to create tons of privacy; we never heard anyone close to us while we were in our little private villa/sanctuary but it was also close enough where it was an easy walk to anything we needed. The outdoor shower was an absolute dream come true- couldn't be more perfect. They did a perfect job of blending nature with very high end amenities where you feel like you are dropped in the middle of nature but have every comfort you could possibly need and everything is very well kept. The gift shop has beautiful Mexican-made goods- I thought I could save some money by going into Playa Del Carmen to buy some things there but they were all junk. The gift shop at the hotel has very high quality items so don't waste your time looking elsewhere. We wanted to venture out but the prices for their private tours were a little out of our price range and they were kind enough to arrange another company who was actually fabulous and was much more reasonable. Natura Turquesa- naturaturesquesamx@gmail.com- they took us to the most incredible cenotes that were empty so we basically got a private tour- they listened to what we were looking for and did not disappoint! It was still a private tour but just not in a suburban but a nice new minivan instead and the family who runs these is personable and really cares and knows the area well. We took a few yoga classes and they were the best we have taken in our lives. Also, you can't beat the amazing scenery of watching and hearing the ocean right in front of you while practicing your poses! As some reviews mention, there was some noise from the adjacent resorts in the evenings, but typically that stopped by 9pm or 10 at the latest. I'm an extremely light sleeper and we went to sleep early every night and it never kept me up. We were asleep by 10pm every night and awake by 6am ready to watch the beautiful sunrise! We don't have enough great things to stay about the Viceroy! If you are planning on staying in this area, look no further. They do not disappoint!…
First vacation since COVID - was spectacular. The villa was marvelous and the staff was super attentive but not annoying or overbearing. The food was to die for. The beach and pool accommodations were first class and plentiful, never had an issue getting the perfect spot!
My partner and I just got back from the Viceroy (April 2022) and it was pretty amazing. Our Premium Villa was unreal. Very upscale and roomy like the pictures reveal. Our room had a stand alone tub which was gigantic and relaxing after a day in the sun. But the outdoor rain shower is like no other. The water pressure was powerful and it was like showering in nature. That was our favorite part aside from the very comfortable king bed. Also, having the private patio with a hammock was a bonus. The rooms (all of them) are top notch and we are incredibly picky when it comes to accommodations. One downside to the rooms is you can music in the distance from the neighboring resorts, but they are well aware of that and provide you with ear plugs should you decide to go to sleep before 10:30 when the music stops. Definitely not a deal breaker considering how awesome the Viceroy is. The beach: If you are craving a true beach/sand/ocean experience, this might not be the place considering all of the beaches in this region of Mexico have a lot of seaweed on shore. This resort was not immune to that and it was also a little rocky, BUT the pool makes up for it and so does the servers at the pool. They are catering to your every need non-stop. The pool area is chill, quiet, and super relaxing and the food is delicious. We are also "foodies" who like a good eating experience and this place certainly delivers. One downside is that you often need your phone for the QR menu codes so if you're truly trying to disconnect from electronics, that makes it harder. But they also have their own iPads to display the menu as well so that was helpful. The Spa: One of our best spa experiences on vacation ever. And I do mean "experience." It's not just get a massage and that's it. They have rituals, and a scent kitchen for your herbs, and you basically have the privacy of the entire "indoor" portion of the spa before and after your appointment. And excellent massage therapists. Food/Drink: We loved the Coral Restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They had food theme nights which gave a variety to the menu and they changed the outdoor ambiance with each night. The staff works non-stop at this place to create a great experience for everyone. We love a great "craft" cocktail and that's one area that could use some attention. Great classics (Margarita, etc), but would love to see some more creativity in a quality craft cocktail. Regardless, we still loved it all. The resort: Everyone on the staff was very friendly and each staff member wore masks at all times if that's a concern for anyone. The winding pathways through the resort made you feel like you were in the middle of the jungle and if you were lucky enough, you caught a glimpse of the native nasaus, lizards, spider monkeys, and an abundance of beautiful birds. Also, as a gay couple, we found it welcoming to find that we were not alone! In fact, there were a handful of LGBTQ couples at this resort and we can see why. They are accepting to all and it's private and quiet. We are already planning our next trip back! We miss it already!…
Must easily be one of the top 5 resorts between Cancun, Playa, and Tulum. The thatched roof villas complete with outdoor showers, plunge pools, and oversized tubs are really impressive. The food was excellent (although we definitely preferred Coral to La Marea) and the staff is more than happy to meet any request. (Someone literally went out for me in the middle of the night for something I needed - above and beyond.) This part of Mexico has a seaweed issue so it impedes the ocean experience; but this is no fault of the resort. The beach is also rocky but a small price to pay for the overall experience of true luxury. Was in the spa on three different occasions; both my partner and I were more than thrilled with the experience. It was just... special. Really, really special. I giggled at the "we're already planning our next trip" reviews before I left but I get it and so are we. When it's done right, when it's done like this - no need to explore anything else. It's as close to perfect as you can get.…
From the moment you walk on the grounds to the moment you leave the care and detail of this resort is unlike any other. Rather than being big it is small, and no detail is missed. The Viceroy Rivera Maya is the place to come, unwind, and reconnect with your love.
