We loved the two days we got to enjoy at the hotel before my husband had a heart attack. Staff at the front desk was quick to have the doctors over and call the ambulance. Felt safe… somewhat! Other than that, loved the pools, the beach and the restaurant. The gym is in need of new equipment, tough. Service was good and everyone was nice :-)
We have never been disappointed in any Riu Palace we've stayed and the Mexico is no different! We arrived in the evening (I HAD TO check out of the Riu Yucatan - it wasn't good at all - you can read that review) and I wanted to go to any of the Riu Palace resorts in the area, and the Mexico was available. The hotel is beautiful. We met some wonderful people there, our favorite was Alejandra, who worked activities, who we met while watching the show on our first night and we chatted with her every time we saw her for the week we were there! She was so sweet! We had fun chatting with Israel, who we met by the pool and he had only been working there a week! The pool bar had some wonderful bartenders, Ermilo, Luis and Rosa made our drinks and were great to chat with! Joe had everyone busy with pool aerobics and German was amazing as our pool waiter! The shows (evening entertainment) were also very good. The beach is normally gorgeous in this area but unfortunately there was a ton of seaweed in Playa del Carmen so the hotel had no control over that (but definitely unswimmable). The pools were great. The grounds were kept beautiful, and the food was very good with lots of variety. You also get top shelf liquor at Riu Palace resorts which is always nice! The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. We would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a great experience. It also solidified that we will, from now on, only stay at Palaces when choosing Riu! …
Another great trip to a Riu hotel that I have not been to before. Strongly recommend staying at the Palaces as this will give you access (drinks and food) to all 5 Riu hotel in walking distance (2 block walk at most), This hotel is right on the beach & Tequila is across the street. That is where most of the nightly activities occur. Which makes this a perfect location if you do not plan on hitting the town.
I was a bit disappointed in the quality of the rooms. Older. Beds are alright. Very, very clean! The customer service is where this resort SHINES! All the employees seem so happy to be there. The food is amazing and if you go hungry, it’s your own fault. There were five of us- Mom, Dad, toddler, Nana & Papa. We were all happy with the food. Nana & Papa loved the entertainment more than Mom and Dad. Toddler loved the RIUland kids club. There were A LOT of Europeans. My daughter. Who has traveled through Europe a few times said you could tell the European influence at this resort. Living in Colorado, we are NOT used to all the smoking that was allowed everywhere in this resort. We moved locations often to get away from the second hand smoke. I feel for the cost of this vacation, we definitely got our money’s worth and then some! Oh yeah! The beach was amazing! The sand was groomed often and was a favorite of all of ours when we weren’t in the Palace’s clean pools!…
We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in September .. Had a fantastic time, fabulous place amazing beach and beautiful food .. my only improvement for the future would me be to have an Asian /Indian restaurant on site and more choice of starters at the steakhouse other than that perfect 👍
Just Fantastic. Great Location. Superb friendly staff. So many food choices. At this point having been told a 200 word minimum I would have normally have declined to submit a review. However this place is so good I will continue. You will not be disappointed.
We like the buffet restaurant especially. The foods there were excellent in the evening. The staff were friendly & ready to serve anytime. The fountains outside made us feel relaxing. The property had excellent value for the price we paid to stay.
We visited as a family of 4 (14yr old and 12yr old children) - really enjoyed our stay. We had two rooms next door to each other but not connecting. Balcony with a view of the gardens/tennis courts. Bed was lovely and comfortable and we all slept well. Liked the lounge area for chilling out. Bathrooms are a little odd and the only reason I’ve not scored this hotel as a 5, we did know in advance hence booking two rooms but there is very little privacy - there is a toilet in a small room (like the size of a toilet cubical) but the rest of the bathroom is open to the room. The shower is quite private but the bath and sinks are on display so if you are sharing a room with a self conscious teen there isn’t really anywhere they could get changed with privacy. Don’t let this put you off as it’s a truly lovely hotel but I think it’s best to know in advance. We ate in all of the restaurants except the Mexican one and only because we ran out of time. Steakhouse was our favourite although get your bug repellent on as after dark the bugs seem to have a feast as being right in the edge of the beach seemed to be prime bug bite location in the evening. The buffet was excellent, breakfast had an amazing choice of sweet and savoury options. There were also dairy free and gluten free options although be aware that they were not monitored so could be at risk of cross contamination by other holiday makers. The coconut ice cream was delicious and there was a lovely tangy lime sorbet for anything who doesn’t eat dairy. If you want a light bite then the coffee shop was a great place to enjoy a lovely coffee, milkshake or cake - fab air conditioning and we lovely going up the spiral staircase as the seats up here were so quiet and peaceful. The cocktails were good - not strong but tasty and with it being so hot I didn’t find the strength an issue. Spirits were high quality and most brands seemed to be available if you have a personal favourite. It’s worth asking even if it’s not on the menu as they seemed to have plenty of options. The lobby is air conditioned and great to escape the heat if needed. Evening entertainment was mixed, we loved some of the shows and others we didn’t like as much but impossible to please everyone and we enjoyed the majority of the things we watched. My kids loved the Kahoot! Quizzes and also karaoke. During the day, we enjoyed the foam party, coconut party, fruit party, water volleyball, aqua fit, bingo, Spanish lessons and lots of other fun activities. No pressure at all to take part and the right balance of things to do without being too noisy/busy. Highlight of the week was the Neon party over the road at the Tequila hotel - it was really fun and my children had the best night ever. Neon face paint and dancing until midnight. Really great night. We visited all of the Riu hotels in the area and loved how each one had a different style and atmosphere - we did like palace Mexico the best so glad we had chosen that one. Loved seeing the wild howler monkeys at the Playacar hotel (I think it was that one), there were some very cute baby monkeys. The beach was beautiful and there was waiter service around the pool and across the beach. Wifi signal was pretty strong and almost made it to the waters edge (important for teens who want to chill on the beach but not be offline 😆). We had a couple of days where the seaweed was bad but it was quickly cleared and had no impact on our enjoyment. We swam in the sea a few times and even if there was a bit of seaweed once you were a few metres out it was completely clear but stayed quite shallow. The beach is large and has plenty of sunbeds. We didn’t have any problem getting sunbeds found the pool or on the beach. We probably ventured down to the pool area about 8-9am and always found sunbeds. My son tried room service a couple of times and it was quick and tasty - handy on the day when it rained and he didn’t want to get wet heading to the lunch buffet. Over the road (5 mins walk) is a small selection of shops selling clothes, souvenirs, money exchange and day trips. There is also a Starbucks. We booked trips to Tulum, Coba and Xel-ha at the hut and they were friendly and helpful - we got a deal we were happy with and enjoyed our trips.…
Overall the hotel was amazing, people were phenomenal, food was delicious, and our trip was unforgettable. All Riu’s are great but there was something extra special about this particular one. It is definitely a place we will return to on our next holiday and one that we will recommend to friends and family.
Nothing was a problem anything I asked for was at the room within 20 minutes. Staff are excellent and work very hard, can't do enough for you. The food in all the restaurants was high quality and there was plenty of choice.
