Travelers' Choice
The Mahekal Beach Resort is a legendary resort village located on 800 feet of white sand beach in the heart of vibrant Playa del Carmen. It has 195 thatched roof, palapa-style bungalows within steps of Fifth Avenue, the celebrated entertainment, shopping, and restaurant district of Playa del Carmen. The thousands of loyal repeat guests at Mahekal Beach Resort describe it as magical, memorable, and authentically Yucatecan. Our style is friendly and relaxed, a unique Caribbean experience where you can rock gently in a hammock on your private terrace and enjoy undoubtedly the best beach in Playa. Our guests love the fact that we have never compromised our truly unique ambiance and style. In keeping with that style, our rooms do not offer televisions. Instead, they feature original, brightly colored, Mexican tile bathrooms, private terraces with hammocks for siestas and star gazing, and locally-crafted Mexican wood furniture in an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy our magical sanctuary. The Resort offers meal plans that include breakfast daily and lunch or dinner. This choice gives our guests the opportunity to explore the many dining options in Playa del Carmen.

We stayed the first week March, 2020 before COVID really hit. A great resort in so many ways. The 2 meal a day plan works great so you can sample some restaurants in town or if you do an excursion. It is my type of resort- medium sized with spaced-out huts/rooms. Never felt crowded. 3 different pools and it was always possible to find a chair or place to sit. I don't go for the super big/fancy resorts void of character. You can walk to town. Lots of excursions to do in the area-highly recommend Xel-Ha water park for the day. Loved the on-site pottery we could make. Staff were so kind and attentive at the restaurant (Rogelio and Dario were fantastic). My only suggestion would be to NOT stay on the beach front if you want peace and quiet. If you love people watching and don't mind noise until 11-12 every night, stay on the beach. Tucked back on the property among the trees would have been better for quiet.

We stayed here for our Honeymoon and it was the worst experience we ever made. The service was terrible rude and ignorant. For every problem I had to call 2-3 times. Our rooms were humid with a moldy smell and dirty. My wife had food poisoning after eating dinner at the Hotels restaurant. If you eat in the restaurants or order sth at the pool the staff keeps on begging for tipps. highly to be avoided !

This was our first time staying at this resort and we would definitely go back. The staff was excellent from the minute we arrived. In particular Angel was fantastic. The palapas add a special charm to the grounds. Food was very good, we loved all the fresh fruit and juices in the morning! My son and I took a diving lesson and then went on a dive which was one of the if not the coolest thing we have done. We would definitely recommend this resort and would stay there again. Thank you Mahekal for all the memories.

We stayed one week at Mahekal and were satisfied as usual, this was our third stay. The hotell is very good! We stayed in a Treehouse Palapa and the sorrundings around the room felt like a djungle - just perfect! We had breakfast and lunch at Fuego. The food is very good! And the service is even better, with Enrique, Moises, Antonio, Rene and Sergio.

Outstanding is my starting word! This was my second time visiting Mahekal and it was head and shoulders better than the first - they just keep getting better and better. The Management and Front Desk staff, every so gracious and accommodating. Never got tired of the genuine smiles and friendly service. The dinning was so good we didn't want to go into town. Olas, Jose, Nichoas, Jeremias, Andres, Kimberly, Juan, and Karen (my favorite) were all so good to us. Hats off to them! We felt special each and everyday!
