I went here in June 2022 with my 3 daughters (teen/young adult). We loved everything about this resort! Loved the small size, perfect palapa rooms, good food at the restaurants, great staff, and close to everything! It's a perfect place to just hang out on the beach or by the pool, spend some time wandering around Playa del Carmen, and swing in one of the hammocks on your balcony. The spa was also lovely! Kind of didn't want to write a review because we don't want anyone else to find this little gem!
My wife and I had an great stay at beautiful Mahekal Beach Resort. We arrive only hours after hurricane Zeta. They and a truck size generator powering the place due to power outage and staff of the resort did an amazing job with clean up. We we're lucky to have chosen a location prepared and ready to keep things open. Within a day you could hardly tell a storm went by. The restaurant had great food, but the attentive service was what made it special. They all knew our names and room within a day. They go above and beyond to make sure you are happy and enjoying every moment of your stay. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay. Rogelio and all the staff made it more than just a beautiful beach vacation. We'll remember the people as much as the place.
I stayed here for 5 nights as part of a longer trip through Mexico. The resort is right on the beach and also has several lovely pools. The accommodation was very comfortable and I really enjoyed sitting on my veranda and watching the wildlife. The food options were great and there was lots of choice. Staff members are very helpful and friendly. Altogether, a very relaxing stay and I can’t wait to visit again.

We especially would like to thank Yessica, Enrique, Luis, Eduardo, Kimberly, Emilia, Angel and Zuri for their great service and letting us feel special!! When in Mexico, visit Mahekal Beach Resort! In a nutshell: - the service is top notch - resort is clean - food at the restaurants is delicious - great location - beautiful beach We definitely go back!
The time there for our Holidays were amazing. You can eat very very nice food there, you have a beautiful privat beach and the Personal is very nice, kind and funny. Big thanks to Manuel, Barbosa and Jimmy and the hole other workers there !
We just experienced the revive spa for the first time while staying at the Mahekal Beach Resort. Where do I start- from Marco the receptionist to Marisol and Selene. They are the absolute best masseuses. I had the deep tissue massage, my fiancé had the Aloe Vera treatment massage, and my boys had the relaxing massages. We’ll be back for sure. Thank you all.
Beautiful resort with rustic accommodation. Helpful friendly caring staff, who want you to have a great holiday Stunning beach front and well maintained gardens, Good food with healthy or indulgent options. No drinks making facilities in rooms (kettle) Deliberately making you dependent on resort drinks always with tip requests attached. Tips are not mandatory but are very much in your face. A pressure causing discomfort we don’t want to “be made” to feel on holiday. We stayed here as a couple due close scuba diving. On arrival we were asked for a large holding deposit on a credit card ( this upset and caught out some guests). We loved our rustic accommodation (although it could be considered basic not luxurious ) within the jungle setting. Morning native birdsong was wonderful. Loud horrible thumping music pumping in from surrounding clubs was awful. We were offered alternative accommodation, but it was a downgraded in another less attractive part of 5he resort. THE WORST THING TIPS. We had opted for half board option. We were presented with a ticket at the end of every meal ( inc breakfast) with the cost of our half board meals broken down and showing on the bill with any extras added....Then came the tip section we were happy with their service we were presented with a tip option to pay 10% 15% or 20%. This percentage covered the half board meal we had already paid for when booking as well as extras we had consumed at the table( such as their expensive drinks). Never have I seen anything as cheeky as asking for a tip to cover a meal you had paid for when you booked the half board hotel option package. This was a joke. If you didn’t tip there was a horrible feeling when you left. Also the waiters ( who are lovely) are over the top, watching, over fussing around you, filling your glass after a sip of water etc. On the whole we had a lovely holiday. Loved the resort. We did have some tummy upsets. We can’t really blame our resort food. And the staff were caring when it happened. Also the chefs went out of their way by making us simple food during this time. It would be great if the management took away the intense tip pressure and relieve us holidaymakers and the staff who tend to try too hard, hence become over attentive and fussing. This isn’t relaxing. I would gladly tip if my choice at the end of the holiday. …
If you are looking for a resort that feels like a tropical island and not the uber modern glass and chrome that has taken over most of the resorts on the Riviera Maya, the Mahekal is for you. The grounds are kept pristine and the palapa styled casitas are more in keeping with traditional habitats for the area. There are plenty of palm trees on the beach to give shade. On this last visit we wre so pleased that the local govt has taken steps to reduce the sargazza by capturing it off the coast. Its not perfect yet, but SO MUCH BETTER. We had clear water again. I can't say enough about the friendliness of the staff. Everyone is helpful, respectful and seem truly happy in their jobs. We are already planning our next trip.
If you’re looking for 5 Diamond property with gold and marble floors and butler service, this is not the property for you. If you’re looking for a beach front, boho, raw and convenient location to 5th Avenue and activities then look no further, Mahekal is the place for you. This property caters to families and couples, But please be aware there is a few things to keep in mind before booking: If you get a beach front room, there is no privacy- room is loud at night due to the beach waves sounds and public beach right in front of the room. You will have people partying all night. But just to highlight! It’s safe, there is a security guard at all times and they don’t let people passed over private resort area. Housekeeper was Caty! She kept our room impecable was so honest and kind. Yes there is a seaweed problem but every morning there is a tractor that cleans the beach! They also have really nice pools in the resort as a substitute. The resort offers: Pottery paining Icecream shop Boutique Buffet Breakfast/ lunch restaurant Steak house Tequila tasting Daily activities Open available lounge areas Concierge can help to book tours Our biggest highlight of the entire stay was the Staff! Rogelio was our server for the entire stay, we request him every time since day one he show professional service, kind and attentive. He was so detailed and made our honeymoon so special! Please BOG SHOUT OUT to him. Thank you Rogelio from Joe and Cami.…
