We are here at the moment the hotel is nice and quiet and love that it’s adults only…yes there are areas that could do with an update….never a bed around the pool by 9am very limited pickings before 6am couldn’t believe this when I went to watch the sunset on my first day… food have not been to all of the restaurants yet but the Asian I did enjoy but didn’t like being put in what felt like a box this would be great if there were more than 2 people but felt very out of the way with no ambiance…Italian this I felt was a let down prosciutto ham very hard…lasagne very small with nothing with it, it could do with a salad or some green veg on the side so that it was balanced….spices Mexican food was tasty duck tacos were very nice…picana steak very nice but not very hot (Luke warm) and also would really like to see some sort of veg with it to make it balanced shrimp beautiful but again if I had this as a main course I would like to have something with it….very hard to book restaurants at a decent time whilst in resort … but restaurants are not busy so don’t understand this always have to wait for tables to be set up for 4 people but this is all pre booked so don’t understand why this isn’t done they know we are coming…we have a birthday whilst we are here and the restaurant that I booked a week in advance is now not available and I booked the hibachi table but no one told me now on Tuesday and cannot book this table for the rest of my holiday unless I want to eat at 6pm I will be here for the next 7 days…

Hotel's Favorite
This is our 4th time here and all I can say is that it keeps getting and better, basically what keeps us coming back is the service. The staff here knows what they are doing and they are on top of making guest feel like kings. The pool staff Genaro, Javier and Antonio don't ever let your glass get to empty. The drinks are well made and there is only premium alcohol, I dont ever worry about getting sick from off brands. The food is delicious our favorite restaurant this year was Ventanas ( you must make a reservation so that there is no waste but that's easy to do with your concierge). Milca and Brenda always made my mornings wonderful by having coffee and breakfast ready as soon as I got to the deck restaurant. I love how Milca takes her job serious and does so well reminding rude tourist to follow the rules this makes it so much more pleasant for the rest of us. We went to the SPA and the girls at the spa Jessica and Paula were wonderful I was so relaxed after that I honestly thought that I was sleep for 2hrs haha. The location is wonderful and close to town (10min walk). We did several activities with Mercedes and had a wonderful time. We are already planning our return in December.

We love it here. This is the first vacation since the pandemic and we didn't want to risk it. We were so pleased to see many of the same staff even though we hadn't been there in almost 3 years. The food was amazing.

We spent 11 nights in the Presedential Suite and we were a bit apprehensive about it having read a poor review on here about 1 week before we arrived. However, it looks like the hotel took note of the poor review because the suite was clean, tidy and very well furnished. Yes, the AC was a bit noisy but we found we filtered it out and slept very well in the enormous bed. We spent most days by the main pool and we want to thank Antonio and the other pool staff for looking after us so well. They were always around to refresh our drinks and offer light snacks. In fact, the staff throughout the resort were excellent - very friendly and efficient. If we ever return to the area, we will have no hesitation in returning to the Royal Hideaway Playacar

We are currently here. Every other time I order a drink they have run out. Passing off cheap liquor off as top self is not exceptibele at this price point. Booking dinner reservations befor 9:00 is a total chore. If we get a 6:00 reservation the restaurants are empty. We are totally disappointed. 😞 We came last year and loved it. This year brought 7 couples with us who are all disappointed as well. We will never be back.

Our honeymoon was exquisite because of this resort- it is quaint and perfectly staffed. Rocio Mendez is the most wonderful bartender and person, I hope we stay friends long past our trip. The food is a giant leap above regular all inclusive resorts, we will definitely be back!

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Royal Hideaway Playacar. The short review is this: Do not worry about anything! Everything was fantastic! If you are looking for a party resort with a swim up bar and lots of nightlife, this is NOT the resort for you. There are plenty of other resorts in the area to suit your needs. If you are looking for an adult only resort that is a quiet place to relax and recharge-this is it! This was exactly what we were looking for and it was heaven. Now for the longer review: The resort is located in a quiet gated community. We felt very safe and talked to several other guests that had gone walking in the community and to the shopping area right outside the gates. This was a lazy trip for us and we never left the resort. The tranquility begins as soon as you drive up to the beautiful entrance. We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine. Check in was friendly and speedy. You will fill out a little paperwork and give them your credit card for any room charges and a daily tax. We had a flight delay and only arrived 30 minutes before our dinner reservation. We were checked in promptly and escorted to our room. We arrived to dinner with time to spare. The resort consists of just 201 rooms divided among 11 stand alone villas. This adds to the quiet intimate feel of the resort. Every guest is welcome to use all of the pools and facilities. There is no feeling of “The haves and have nots”. No wrist bands, no areas for different groups depending on what room you booked. Everything at the resort is easily accessible and you can reach any restaurant or pool in 5 min or less. The landscaping is beautiful and immaculately maintained. We stayed in a luxury garden view room. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning very cool and the hot water very hot. There is a large walk in closet with a safe. There is a separate shower, jacuzzi and double sink. The only problem we had with our room was the mini fridge did not keep anything cool. The resort replaced it quickly when we asked but the replacement fridge did not keep anything cool either. No big deal, we used the bottled water anyway. We were only in our room to shower and sleep. Who wants to stay in their room with such a beautiful pool and beach for lounging? When we return I will pack a small umbrella. We were told there would be an umbrella in our room so I did not pack one. There was not an umbrella in our room but a kind employee took one from the lobby to give to me. Room service is included, we did not use it so I cannot comment on that service. There are two large pools by the beach and several small pools scattered throughout the resort. The beach side pools have food and beverage service. There was music playing in the afternoon at the pool but it was at a reasonable volume. No one was listening to their own music on phones or radios and I do not think that would be welcomed. There are lots of comfortable pool loungers. To get a prime spot you will need to get there early. We picked our seats around 7:00 AM. There were loungers available throughout the day but the ones with umbrellas go quickly. I would like to see the resort add a few more umbrellas. Smoking is allowed at the pool but for the most part people were polite and got up and walked away to smoke. There is a fantastic water aerobics class everyday that is a lot of fun to watch even if you are not participating. You can pack pool floats to use if you like. We packed tumblers with straws and it was the best thing we packed. The bartenders will fill your tumblers and it will keep your drinks cool until you are ready for a refill. The beach is beautiful! There were always lots of beach chairs available. They are arranged in pairs with a cover you can pull up for shade. The water quality was excellent while we were there with very little seaweed. There are vendors that are not associated with the resort that will approach you on the beach. If you are not interested in what they are selling just say No Thank You and they will politely go away. There are 5 restaurants. We emailed the resort one week before our arrival to book our dinner reservations. I received a confirmation the same day with our dinner schedule for the week. I just gave them a time frame we wanted, how many people and asked to try each restaurant once. You do not need a reservation for breakfast or lunch. Email for dinner reservations is playacar.gem@barcelo.com. We ate breakfast at The Deck buffet each day and found it very good. There is standard breakfast items and something different everyday for those who are more adventurous. You can also have breakfast at Spices which is just upstairs from The Deck. We heard Spices was very good for breakfast but we did not try it. We had lunch everyday at The Deck as well. Buffet items and food from the menu were very good. I highly recommend the spring rolls. We ate at all 5 restaurants for dinner. Overall I will say that we enjoyed the courses leading up to the main entree more than we liked the main entree. That said, we enjoyed something at every meal. Everyone is different and I learned from asking for suggestions that everyone will have a favorite restaurant and one that they did not enjoy as much. There are dress codes for each restaurant. This information is everywhere; on the website, on your reservation, on Facebook. This should not be a surprise. Men will need pants (not jeans) and closed toed shoes. The dress codes are enforced. We liked this. Dressing up for dinner adds to the elegance of the resort. The Deck turns into The Grill for dinner. The Grill is an open air restaurant with a wide array of fish, steak and lamb. The ravioli I had at The Grill was one of the best I have ever had. My husband and I both got the mixed grill and did not like it. We fed our steak scraps to a dog on the beach who thought it was delicious. Azia offers a variety of Thai cuisine. There is hibachi if you like that, we felt it took away from the atmosphere for the rest of the restaurant. The sushi was excellent. Spring rolls were good. Soup was way too spicy for me and I found the Pad Thai just so so. We have excellent Thai food in our home town so it was hard for me to compare to that. Palazzo is Italian cuisine. It is a very pretty, elegant restaurant. I enjoyed the lasagna and the minestrone. Spices is Mexican inspired. Everything we had was good. The crab tacos were delicious, one of my favorite things I ate at the resort. I also had the best dessert here. Ventanas is considered the resorts “gourmet” restaurant. I had the scallop salad, crab ravioli, and the steak filets. This was the best beef I had at the resort. Overall the food is good for an all inclusive and it is a great opportunity to try new things. After dinner we spent the evening at the bar below Ventanas. Many guests seem to end up here in the evening. There are TVs, games, a pool table and music. We met so many people of all ages from all over the world. The resort basically shuts down at 11:00. If you are looking for rambunctious nightlife you will not find it here. We love the quiet so it was perfect for us. I think there are some shows on certain nights but we did not make those. A mariachi band played at the bar one night and they were fantastic. Last but certainly not least- The staff here are incredible hard working people. Everyone is friendly and does everything they can to make your stay more enjoyable. TIP THEM! Yes the resort is an all inclusive but this does not include tips. Everyone tips differently, tip what you can and how you want but TIP! Our stay at Royal Hideaway was just what we needed. We can’t wait to come back! On a side note we used USA transfers for our transportation to and from the airport to the resort. They were friendly and on time and the vehicles were clean. The Mexico airport- There was a long line to get through immigration but it moved quickly and our luggage was waiting for us on the other side. Just put your head down and get through all of the people yelling at you for a time share pitch or transportation. Once outside you will find your transportation service. Our airline told us we would need to wear a mask in the airport but no one seemed to be doing that upon arrival. Upon departure we were required to put on a mask before they would let us on the escalator after checking our bags. Once upstairs there are constant announcements about wearing a mask but very few people were wearing one. We did not pay the Visitax and were not asked about it.

This was our 7th time here in the past 8 years, only missing the year they were closed for Covid. The staff here is second to none, and we will be returning again next year for sure. If you are looking for a laid back, adults only resort this is the place for you! Thanks again to all of our Royal Hideaway family but a special thank you to Javier, Luis, and Karla for going above and beyond!

This is our second visit to the resort, and it’s been 4 years since our first. Time wears on us all, and this resort is no exception. First, I would like to preface this review with the fact that the staff are amazing! Edith, our concierge was always pleasant and helpful. She helped in anyway she could. We found a lovely spot at one of the relaxing pools and camped out there every day and we meet an amazing couple from the UK! Antonio was our waiter for pool drink service and he was on top of things and kept us fully hydrated so we could relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the lesser pools. All of the staff was always saying hello and provided top notch service at all times. Couldn’t ask for better. However, the biggest difference after 4 years apart is noticing how “tired” the resort looks. Our rooms, while nice, are starting to show their age. Shoddy paint and patches on walls and ceilings. Some of the tiles in the shower and around the tub were cracked. The jacuzzi tub looking worse for wear. The AC in the room was cool for the most part but we did have to have it looked at the second day here. The curtains and linens are in need of an update and the curtains themselves were partially broken. The door was the biggest notice, especially late at night when the light from the outside would creep in. It also allowed a few bugs to make their way into the room. We have heard that they will start working on the rooms soon and “remodeling” them, but from what we gathered that only means more paint and patches. No new furniture, tile, or linens. Overall this is a very nice resort still: the food is good, the rooms clean, and the service is outstanding. This resort is classified as a 5 star resort and I felt they deserved that the first visit, but maybe not anymore.

RHP is one of the best resorts we have visited. The service was excellent and everyone was so nice. Always a smile on their faces. The spa services were above and beyond thanks to Lucia and Juliana. Highly recommend asking for these two ladies if you get a massage. Food quality is excellent and had a good variety of items on all the menus. I’m a foodie but my husband isn’t so it was a little harder for him to find something that didn’t have weird ingredients or odd combinations, but he never went hungry. ;) Very chill vibe around the resort so if you’re looking for a party place then this isn’t it. Shout out to our concierge Lorena. She made our stay special for sure. Playacar itself is a wonderful community with lots of opportunity to get out and about from the resort. Quick 150 pesos taxi ride over the 5th Ave. I would definitely return to this hotel.
