We were fortunate enough to stay in Casa del Secreto August 14-21. There were 12 of us total in the home. We were in constant contact with Oscar who made sure that our every question or need was answered and accommodated very quickly. No detail was left unattended. We met Doy Cooper, the owner on our 3rd day there, and she made every attempt to make us feel welcomed and special. She organized a bonfire for all of the guests one evening that was fantastic, especially for the kids. It was nice to meet the others who were staying close close by. That evening, we also got the special treat of returning a baby turtle to the ocean that they had rescued and rehydrated a few days before. If that wasn't amazing enough, that same night a mama turtle came up on the beach to nest and lay her eggs. We watched every minute of it.
Our home was spacious, comfortable and beautiful. The beach, just steps from our door was quiet and beautiful The staff cleaned any seaweed daily. The meals we ordered were absolutely perfect and an elegant and relaxing end to long days. Not a complaint from any of us.
One more thing I should add but in no way want it to be the headline of this review is that we were there during Hurricane Grace. (Category One) EVERY precaution was taken for our safety from boarding up all the windows to providing towels, etc to block any water that might have come in. They provided flashlights and candles in the event we lost power and had meetings with us to let us know what to expect. We had a walkie talkie so we could be in constant communication if necessary. Sadly, our Villa sustained some damage and the power was out so we did leave to a hotel for our last few days, but they did offer us another home before we made that decision. Unfortunately It just wasn't feasible for our group (ages 1-56)
We have already told many of our friends that they need to go there with their families.
Thank you, Doy for creating this wonderful alternative to the typical Air B and B and status quo hotels. We consider ourselves #haciendians !

This is a beautiful place! The house is amazing and right on the beach. We had a incredible time there.
The only draw back is if you want to leave the house you have to arrange transportation and everything is 30 minutes away, a cab (that they arrange )will cost 50 to 75 each way. Or you can arrange for a driver with a van for about 350 a day.
They have a kitchen on sight where you have the opportunity to do a meal plan ( not all inclusive) or pay as you go. This can become expensive and you don’t know what it is till you leave.
We loved our time there but probably would not return.

Hi Tommq, Thank you for your review of your stay with us at Hacienda del Secreto! We are really pleased that you enjoyed your time with us! Guests indeed need to schedule transport to leave our resort, but that in our eyes is one of the benefits of staying at HDS- true seclusion, privacy and zero crowds! We hope you change your mind and indeed, return to stay with us again! We loved having you all! Cheers, HDS

Hacienda del Secreto was a true paradise! The owner Doy and her sister Cher were so gracious and attentive to every need. The food was over the top delicious and fresh. Seafood is fresh caught daily. The villas each have their own pool and range in size with beautiful decor that matches the location. The beach is literally 10 feet from your door with gorgous water and you can listen to the waves at night. My favorite villas is Secreto with panoramic views in the master bedroom. They can arrange all activities, including dining on the beach, mariachis, excursions, weddings and full buy out of all villas, plus more. The staff is what makes this place feel like home. Omar and Oscar are the best! I have been to RM too many times to count and would book HDS over many other properties. In addition, you have privacy and it is only 20 minutes from the airport! Thank you again for a memorable stay!

Playa del Secreto and specifically Casa Tortuga was a nice stay but…it is far away from a town so if you don’t have a car rental you are on your own to get groceries. At check out to pay the tip you must have cash and they give you a letter suggesting us$250/night. We had a very difficult time with this and find that we turista are the ones paying the bulk of wages to the staff. The staff was very nice and Oscar the main caretaker did a great job. I We spent about 20 minutes cleaning the beach area which had a lot of plastic debris and filled a large bag. We spent about 20 minutes cleaning the beach area which had a lot of plastic debris and filled a large bag. I don’t think I would book this place again. The value for the money is not there.

Dear Guest, I am so very disappointed that your stay was not an excellent one at Villa Tortuga. Yes, Villa Tortuga, as you mentioned is not in the main compound but is less than 200 yards down the beach from the main HDS compound, The location of Villa Tortuga is well documented on all information and all guests interested in renting Villa Tortuga are always informed of the location of the villa as you were. I would also like to correct your statement about the staff tip. The suggested staff tip that was given to you in a printed letter for Villa Tortuga is $250 usd for a 7 night stay for a party of 6 people, it is NOT PER NIGHT. I understand that you left our staff a very nice tip. We will gladly reimburse you that tip considering you misread the suggested tip amount. Please let me know how much you would like to be reimbursed. Our services are not the standard services of a vacation rental, we very much exceed the normal expectations of a vacation rental. The housekeepers enter the villa quietly first thing in the morning to check and tidy up the kitchen and the terrace. They return for a 2nd time to do the complete cleaning of the villa at the time a guest specifies they wish the cleaning service daily. They return a 3rd time to do a Courtesy Turn Down Service in the bedrooms and refresh towels if necessary. The staff tip is split between 23 employees; from the girl in the laundry room, the gardener and others that never gets face time with guests...to all employees including Oscar in guest services. 100% of all tips go to the staff. Without any exaggeration, the majority of our guests leave the staff more than the suggested tip because they are so impressed with the service of our staff. The villa vacation industry's customary tip is actually 5% of the rental amount. Also, please know that the staff of HDS are very well paid. We also provide all of the employee benefits required by the law and other benefits that are not required by the law. It is unfortunate that when we have rough seas, we do get some times trash washed up on to the beach. The beach areas in front of Villa Tortuga and the HDS compound are always cleaned daily. Our staff cannot clean the entire 1 + mile beach daily, all though we have organized complete beach clean ups in the past when we and other neighbors can spare an employee or employees for a complete beach clean up. Thank you for contributing to reducing the trash foot print on our beach /earth during your stay. Again, it does sadden me that your experience here was not an excellent one. The staff and I always strive for only organic and real 5 star reviews. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and blessed new year. Kindest Regards, Doy Cooper

We spent 4 glorious nights in this 5 star, private resort located on a “secret beach” on the Mayan Riviera. It was not long enough so I highly recommend a full week! These beachfront villas do not disappoint. Each villa has a private pool, impeccably kept grounds, beautiful artwork throughout reflecting the area’s culture, full service delicious meals and a staff that is second to none!! We enjoyed a lobster & steak dinner set up in the sand by the ocean and romantically lit up with tiki torches and the moon. We watched the fishermen literally bring the fresh, live lobster to the cooks. I can’t say enough about this beautiful piece of paradise. We are hooked and will be returning for many visits in the future!

We just returned from a 5 night stay at this resort. It exceeded all of our expectations. The entire staff was amazing. The facilities were clean with beautiful views, and the staff would be in/out throughout the day to organize/clean up after us. We made some meals ourselves in our fully stocked kitchen, but you can also order food through their staff. There were 8 of us and we all tried various meals off the menu, everything was fantastic! Security was friendly and aware of everything going on at all times. The owner, Doylene, was sweet as pie (as were her ridgebacks). We would text her or our concierge, and have what we needed almost immediately. We were there to party with friends and they accommodated a large group around a fire pit on the beach (with s’mores), as well as setup a football playoff watch party in the main lobby. Pretty sure they never told us no to any ask. It’s also kid friendly. The lobby had a pool table and foosball. There’s a sand volleyball court on your way to the private beach, and every villa has its own pool! We cannot wait to go back!

My husband and I visited Hacienda Del Secreto on a business conference and it was fabulous! Our group occupied all of the villas and we moved freely between all of them, visiting, using the gorgeous pools, and sitting on the patios enjoying the views of the beautiful Gulf. Our meetings were in a palapa with (of course) a view of the water and palm trees and beach and we gathered for meals and parties in a great common area. Every villa was perfectly appointed with every one of our needs met. This property is spotless and the staff is friendly, efficient, and eager to assist.
Our business group meets at least twice a year and this was the best I have attended in 20 years. Hacienda Del Secreto is a perfect place for a small conference, lots of places to sit and talk, have a drink, eat (the food is wonderful), and connect.
Can’t wait to return

Hard to put into words how great this experience was. From the first communication, Hacienda del Secreto's team was responsive, professional, flexible and accommodating. The trip only got better from there as the level of service on property was outstanding. On-demand ordering of food, drinks, transportation, rental cars, services, and activities was made easy by their responsive and reliable team. The property itself is exceptionally beautiful and very well maintained. With the ability to rent one house or book the entire compound for a full buyout, this is a place we will return to for years to come. Side note: We were lucky enough to run into the property owner onsite and her story is amazing, what an incredible destination she's built! Can't wait to book our next stay :)

We spent seven nights at Hacienda del Secreto as guests at our niece’s wedding in October 2023. We had the whole resort to ourselves for the wedding weekend, and that was just what the bridal couple wanted – a chance to spend time celebrating with their friends and families.
The wedding on the platform outside the Butterfly Pavilion was lovely, and the other events (welcome reception, bridesmaids’ luncheon, rehearsal dinner, dinner/dancing reception) were perfect for all ages – from the Millennial couple and their friends to Gen X and Boomer relatives. The food was delicious and varied; every meal was well beyond satisfactory, and most dishes were exceptional. The staff service was impeccable from sweet and hardworking servers, attentive manager, and diligent housekeepers. We also felt perfectly safe in the villas because of the security provided. As far as we could tell as guests, every detail was taken care of.
My husband and I stayed in the front room on the second floor of Casa del Secreto and had a breathtaking sunrise view over the ocean. The room was comfortable and well furnished with a private balcony on one side and access to the shared balcony on the other. The bed was too high for me to get into easily (I am less than 5 feet tall), and after my husband and I asked a few times, the staff found a step stool for me. I appreciated that. The bathroom was clean, roomy, and well stocked with good, thick towels, a carafe of potable water, and toiletries. The water in the shower was slow to warm but got plenty hot. We made coffee in the kitchen every morning, and I appreciated that the hosts provided plenty of coffee, filters, and potable water in a bottle. The staff kept everything clean and neat. The villa was right on the beach and also had a pool. We had nothing to do but relax and enjoy our time in a beautiful spot.

The staff could not have been more accomodating! The beautiful house was spottless, and kept that way all week despite our large group. The food was delicious. The food service staff (especially Angel and Josmar) always had huge smiles and provided superb service. We were so lucky with gorgeous weather all week. The few days where we had seaweed issues did not bother us -- just swim out a tiny bit and you won't notice it. Whenever we wanted to venture out, either Nestor or the security staff were able to provide transportation for us. Truly this was a magical week to celebrate a big birthday.
