Nestled in a location celebrated for its beauty and convenience, The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences offers spacious rooms amid a vibrant atmosphere resonating with live music and entertainment. While guests have called out the friendly and professional service, some have experienced slow service and reservation hiccups. Reviewers warn of musty smells and maintenance issues in rooms, challenging the hotel's value with concerns over additional charges and the authenticity of the all-inclusive experience. However, the hotel's varied amenities and dedication to cleanliness earn rave reviews, despite occasional housekeeping inconsistencies.

Amazing experience throughout. Our friends were staying at The Fives Downtown, who even after having a confirmation and room booked, said they couldn't accommodate us there. They sent us here which was a very uncertain start to a 5 day trip. It ended up being absolutely amazing. Special shoutout to Stephanie at front desk who was far more sympathetic than they were at Fives Downtown and who greeted us and made us feel welcome. Amazing service throughout. Special shoutout to Rafael at the buffet, Aime at Mestizo and Erik at the cab stand who could not have been nicer and more helpful. William Hernandez and Domingo our bartenders were amazing throughout as well, I cannot thank them enough for making us feel at home and getting us through one rainy day without feeling bored. We will 100% be back.

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed at The Fives Beachfront from Feb. 23 to March 3, and we could not be happier. We booked Deluxe AI (all inclusive). My husband and I went with another couple. We booked via Air Transat (so our flights, shuttle to / from airport and our stay were all in a package together). We arrived around 10 p.m. on Feb. 23, and we did not like our room (Building 18, in the ‘new’ section). It was on the top floor, and the AC did not work – I’m Canadian, I need it to be cold to sleep 😉. As well, because we had no AC, the unit on the roof above us was obviously struggling, and the noise was so loud, I didn’t sleep. The next morning, my husband went to the front desk and spoke with Alejandro. He said to enjoy ourselves and he’d put us in a new room (Building 7, in the ‘old’ section). The new room wasn’t available until 3 p.m., so he asked us to pack up our luggage and leave in our old room, for the bellhop to bring to grab, put in storage until our new room was ready later. Our new room was perfect! It had a nice patio (that faced the next building, but you could see the pool area that connected the Lizzard pool to the children’s area), it had two double beds (I would have preferred a king, but the doubles were perfect), the large entryway had double sinks, shower was great (rain shower head and detachable sprayer thingy), and the room was COLD. The dream! Alejandro did us well!! We dined at the a la cartes every evening. We went to the Sea Olive, Koh Thai, La Brasserie and Arezzo. The Thai was our favourite, so we went twice! The first time was chicken and beef skewers with peanut sauce and grilled pineapple, and spring rolls for our appetizers, and chicken fried rice and pad Thai for our mains. The second time, we had the same appies and the chicken / yellow curry noodle dish and the beef stir fry – DROOL! No room for dessert LOL! La Brasserie was excellent – I had foie gras and soupe a l’oignon, my husband had the scallops and escargot for appetizers and for our mains, I had the beef filet, and my husband had the braised lamb. For dessert we had crème brulee and pears in the red wine reduction. The Sea Olive was so good too, but my memory is a bit hazy (tequila, am I right?). My husband had the braised beef (so tender and fell off the bone), and I had a chicken skewer thing (again, hazy memory) they were both SO delicious! Our friends had the shrimp ceviche and said it was the best thing they’ve ever had (I don’t remember their mains LOL). Arezzo was also really great – get the risotto – we had it, mushroom soup, lamb and beef. The service was excellent, but because there are floor-to-ceiling windows at the Italian restaurant, it was pretty warm while the sun was setting (dress accordingly). We ate breakfast typically at La Brasserie (buffet) and on the other days went to Flavours (buffet). Both offered a lot of variety and staff are attentive. I have a shellfish allergy, and I never once worried about having a reaction – the staff are very well-educated on what to recommend ensuring no contamination (our waiter at the Italian restaurant recommended nothing that was fried because they use the fryer with shellfish – even tho I have never had a serious reaction from a fryer). We did the spa one day (hydrotherapy and couples massage with hot stones). It was the greatest way to relax. I was a zombie afterwards and we slept for 10 hours after. My husband had Adrianna as his RMT, and I had Betty. I requested ‘medium’ pressure because I typically have deep-tissue massages to release muscles and I wanted to relax. Our last night we booked Casa de Rosa and it is an experience! We loved it! It starts with a welcome drink, then tequila and mezcal tasting (including a history on the different kinds of tequila and production methods), then a little snack of crickets – that’s right, crickets! We played the name game (APACHE!!). Then we prepared our meal together in the traditional way. We made handmade tortillas, grouper, taco fillings and guacamole. Then we ate together – the ‘New’ Rosa is so fun and hilarious! (Our evening at Casa de Rosa was interrupted by a disgruntled woman whose ‘artisanal’ stroller broke and she wanted to complain to any staff member, and it just so happened to be our Rosa. It happened in the middle of the tequila tasting. Rosa handled it with grace and managed to keep us all entertained. We were ALL Team Rosa in this instance, and in the end, we all shared a laugh together at the woman who was clueless to the fact that she was interrupting our evening). Also, the smell of the lobby is intoxicating. Only downsides, but this is no reflection of the resort or the staff: I hate the towel game. I don’t want to play the towel game, and I understand why people get up early, to go save their spots by a pool / beach. But it becomes unreasonable. Guests monopolize chairs for hours and it’s – frankly – annoying. We managed to find two empty chairs by the Lizard pool one morning at 9:30 a.m., and there were four chairs with towels on them on the opposite side of the pool. We stayed there until 2 p.m. and never saw the people across the way. There should be a way to police that, but I have no idea how (the way someone issues parking tickets, people should have their towels taken away from chairs if no one is there after two hours). In summary: Room: 9/10. Only because our first night in our first room was dreadful with no AC, the rest of the stay was a solid 10/10). Staff: 10/10. All the staff are so kind, friendly, accommodating and fun (shout out to Alejandro at the front desk) Spa: 10/10. Casa de Rosa: 10/10. Food: 10/10. Overall experience: 10/10. We can't wait to go back and as soon as we can, we will rebook for 2024!

I couldn’t find any faults during my recent stay!! The Fives resort is a true paradise with its luscious landscaping and wildlife, that added a touch of serenity to the surroundings. My granddaughter's favorite treat was indulging in ice cream at the plaza to cool off after a refreshing swim. It was the perfect way for her to enjoy a sweet treat and beat the heat during our stay. As for me, I found pure bliss in my daily yoga classes on the rooftop terrace, overlooking the breathtaking views. Kate, the talented yoga instructor from NRG2GO, led each session with professionalism and expertise, making each class a rejuvenating and unforgettable experience. The Fives truly offers a perfect blend of relaxation, gourmet dining, and memorable activities for guests of all ages

The Fives resort exceeded all expectations Our family loved the dining options. Arezzo and Koh Thai truly stood out with their delectable menus. Juan at Arezzo made our meals at Arezzo even more of an experience. The grounds of the resort were impeccably maintained, adding to the overall charm of the resort. One of the highlights of my stay was the yoga classes led by NRG2GO yoga instructor Kate. Starting my day with her invigorating sessions was truly a beautiful way to kickstart my vacation experience. Kate's expertise and calming presence made each session memorable and rejuvenating. Raul, the bartender at the plaza, added a delightful touch to the evenings with his skillful mixology and friendly demeanor. My daughter, on the other hand, was thrilled to see the diverse wildlife on the resort grounds, adding an element of excitement and wonder to her stay. The Fives truly offers a perfect blend of luxury, relaxation, and memorable experiences for guests of all ages!

As someone who’s a travel advisor and used to staying at high quality properties around the world, this place wasn’t for us. For someone looking for a value and lower price point vacation or someone who hasn’t travelled much I can definitely see the appeal. We came here for a wedding and the wedding experience of the trip was good as a guest. Beautiful location but the AV equipment malfunctioned during the ceremony which made me sad for our friends the bride and groom (they moved their reception location without giving them a heads up) and as a guest they served me a dessert with nuts even though I’m allergic and confirmed with them ahead of time. If my husband and I were here on our own we would’ve left early and asked for a refund. Photo attached of our room, bed on plywood and shower falling apart. Our room had no hot water for 3/4 days, we called maintenance to fix it and they couldn’t figure it out. A friend of ours did leave 2 days early due to no hot water in his penthouse as well. Our room was serviced on 2 occasions and they left no new towels and left all used towels on the floor. No new body wash etc either. We ordered popcorn from room service and it was an un-popped microwaveable bag, we don’t have a microwave?? No basics in the room let alone details - no robes, no full length mirror, no do not disturb sign so housekeeping woke us up. Towel keys and chairs are a disaster. Negotiate a Bali bed, it’s worth it so your stuff isn’t moved if you want to go get lunch or actually swim. We saw multiple people’s belongings moved every day. Finally, they just don’t have enough room in restaurants for the guests. We have the all inclusive package and were told the Thai was too full for us for the night, but if we bought a bottle of wine off their menu they would give us a table.

All looks, no substance - the hotel looks grand but lacks service and management. First, even though it says all inclusive - you will have to pay for premium services, including for butterscotch ice cream. Been to many all inclusive and this is the first where even getting a beach chair/bed costs you. Second, the management of the resort is terrible. We had a leak in our room, called hotel services and made multiple visits to complain to the front desk for 3 days - they would type up our complaint and tell us they are at 98% capacity. Finally we demanded a new room, and Eduardo made us check out of our room at 11am so we could get a new room but we didn’t end up getting one until 3pm after breaking down and yelling at front desk. He wouldn’t even tell us when, or give us a temporary room - the wedding was at 4pm which we had said in the morning and after multiple check ins on status of the room. We finally got the room when the real manager came out of her office due to the raised voices - I broke down - the stress and lack of service or even professionalism is enough for me to never recommend this place. If you have any issues, they won’t resolve it and you will spend much of your vacation having to follow up with them. And if you get Angel or Eduardo - they make you feel like you are bothering them where they don’t even make eye contact when speaking with you. The restaurants are first come, first serve but even when you get there at 5pm, it’s always an hour or so wait. I felt terrible for parents who had to wait with kids and for the staff. Some tables were empty and when we asked why - it was because the kitchen was so backed up - they couldn’t sit all the tables. This is where management is lacking - if they knew they were at 98% capacity, why didn’t they add more staff to the restaurants or cleaners. They worked so hard from start to finish but it’s the management of this resort that is in serious work - everything feels like a money grab and constant follow ups. If you have any issues, this resort won’t help you. Spend your time and money on an actual all inclusive!

The rooms were clean, the food well prepared, although the fridge could have been colder and the shower warmer (first world problem), but what makes this a five star experience was the staff, from the front desk to the restaurants there was always a positive and sincere feeling. Humberto served us at our Cabana on the beach front and his attention to our needs and his friendly advice on exploring outside the resort made this an amazing experience. This is a place we will return to.

Wedding review - Same sex couple Date: Departure January 21st from Montreal with Air Transat 25 people total - all adults - from 25 y/o to 80 y/o. Review done by someone that English is not his first language 🤞 After booking with our travel agent, we had our first contact with Ivan Sanchez from Wedding sales. Ivan was super professional and helpful. His emails were clear and we had all the information we needed to be able to choose our wedding package. Wedding planner website: When you confirm your package, you get access to the wedding planner website with your own username and password. Honestly, this is super user friendly and well structured. You have all your information and you see what your wedding planner is adding to your account. I was impressed by that. Wedding planner: We had the lovely Itxel Lobera as our wedding planner. I am not sure which words to use for this review about Itxel because she was more than great, she was THE ONE that made our big day the dream that we were hoping for. She is super professional, friendly and helpful. At the beginning beginning, I felt the delay in replying to my email was not as quick as I would have wished for but honestly, we need to trust the process and trust the wedding planners. Everything was on point and all the small details we could have emailed about were done. She was super patient with us since we probably emailed a thousand times for information or quotes. We had the chance to meet her months before our wedding for a tour of the hotel and menu tasting. We were welcomed as royalty. She ate with us, was interested in knowing us and made sure we had no doubts before leaving. Itxel was present at the ceremony and even made sure the set up for the reception was as discussed. She was 110% involved in our wedding from the beginning to the end and I cannot thank her more for that. I know this is your job, but still, we felt we were The One that day. Even days after the wedding, I sent her a text because I wanted to visit the Fives Downtown. We ended up visiting this hotel accompanied by the general manager of the hotel. Cheers my dear Itxel Room: We booked the regular deluxe room and we had the chance to be upgraded with no charge to a penthouse. We had the penthouse 0124-1 in building 1 for 13 nights. The penthouse is great and huge. The only thing is, no complaints, but I realised week #2 after all our guests were gone that this is too close to the main plaza and lobby if you want to go to bed early 😅. I felt the party was next to my bed. We could have asked to be moved, but after a week, we didn't want to pack. This is not a complaint, just a comment :) Some of our guests paid for an upgrade to a penthouse and even for the Fives ocean view section. They all loved it. Wedding coordinator: We had Mar & Barbi. Both of them are lovely and professional. They reviewed with us everything that was ''booked'' with Ixtel and made sure the planning was as we wished. It was easy to text with them and they were present and involved during all the Big day. Everything went smoothly and I have only good words for them. Ceremony: Our ceremony was at the beach front gazebo. We did not really spend money for decoration because in our opinion, we were there only 30-45 minutes compared to the reception. The location is nice and you have the view of the ocean. The celebrant was great and super dynamique. The only thing I would change is, trying to get the text in French ahead since the groomsmen needed to translate live and it was not as fluent as we were hoping (the celebrant gave him a print copy so I guess we could have translated everything before). But still, songs were played as we wanted and the parrot was the special touch of the moment. Reception: Our reception was on the wedding sky deck. This place is gorgeous and our set up was as we were dreaming of. Obviously, this is our preference but the team nailed it. It was like in the movies. We did all the arrangements with the hotel, meaning the tables, the chairs, the flowers, dj .. everything. The head server during the reception was Rodrigo. Honestly, he nailed it. He knows his job and he is a great team leader. All of our guests were out of words when they were serving our meals. There were several servers and they were putting the plates down on the tables all at the same time. We felt like being served at Buckingham palace. Thanks to Rodrigo and all the staff. Restaurants: In my opinion, the food at The Fives is just Wow. Great products!. Unfortunately, I do not have the names but the head server at the oka sushi was super friendly. Our servers at the Italian restaurant were perfect. Thank you to Christian and the chef Roberto, romantic dinner on the beach. Christian has a really nice personality and the chef Roberto was 5 stars. Also Daniel and Juan (I think), they served us the first night during our rehearsal dinner/birthday dinner. We even asked for you for our wedding but it was your day off. Animation: Thanks to Johanna for the animation. You obviously work long hours, but you always smile and it was great to meet you. :) I could continue and continue, but I cannot recommend enough the Fives beach hotel and residence for your wedding. We put money down but we got the service we were expecting. We are more than satisfied and even after 3 weeks back home, our guests are still dreaming of their vacation. Looking forward to seeing you all again and we are definitely interested in trying the Fives in Puerto Morelos as well. Mathieu and Dany - Montreal Canada

We enjoyed a pleasant vacation here. This was our sixth 5-star resort that we have been to in Mexico and I would give this one a solid 4 Stars. The grounds are 5 star. The rooms very large and clean in Bldg 18 - 5 star. The staff are superb! - 5 star. The buffet was disappointing - 3 star. I found most items saturated in butter and salt, generally just really poor quality. We are coffee drinkers and this is the first resort with absolute crap for coffee. There is a coffee shop in the main area BUT you have to pay for it. Ditto the ice cream place, that's not included either. I did track down a decent latte at the French restaurant that was included in the AI, so that was what we drank for the duration. We ate at the French restaurant (decent), the Thai restaurant (pass) and the Italian restaurant (very good). The beach has loads of chairs and shade options. The beautiful pool outside of our bldg 18 was NOT for our use.... it was for 'residents & members' only. My mom and I (age 59 & 82) set up there on day one and we were very nicely asked to leave by a uniformed employee. No where on the pool sign did it state "not for AI use", so that was embarrassing. The saving grace from that debacle was the Friday night Mexican Night. It was very impressive how they transformed the entire main area for this event. The employees here really do appear to love their job and are always courteous. The wild life and eco part of this resort is really cool to witness. Bottom line, there are so many good things here that out weigh the less than ideal things. 4 stars in Mexico is still really good vs DR or Cuba.
