Tres Rios has always been a wonderful place to visit with the entire family. We have been coming since 2011 as a couple, with kids and my parents. Every time we visit we are greeted with positive energy and with a desire to make our stay memorable. I can’t say enough about each and every staff member we came across. They are what makes this resort a true gem! I wish my memory was sharp enough to remember them all by name but there are just too many. I have to say that there were some that we did frequent and I’d be ungrateful if I didn’t mention them.
J.C stood out because of his vibrant nature and was our go to guy for any requests we had. He was constantly checking in on us and making sure we had everything needed or he’d find a way to get us what we needed. Look for him, he is your guy and was an amazing Butler! Michelle, from the Hacienda Grill presented her serving skills as pure art! Freddy and Cesar behind the sports bar and pool bar made the best cocktails and were like visiting old friends. Every staff member was amazing!

The on site tours and entertainment seem to be under the radar but don’t underestimate their value to the experience. They made sure we had a fun and safe time. They made our down time at the resort enjoyable with karaoke, included tours, theater, pool games and more!

Like all trips, there were a few hiccups along the way but none worth mentioning since our concerns and/or preferences were accommodated in a timely fashion.
The rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. They provide you with enough toiletries and linens that you need not pack any of your own. All body and hair care are eco friendly and gentle on the skin. Rooms are also filled refreshments on a daily basis. Room service may take a while but still worth it on occasion especially after a long day out on tours or on days when you just need extra sleep. Don’t miss the restaurants! The food is unlike any other resort we’ve visited in the area. From comforting to sophisticated there are many options to choose from.
Ahh well, like all vacations they really should last a bit longer but it gives me something to look forward to soon I guess. You really need to visit for yourself! Let me know how it went 😉

While we've been visiting the Cancun area for 10 years now, we have been staying at Tres Rios for the past 6. We just love the location, views and surroundings. As members of La Herencia at Tres Rios we have the added bonus of a butler staff who absolutely make our trip the best. Daniel, Ruth and Enrique provided us with pretty much whatever we wanted. From introduction to departure, they were with us every step of the way making sure our room was ready for us at night, from turn down service or having the jacuzzi prepped, to delivering champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. If we requested a specific beach bed, they would make sure it was reserved for us (member perk). The resort itself is located on 300 acres of what was a wilderness park and is constructed in an eco-friendly manner. There are plenty of walking paths to follow, a nice gym, spa and even a dental clinic, all on site. We always get a couples massage at the spa. So relaxed. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The resort staff were so friendly and helpful that you can't help but fall in love with the place. There are 3 pools, one large and two smaller. One of which is for adults only. All the restaurants are great, and the food is outstanding. They have a couple of sunfish sailboats available as well of kayaks to use on the rivers that run through the resort. They are upgrading everything at the resort so the rooms in the main building are all being renovated as well as the lobby and the Italian restaurant. They are also building two new buildings, one at the front and another at the back of the complex. While there were some minor inconveniences, they were easy to overlook because of what the future will look like. I personally can't wait to see it. If there is a slight disappointing area it would be the beach. While they have worked hard over the last few years to build it up, and they are making it better, I think they have more work to do. On the public side there are rocks to move around when walking the beach and when in the water areas that are like mud when you walk through it. On the members side, as of Oct 23, the beach beds seem to be a little neglected. They are doing a massive renovation so I have no doubt things will be better when we return in October. Do I recommend Hacienda Tres Rios? You bet I do!!

It was a quiet vacation in Tres Ríos, without people, everything was very quiet, all the employees worked very hard, my respects to everyone, especially the room cleaners who cleaned our room every day.

To those in the restaurants, those people who cook for us every day from early until late at night, many thanks to Chef Gustavo for such excellent service and to Philiberto for his attention to us, the best of the waiters.

To the tour guides who gave us experiences that I will never forget, Alma of the bike tour is Spectacular, the best guide we could meet, excellent attitude and service, in the sense adventure Gerardo, who did a meditation to awaken our senses with the nature a unique sensation. On the kayak tour Lupillo and Andy also had excellent service.

The entertainment at night was the best, the activities with the children are great, thank you for thinking about them, an observation for the entertainment at night, remember that there are children, there are provocative dances by the entertainment as well as by the DJ with another entertainer I don't remember the name but it looked very bad, it's part of the show but there were still children in the area.

Magda from the daycare is very attentive to my children, the activities are very good to have a recreational time

In general everything was great. I hope to return in September to see the change in the Tres Ríos hotel.

The location is excellent, the rivers, the cenotes, the rain forest, spectacular and breathtaking. The hotel has a small bay fed by fresh water coming from two of the rivers and also fed from warm sea water, because of the salinity, the cold water is on top, warm on bottom, mostly cristal clear. You can walk in the rain forest, visit the cenotes, swim in the rivers. That is spectacular.
But:
The hotel is under heavy renovation, short on personnel, little training of the personnel, the construction workers working without protective equipment, throwing construction materials from the third floor. If there is any supervision of the hotel employees or the construction workers, it is not evident.
Quality of food is regular at best, service very poor, employees are nice and well intentioned, but again they lack training and supervision.
Worst part is the sales room, a very aggressive, lying, unprofessional and unethical sales person pushing us to give him our time share to buy one here. No free breakfast is worth wasting 4 hours with such a person, their product is poor, also they show you a magnificent suite, but if you dig deeper, you cannot access it with the package they are trying to force you to buy. Believe me, pay for your breakfast and save yourself the bad time.
The IHG Group, through the KIMPTON brand has invested in the property, hope the bring proper and ethical management to this hotel. The potential is great.

Option for limited budgets, if you are looking for a hotel that meets at an affordable price this could be an option, the hotel manages a membership modality, so most of the good comments come from its members, however, if you are paying your stay like a normal rental, there are several things you should consider.

First, the food options are limited and do not have the best quality or flavor, for breakfast only 1 buffet restaurant opens, for lunch the same restaurant with basic options, there is another seafood restaurant but it is always full and you have to wait in long lines to get in Besides, it does not have air conditioning and in the heat it is not comfortable to wait. For dinner, not all restaurants are open every day, and in the same way you have to wait in lines to enter and once inside wait for them to serve you and serve the food, which tends to take a long time.

The Service was good, the staff was always attentive and friendly, and we were very pleased that they have very national activities and presentations and for Spanish-speaking guests, which is not very common in this destination.

The design of the hotel is very nice and relaxing and perfectly meets the expectations to spend a fun and pleasant day with your family, they do not have an accessible beach, but with the river they have and which you can access to swim they do not need anything else .

As for the rooms, they are a good size, although if you were to share the rooms with someone who is not your partner, you will not have privacy because the bathroom doors are glass.

If you can afford something better in your budget, there are actually better hotels for this price. We stayed for a very short time and we didn't feel like we missed anything in particular and that's sad because when a hotel manages to make you want to see more and experience more it means it was an excellent experience. Tres Rios couldn't do it for a rental client.

This is our fourth visit to Tres Rios. It is not nearly as welcoming, well run or impressive as it once was,
And in some places, it appeared shabby or tattered. I recognize that it is undergoing renovations and construction although I was completely unaware of this until my arrival. Had I known I would never have booked. The rooms that have been renovated are now in a minimalist style and when they say minimalist, they mean it. There was virtually no furniture in our room. The kitchen units have been removed, there was nowhere to sit. The lighting was awkward to use and had fixtures just hanging at face height, illuminating nothing. There wasn’t even a dresser or drawers so we laid out our clothes on a built-in couch that was useless anyway. Also, there was no phone service so when when there was an issue, you had to walk to the front desk. We did have an issue in our bathroom and after three visits to reception it was never rectified. The final insult is the fact that as a member of Sunset resorts, but not a member of La Herencia we were unable to make dinner reservations. You just had to show up and hope that they had availability. I find that offensive, it makes you feel like a second class citizen. The only reason I didn’t rate this at one star was because mist of the staff, the chambermaids and servers are eager to assis. Francisco at Portobello is an example, was a wonderful waiter. I don’t think I will return to again if at all, and would certainly never recommend Tres Rios

They've gone downhill in the last 2 years for sure.

Changed the restaurants, removing any Mexican colors, effectively beige washing the whole thing.

Resort definitely caters to a MUCH older crowd (60s+).

Staff is fantastic, Butlers are fantastic and will go above and beyond if they can.

Music played by the pool is VERY OLD
As in, Beegees on repeat, Duran Duran, Wham, 70s and 80s American oldies. We came with Members, so had Black Bracelets the entire time, but so boring.

Their sister resorts, Sunset Royal and Sunset Marina in Cancun are much mote lively, with an outdoor theater, MUCH better food options and performances, and a lively young (under 50) atmosphere.

Beach on the member's side is excellent, beach itself is beautiful, cenotes and rivers on site (and animals) are excellent, but it isn't enough to make up for the terrible American centric old people vibes.

This is our second, and last time at this resort. As we speak, Rasputin is playing (again), Beegees have played twice, and "Roxanne" (song) will be playing again soon I'm sure..

Also have plenty of stories of false promises to the members, money gouging tactics and dishonest upselling practices.

DM me for all the details on how much they want you to sink in to be a member, and all the clauses that prevent you from getting out (literally 50 years or until death do you part).

For reference, we are late 30s, not partiers, but also not ready to come lie on a beach and wait for death's sweet embrace.

Ah, now "Hit the Road Jack" is playing. Excuse me, I must find Frontal Lobotomy services nearby...

This was our first trip to Mexico and our first stay at an all-inclusive that was not a Sandals. I was a little worried going to this resort since it was not adults only and the price was really low. Since Sandals is the only brand I have experienced I kept comparing the two but it's an apples and oranges comparison. Sandals is more luxury focused, top shelf liquor is included, as well as lobster when in season, there are also no member only menus. But the service here is a step above what we have been recieving at Sandals, everyone is so friendly and they provide a high level of service. I really wish I wrote down names because a lot of people at this resort deserve some praise. Victor, the pool waiter was who we had the most interaction with. Victor works extremely hard all day in the sun. Nobody in our party ever had an empty drink while we were poolside, which was about 10 am to 530 pm all week. Victor was so kind and always made sure we were taken care of. He really made our stay special, I can't speak more highly of him. All the restaurant staff was great, they all provided prompt and friendly service. A highlight of my day was the breakfast chorizo quesadillas, they were delicious and so were the omelets. The woman making them everyday was so friendly. The coffee shop had good lattes. The flank steak at Hacienda grill was really good. Lunch was also really good there, the coconut shrimp is a must try. We stayed in an entry level room, but it was clean and spacious. In summary we wanted to try something different because Sandals prices have been going up dramatically and the service has gone down some. For what we paid for staying at Hacienda Tres Rios I was amazed how pleasant our stay was, the people were just amazing, the service was top notch, and the food was really good too. I would definitely stay at this resort again. This is the first vacation in 7 years we did not splurge on, we have stayed in butler suites at 5 different Sandals resorts. We do love Sandals, but for what they are charging now the value isn't what it was when we first started going. Hacienda Tres Rios is an exceptional value for the money spent vs what you recieve.

The hotel is under renovation. Services such as a gym, children's and teens' club, spa and cafeteria have been unexpectedly relocated in what were hotel rooms, small spaces and nothing like the photos shown.

Other services such as restaurants, archery and baseball batting closed!

In the pool there are constructions, a constant noise of drills, saws and dust! You can't rest there.

I give it 2 rating points, because the staff, (Mimi on the bikes, Alma on the entertainment, Mayra on the kids club, and the man on the sensor adventure) even with a lack of equipment, spaces and materials, do wonders to make you have a good time.

Likewise, the restaurant and cleaning staff are their best asset, making you forget that you spent your vacation budget in a place that is not what it promises in the photos!

I think that is why the comments on this page are directed at the people and not at the facilities, I leave photos of what I saw.

Maybe by 2025 they finish it will be fine.

It was a welcome relief to not cook or clean for the whole week at this all inclusive resort. The staff was friendly and courteous. Our studio bedroom was comfortable for our family of 4. Updated room features were appreciated (shower, sink, furniture). Our only wish was to have firmer mattresses.

Our third story balcony looking out over the treetops and a portion of the river with the sunrise was a plus, as was the soaking tub on the balcony as well. Nice water pressure and no issues with water temperature. Mini fridge replenished with beverages daily. Daily room clean up was also a plus. I did not see evidence of the resort taking extra measures to be eco friendly aside from a note to put on your bed if you wanted them to change sheets every other night instead of nightly.

We enjoyed access to the private beach across the bridge where the water was clearer and seaweed was cleaned up. Beach towels and beach chairs/umbrellas were comfortable and included. Bar service was also provided there. Beach cabanas were nice there too and you could see the last of the daylight there in the hammocks.

Free activities like the kayaking to a cenote, snorkeling down river from a cenote and taking a shoreline tour on a Hobie cat boat were all worthwhile and enjoyed by all members of our family (book with the concierge).

The main pool was the place to be for entertainment-water slides, DJ, cooking classes, dancing classes, aqua Zumba, etc and closest proximity to the bar. The pool was huge and there were hardly people in it so we felt spoiled having it to ourselves. There were also three hot tubs but they were only slightly warmer than the regular pool-not sure what that was about. There was also construction happening on an addition to the property directly next to the pool, but once the DJ started it wasn’t very noticeable.

We enjoyed the different restaurants on site. Buffet offered a range of options though we tired of the selection toward the end of our stay. The Mexican restaurant (Alebrije) had a great band playing for entertain and the Asian restaurant (Kotori) had a flute player during our dinner service. Entertainment on the esplanade was a welcome change of pace some nights too.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this resort and would recommend!
