Detailed Reviews
The Tievoli Villa bed and breakfast is a real gem! We thoroughly enjoyed exceptional breakfasts served with flair by Patrick. Our hosts Wendell and Patrick were a pleasure to meet and chat with in the mornings before heading out to explore Merida. We even learned everyday phrases in Maya!
There's so much to see, do, and experience in Merida, but if you need a break from the hectic activity of the city streets you can unwind in the cool, quiet of the Tievoli courtyard. And as well, refresh from the heat of the day in the pool. (Although we differed in opinion from Wendell on what is considered a hot temperature!) Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a great bathroom. The personal artistic touches and the charming decor of the Villa reflect the welcoming and friendly attitude of the hosts.

Without question this is one of the nicest, most pleasant, most unusual places we’ve ever stayed. Patrick and Wendell have done an extraordinary job renovating their property — but it doesn’t stop there. Their warmth, unfussy service, attention to detail, and genuine concern for your well-being, put Villa Tievoli in a class by itself. We arrived as strangers having never been to Mérida before, but left as friends. How many places can you say that about?

When on vacation, we consider several factors in choosing a hotel, then rating it afterwards. Reviews by others are very important, and we do our homework. Also considered are location, price, breakfast, communication. Comfort, lighting, bathroom space, water pressure...all things that make a stay or can ruin it. We try and get hotels that have character or a feel for where we are, for the type of trip we are on. In other words, when in Prague, we don't want the Hilton. Exceptions are when we need a place to just sleep while passing thru an area.
We had been to Merida 13 years ago and stayed at a nearby historical hotel with our daughters. This trip we were alone and thought it would be nice to have a B&B. We wanted something near the ADO, the LDS temple, and of course city center. We found it easy to get around anywhere by walking and local transportation. Atm was nearby, as well as a VERY inexpensive medical clinic we needed to visit.
Taxi drivers do have trouble finding the address, the potted evergreen trees flanking the entrance help locate the Villa. They helped when we were walking, too.
Patrick and Wendell were delightful hosts. They took a lot of pride in their establishment (still in progress) and we felt more like visiting family than hotel guests. We were welcomed warmly, and had several occasions just to visit about the day or our plans. We appreciated the ‘tips’ and suggestions.
We were assigned the downstairs blue room which opened out to the quiet street. Noise was not an issue. We didn’t get to see where the other rooms were or the views, but we were rarely there during the day hours anyway. The best part was the outside pool area. I wished we had a few more opportunities to use it, it was lovely and refreshing in the over 100 deg heat.
Our room was simple and adequate. I am pretty picky about bathroom lighting and space and water. This place had enough counter space although I would have loved the mini mirror at the other counter to avoid congestion. The funny thing is that this is the first time I have had one in the ‘right’ spot AND with adequate lighting…and it was so hot outside I didn’t wear any makeup or use it. Bonus points for thinking of it, though.
The bed was typical mexican firm which I really sleep well on.
I did wish there was a little more pressure on the pressurized shower, but managed fine, showers just took longer.
Each breakfast was lovingly prepared and presented at our desired time on the outside patio and we ate while visiting with our hosts. I prefer light breakfast fare when traveling and have no will power when serving myself, so it was perfect to be served.
If I asked for anything to be improved, it would be a bigger Tv. Then again, most B&B’s don’t even have them.
We may never get back, but would stay with our new ‘friends’ if we did…oh, and if you go, take some hard to get Almond Joy candy bars to them!

We stayed two nights at this charming, friendly and very professionally run B&B, and would certainly make it our base for exploring the rest of Yucatan on our next trip. We loved our well decorated room with a small balcony for evening cocktails; filled with books library / reception room; outdoor landscaped patio. Patrick's refined breakfasts alone pampered us to VIP status for the rest of the day. Also, do not miss Patrick's travel advice during your breakfast time: we made the most of our stay in Merida, following his literally up-to-hour advice what was going on in the town, including tours, concerts, art and restaurants choices. A very telling detail: when we missed our first of scheduled three nights in The Villa Tievoli (long Delta delays, which left us slaying in Mexico City airport hotel), Wendell insisted on not charging us for that night. It was exceptional hospitality even among B&B's.

My boyfriend and I came to this hotel actually by reference of Julamis owner. We are grateful he did. Is the most beautiful and great place to stay. The room was spacious, extra clean, with very nice and artsy design. Patrick and Wendell are friendly and very nice people. We haven't been in Merida before and they share their tips and recommendations, and help you trough all your vacation. They gave us towels for our beach trips, water, umbrella and everything we may need as if they were family. When we got out we keep mentioning the hotel as "home" because that is what it feels like. They inform you of tours you may be interested and take care of all the logistics. Patrick's breakfast is delicious and served outdoors or indoors, he asks for your preferences so you enjoy your meal. We will surely come back soon and spread the word about this beautiful hotel and people. Thank you guys.

Wendell & Patrick The Villa Tievoli owners are wonderful & super friendly. We highly recommend this excellent B & B so relaxed and peaceful place to spend your vacation. Our rooms were spotless clean, spacious and modern. Free Wi-Fi strong signal. Comfortable mattress, pillows. Nice bathroom and shower good hot water pressure. We couldn't have found a better place. Patrick & Wendell would have breakfast table set outside in the BEAUTIFUL Courtyard. We originally had booked 2 rooms for 3 nights, but we like it so much and were so, nicely treated by our hosts that we extended our stay to 8 nights. We rented a car and Wendell volunteered Patrick to drive us to Celestun a 45 min drive from Merida. Patrick & Wendell were extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the area very helpful with information and suggestions to what to see and do. We have great pictures and memories of our stay @ The Villa Tievoli Good size swimming pool I to cool down after visiting downtown Merida.

My daughter and I took our Spring Break at "The Villa Tievoli" and are so glad we did! First off, the name backwards says it all " I love it"!! The proprietors Patrick and Wendell are an amazing fountain of knowledge. They know the town history and the quick ways to get around the city. Also they can provide you with a walking map and advise you on where to go, what to see and where to eat. The Villa is only a few short blocks away from the main square and from there you can continue your adventure.
The rooms themselves are large and with views of either the city street or small patio also with street view. ALL rooms have A/C, which is a must. Our room "called the Red room" had a King size bed, which was comfortable. The bathroom was also large and the walk in rain shower was wonderful. Library seems to be the conversational room, while the outside courtyard was nice and cool area to also talk. The Pool is beautiful with all the fountains and blue/teal tile lined walls, plenty of lunge chairs to relax. Taking a dip was VERY refreshing for weary travelers.
Breakfast is serviced at your leisure usually 7am-10am. The service IS EXCELLENT! Patrick serves it in the courtyard, under covered area with a wonderful, ivy lined water fountain, trickling in the background. Your breakfast will be on beautiful pattern bone china, a different pattern every day. My daughter and I felt like we were in a 5 STAR HOTEL. Breakfast was yummy and perfect for our busy tourist schedule. Although the treatment was 5 STAR it felt more like a comfortable family friendly setting. With both host making us feel at home and talking about Merida and what we can do while there. There wasn't a question that we asked about that they didn't have answers for. Please if you have a chance visit The Villa Tivoli and feel welcomed! Enjoy the photo's.

I choose to stay at the Villa Tievoli when in Merida. First are the hosts Wendell & Patrick who open their home in the most hospitable of fashions. Everything is just plain comfortable. The layout of the house surrounds a lovely courtyard where breakfast is served. Replete with statuary, traditional fountain, English ivy covered walls and walkway to a cooling pool and grill for casual meal preparation.
The Tievoli location always works well for me. Several nearby "neighborhood" bars combined with upscale eateries are within easy walking distance. When in central Merida one is immersed in the cities history. Churches, plazas, historic buildings are all nearby.
Should you want to enjoy day trips there are nature areas, Myan ruins & temples, indigenous villages, former and current haciendas, beaches and more to visit. All are within a reasonable distance from the Villa Tievoli.
Patrick & Wendell can set your outings in the best direction depending on your interests . . . Chances are they will have all the answers . . . But if by some odd chance they do not their wide circle of friends will be called on to best accommodate your preference during your visit.
