2022 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
Casa Del Maya is a lovingly restored home that celebrates the culture and craft of the Mayan people. We have 6 guest rooms, a refreshing pool, Wi-Fi throughout, TV, air conditioning, and a full gourmet breakfast, all located in historic Santa Ana in Merida centro. We invite you to come stay with us to enjoy Merida and all it has to offer, and we hope you return because we made you feel at home. Casa Del Maya B&B is not a bustling hotel, but a very private home where our goal is to make each person feel welcome and feel at home ... a place where you can just be yourself and unwind.

In the center of Merida, just blocks off Paseo de Montejo, sits a tranquil and charming Bed and Breakfast called Casa del Maya. Behind the typical unassuming Merida facade is the main house that contains a sitting area, complete with a piano for guests to enjoy. Local artwork adorns the walls, including the information about the artists. At the right time of day, this room is filled with delicious smells coming from the adjoining kitchen. Guests are provided a tasty breakfast to get their day started. The hallway to the back contains a small library with books to borrow, as well as literature for what to do in and around Merida. There is also a well stocked honesty bar of liquors, beers, and wine. The back property is where the guest rooms are located. The rooms are in sets of two, spaced out over the length of the property. The grounds are beautifully maintained with rock paved paths winding through to palapa-covered sitting areas. The pool is very refreshing and manages to maintain a cool temperature in the Merida heat. The landscaping allows for a natural oasis in the middle of a large city. The gardens draw inspiration from the jungles of Yucatan. Under the largest palapa, you can sit and enjoy your breakfast in the morning. The owner, George, is usually around and ready to engage in pleasant conversation. We happened to stay during the grand opening party, and I enjoyed hearing George's vision for the property expanding into a holistic retreat. The rooms had very comfortable beds, strong air conditioning, smart televisions, and roomy bathrooms. Everything was very clean. There are toiletries and water provided. Hammock hooks are in the wall, if you want to bring your own hammock and sleep the traditional way! The location is perfect to explore the centro area of Merida. There are multiple museums and tourist sites close by. Restaurants and bars are in abundance within a few block radius. Shoppers will love all the local shops and galleries nearby. I highly recommend this property, and plan on staying there again.

Property's Favorite Review
Casa del Maya is a small, beautifully decorated hotel in central Merida, about 10-15 minutes walk from the central plaza. The owners (George and Sarah) are very friendly and informative. They helped us solve a problem with our rental car. The breakfasts are delicious, brought to the table already plated by two cheerful ladies. There is a nice small pool, which we only found time to use once. My wife and I stayed in a small room on the ground floor, overlooking the pool, very nice. My wife's two sisters stayed in a larger upstairs room. Each room has its own door opening to the long, narrow courtyard, very pleasant. I clicked below that we were not required to wear face masks or do social distancing, which I consider a plus. My wife and I don't wear masks unless forced, and the Casa del Maya didn't force us, which I appreciated. None of the other guests were interested in wearing masks, either, from what I could see. The staff did wear masks; I guess they were required to wear them.

It doesn’t get better than this. The property is impeccably cared for by a friendly staff. The hosts are on hand to ensure a pleasant stay, and the breakfast is delicious. My room over looked a conversational pool with fountains and had a comfortable patio to chill and relax. The room’s ice cold a/c, and mattress were a cut above the norm I really thought the room’s indoor hammock sealed the deal. The room’s shower was large enough for a small army (I can’t prove this). Bravo! Everything about Casa Del Maya welcomes you back… I’ll be back during the winter. You won’t find better accommodations or service at any price.

We felt safe and our room was cool and quite comfortable. The inn was peaceful, clean and very attractive inside & out. The owners and staff were pleasantly attentive. However mosquitoes may have come in through the open space under the door

Just spent a week at Casa Del Maya and had a wonderful stay. The location is perfect (situated between the two best areas of the city, Paseo de Montejo and the Plaza Grande) and the staff very helpful. We needed a driver, a taxi, dinner reservations, Covid tests, etc., and Aaron was helpful well beyond the call duty. Our room was simple but more than adequate and the breakfasts were delicious. All around a great experience!

It is an oasis tucked away in the busy streets of Merida. Once you go through the door, everything changes and becomes serene and beautiful. It is a very well done place with great staff. The owner is very attentive. The room we stayed in was very spacious and very comfortable. Location is excellent. If you are looking to stay in Merida for a few days, this place is perfect. I will recommend this place to friends.
