We stayed five nights and it felt like home. We were so well cared for that we didn't want to leave. Teresa cooked awesome hot breakfasts and on special requests yummy dinners too. The king bedded room was very spacious with large windows, very comfy bed, large bathroom with separate shower and tub. It was very private and the inviting pool was right outside the door. The grounds were well kept and spacious. They even helped us with our laundry and arranged an excellent driver to take us downtown etc. It felt very safe staying here and we had some wonderful chats with Iona and JR. We would highly recommend this property to anyone.

I stayed with my family during Christmas break. Iona, the owner made us feel at home right away. It's a place where you don't feel like you're staying at a hotel where you're being attended... instead it's like staying at home with friends. If that weren't enough the rooms and the grounds are beautiful.

It's one of the few places where I'm looking forward to staying at again.

My only suggestion is that there isn't anything worth visiting at a walking distance from the hotel, so guests do need a car or rely on taxis.

We had two spacious rooms with to enormous beds and nice soft matrasses. Good breakfast by Teresa on the porch.ona and JR are very hospitable and helped us with taxi, laundry and diner - and we had some good chats and had a good tour around the garden and learned a lot about vanilla plants. Nice pool. Attractive hacienda. Conveniently located. Taxi to Merida centre recommended. About an hour to Homun and other cenotes. Easy access to the mainroad. Close to Hacienda Teya. We had a great stay.

Love this place. Second time this year at San Pedro’s Nopath and we will stay here every time we come back to Merida. The place is lovely: great rooms, superb kitchen and the most incredible and warmth hospitality from the owners, Iona and Jr.

Returned 02/09/04 from the Yucatan. Spent two nights at a beautiful, newly rennovated hacienda near Merida, where it was supposed to be our base of operations for a nervously self-guided trip to Uxmal. Hacienda San Pedro Nohat has been lovingly restored and modernized by a young and energetic Canadian couple. Their website (haciendaholidays) advertises airport pickups at Merida, but we arrived in our rented Neon after dark, having traveled the toll road (and recently widened Route 180) from Cancun. (The roads around Merida are wide and newly built, with new construction everywhere.) The hacienda is a few hundred feet off of Route 180 as it nears Merida, within a mile of Merida's circumference road (Anillo Periferico). We drove in after dark; the owner arranged dinner for us, and then offered to take us to the neighboring village's festival, where the bullfight was about to continue. We rode over in motorized rickshaws, and climbed onto the platform around the ballfield bullyard (local families built the entire stadium from lashed-together sticks, as they do every year). Unbelievable! The next day, we had planned to drive ourselves to Uxmal. Instead, the owner asked if we would like to join her and two other guests, for a guided tour. We spent the day visiting Uxmal and Labna ruins; took a trip down indescribable and unfindable back roads to the largest, loveliest and most haunting hacienda ruin imaginable, and finished the day with a tour of an underground cavern filled with stalactites, stalagmites and evidence of early Mayan occupation and later caste war standoffs. These people are not kidding when they say "Yucatan adventures are our specialty." Wonder what a second day's tour would have shown us? We hated to leave... The Hacienda's rooms are huge (with 15-foot ceilings!). New beds, mattresses, fixtures. A ceiling air conditioner with a remote! A staff that stayed until we returned from our guided tour, to offer us a late dinner. And we got a discounted room rate... The website photos accurately show the rooms, the pool, and the grounds. The service, hospitality and energy of your hosts - that you'll have to experience for yourself.

San Pedro Nohpat is a renovated hacienda hotel/restaurant located just outside of the Merida city center. It was an excellent starting point for my first trip to the Yucatan. One travel session with the owner, Iona, opened up a world of possibilities for my itinerary. For example, she suggested that I visit the cenotes of Cuzama, which turned out to be a highlight of my vacation. She also had advice on which sights I should avoid given my timeframe. Iona has the inside track on many sights (haciendas, cenotes) and events (bullfights) that you won't find in your guidebook. As a non-Spanish speaking woman travelling alone in the Yucatan, I cannot emphasize how grateful I was for this orienteering session. Iona eliminated much of my doubts about travelling alone and made me see how much the area has to offer. She even offered to take me on a snorkeling tour of a hidden cenote.

Room/Grounds - There was nothing standard about my standard room. High, beamed ceilings topped a spacious, well-decorated room with a large seating area. Two wooden windows opened to a great view of the pool. The gardens are lush and well-maintained. Special touches include inviting garden benches or chairs and a trellised path leading from the main house to an old hacienda wall. A palapa-roofed structure houses an outdoor seating area and a relaxing hammock.

Food - Breakfast is a simple meal of very fresh fruit and yogurt, coffee, juice, buttered toast and jam. I took my meal on the patio overlooking the hacienda entry. There is also an indoor dining room and a bar.

The Hacienda San Pedro Nohpat delivers great value for the price. It would be difficult to find personalized travel advice in English coupled with large, clean rooms and lovely grounds anywhere in Merida. This is truly a gem waiting to be discovered.

From before arrival until departure, this delightful Canadian couple offered us all of the comforts of home, family, and friendship. Upon first being contacted, they were extremely helpful with making arrangements to visit the area. This included not only the bed and breakfast proper but also local attractions like restaurants, ruin sites, etc. They provided basic information regarding payment plans for their facility and otherwise as well as general safety tips. They even agreed to have our favorite drinks and homemade pizzas available upon our arrival as it was expected to be late at night.

Our arrival was at about 10 PM, and sure enough, after being graciously welcomed, we were shown to the dining area where our drinks and pizzas awaited us. The pizzas were outstanding as was all of the food that was served to us on the property. The owners visited with us over our late dinner and offered suggestions for how to spend our time while in the area. They even offered to accompany us as necessary.

The guest rooms are very large and comfortable. They have high ceilings and include air conditioning as well as ceiling fans. The bedding was quite comfortable, and there are in-room mini-refrigerators that were stocked with soft drinks, water, and beer. The rooms were clean, and the decor was that reflective of the area.

A family style breakfast was served the next morning on the front porch. The fresh fruit was that common to the area and quite delicious as was the other food. As animal lovers, our party was made to feel quite at home with a cross between a parrot and a parakeet in the tree on the front porch watching us as we dined. There were also two resident dogs that layed out front and raised their heads once in a while to let the world go by. Then, there was a duck, a burrow, and the largest frog imaginable available to also keep us company and entertain us.

Last but not least, there was a beautiful cement pool with comfortable chairs ourside of our guest rooms. It was the perfect setting for morning coffee and juice or an after dinner drink and conversation. Beside of the pool is a short pathway through some incredibly gorgeous gardens.

All in all, this was an excellent find at extremely reasonable rates. As I write this review, I find myself ready to return.

My husband and I just got back from our vacation and had a great time at Hacienda San Pedro Nophat for the five nights we were there! Only one of the owners was there but she helped us out a lot. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. If you drive to the place don't be scared away from your first view from the parking lot because as you turn the corner (either one) you will see how beautiful the place. The gardens are great. They have a number of animals including birds, dogs, and a turtle. We ate our breakfasts and dinners there. Food was really good and we never got sick. If you are looking for a few comforts of home while on vacation definitely stay here. Best of all the rates are very reasonable.

We stayed at the Hacienda for 5 days in the end of April. This was not tourist season in Merida as it is the hottest time of the year. However the Hacienda was cool and inviting probably at least 5 degrees F. cooler than Merida, which we enjoyed throughly inspite of the heat. We flew into Cancun and rented a car for the aprox 75 mile drive to Merida, the provincial capital of Yucatan state. Merida is one of the safest places in Mexico today. The drive from Cancun was on 180 D, the toll road, which is a very good road. Though gas up when you hit half a tank. The Hacienda is easy to find. You will see the Hacienda's smoke stack at the first stop light as you are approaching Merida. The Hacienda itself is in the little Mayan hamlet of San Pedro. We also saw plenty of air conditioned buses make the drive from Cancun as well as buses to local towns as well.

We would agree with the previous writer about the beauty and hospitality of the Hacienda. We did not eat dinner here but had a great breakfast on the terrace every morning as we watched the village come to life. One morning we were treated to a kindergarten program on the front lawn. This was one of the real treats of our trip. The Hacienda owners, Iona and JR are a real part of the community. We took the unique local cab service, a bike or moped taxi, into Kanacin to Susana's restaraunt. The food here was fantastic. We also had a great lunch at the famous Hacienda Teya only a few miles from San Pedro. Other don't miss out of the way places to visit are Sotuta de Peno, a working henequen plantation, the shopping in Merida & Ticul, cenotes, the ruins of Uxmal and the birds at Celestun. There is so much to do in the area that we were glad we had a car though you certainly do not need one

If you consider yourself more of traveller than a vacationer the Hacienda San Pedro Nohpat is for you. There was a refrigerator in our room for cold drink but you will not be waited on hand in foot like the 5 star resorts on the coast. You will enjoy the cooler breezy evenings by the pool. You will come to understand the modern & industrious Mayan people of the area who are working to preserve their heritage. You will even learn some Mayan words. See the real Yucatan, stay at the Hacienda San Pedro Nohpat.

What a treat to sample the life which must have existed over the last four hundred years at Hacienda San Pedro. The room was great with a pool just steps away. The thirsty traveler was treated to an perfect frozen margarita. Iona was super with excellent suggestions for what to do in and around Merida. The breakfasts on the porch were enchanting and the food excellent. One day after a big lunch in the city Iona suggested a roast beef sandwich instead of a dinner and she made it to perfection. Village life which surrounded the hacienda was interesting to watch. We would go back in a minute and the only change we'd make would be to stay longer.
