We stayed 3 nights in the hotel. The old town is within walking distance which is perfect. There's a nice restaurant downstairs with daily offers (like 2 for 1 pizza in the evening). The Mercado60 market is nearby with live music every night (Nice food,...More
The best part of Hotel Casa del Balam is the location and staff. It's walking distance from all major attractions and restaurants, which is great. The staff was very friendly, especially Carlos!

See answers provided below. If the questions raised are a major concern I suggest rethinking. This is a lovely, comfortable, clean and friendly hotel with all the character of a renovated Mexican mansion. It's not a Ritz or a Four Seasons, but we'd certainly return. Also, the location is unbeatable and noise was not an issue in our corner room in an upper floor.

We did not pay to have breakfast included, and I'm glad! We ate at the hotel restaurant the first day, but found lots of better and less expensive places nearby. Our favorite was Cafeteria Pop which had better coffee and a full egg breakfast (like huevos rancheros, for example) with juice or fruit, coffee, and toast for just around 50 pesos (less than $3). Another good place was right across the street Gourmet Cafe Molina, I think it was-- it seems like it's a chain however. Nevertheless, the coffee was better there, too. The mole enchiladas were very tasty. Avoid at all costs the Cuban place on the corner of Calle 55 and Calle 62--worst coffee ever! They have a huge roaster going in the window, but that's just for show. The coffee tasted like Nescafé, the glasses were filthy, and the service was snarky. Many places within a block or two offer specials for breakfast, so it's easy to go out and try different restaurants each day.
