I wish I didn’t have to tell people about this place because we want it all to ourselves! It is the place that makes vacations, a place that once you go, you want to go back forever. We had an AirBnB down the block and stumbled in by accident. We were so thankful we did. Every single person made us feel welcome and like family right away. When I say like family, I mean it! I was pregnant and worried about what to eat and everyone was so kind about it, and put up with my bad Spanish and then helped me practice for the rest of our trip! My husband and I have spent a lot of time in the hospitality world all over, and believe us when we say they are nailing it here. Everything is quality, the food is exceptional, and you will feel like a VIP every time you walk through the door. And when we say the food is exceptional, we dined at nearly every “you have to go here” restaurant when we were in Merida, and the chef here beats them all (and she is just a wonderful person too). Not only is it the best place to eat and relax in Merida, but you will leave with some great new friends that will make you want to return every year (or sooner!). Para nuestro amigos de Merida Santiago, tuvimos un bebé! Su nombre es Alejandro y un día volveremos para que pueda conocer a todos! Roxanne and Dan…
This was an excellent place to stay! After we took a cooking class we abandoned our air B and B and moved here. The staff was kind and welcoming! They helped us plan our trips for the next day are we’re very interested that we enjoy ourselves to the fullest! The breakfast was outstanding, better than anywhere else we ate in town by far! Rodrigo and Mario such an asset to this hotel! They were the highlight of our stay! You will not be disappointed. This is a hidden gem! Beautiful pool too!
Beautiful hotel! We took a cooking class, loved it so much we decided to stay the rest of our trip here. Food is one of the best in Merida. Staff is amazing, Mario made our trip! he was super helpful and kind, made sure we had everything we needed and more. Kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting!!! Would definitely return to Merida just to visit again. Definitely check this place out, if only for a drink and a swim in the pool!
Before you arrive, you feel already welcome by the staff. Very clean hotel, very friendly staff. Personal advise for restaurants and excursions. There cooking class was one of our highlights during our stay in Mexico! You go to the market to buy ingredients and in the meantime some history of Merida. Then you cook together with the chef who is very friendly! It was one of the best meals we ate! The breakfast was delicious. Rooms are spacious and our bathroom was huge. Nothing negative to say about our stay.
NOTE: Don't confuse this with the Hotel Santiago or the Hotel Merida! If getting in a taxi, ask the driver specifically for the Hotel Merida Santiago, as the others are on the north side of the Plaza Grande. The hotel sits on a rather dusty and run-down street, but behind the doors is a fantastic oasis. The staff are wonderfully courteous, as only small family-run hotels can provide. The rooms are situated around a little courtyard with a nice pool. Behind the pool are a few tables for the restaurant and their bar. There is also a library where you can sit, relax, and read some of their travel books about the region. My room was just off the pool, and was really larger than I needed. The bathroom was massive, with a tiled, walk-in shower. They have a good location, just about a 15 minute walk from the Plaza Grande, but in a very quiet street. Breakfast is included, and you choose from a good selection of dishes. The hotel also offers dinner. What made my stay at the Merida Santiago great, though, was the staff. They are incredible, remembering your name from when you check-in, to helping arrange whatever tour options you want. They also speak at least English and French as well (that I heard). It was a fantastic stay, and the next time I'm in Merida I'll stay here again.…
My husband and I just spent 6 amazing nights at Merida Santiago Hotel Boutique!!! We couldn’t have chosen a better place to lodge during our very first trip to Merida, MX. The accommodations were beautiful, tropical and clean. The staff was warm and friendly and exceeded our expectations in every way. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home from the refreshing welcome drink upon arrival to the extremely helpful concierge Mario ready and willing to arrange excursions. Every meal was delicious, every course well presented. It was also very convenient that they offer mezcal and tequila tastings as well as a cooking class onsite. The owners overheard us tell a restaurant guest that we were celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary and decided to surprise us with a sweet gesture. We were treated to a lovely edible fruit bouquet and two ice cold beers! It’s low season so we pretty much had the place to ourselves which allowed us to interact with whole staff. Thanks again Rodrigo, MaJo, Mario, Maria, Rita and everyone else!!! You’re the best at what you do and we can’t wait to stay with you again!…
My wife and I (and our 1 year old daughter) were lucky enough to spend the past 4 weeks in Mexico. It would have been a shorter stay had we not found – and fell in love with – the Merida Santiago Hotel. From the room we had to the staff that ran the hotel to the chefs in the kitchen to the cleaning staff to the owners to the swimming pool. It was just incredible all around! Owned by the friendly and hospital Jan and Rita, (and close to the heart of the city) the Merida Santiago Hotel literally became our home for well over a week. (I was able to work from there too, given the WiFi speeds at the pool were better than those back at home in NYC.) But the room was immaculate, comfortable and airy. (and well taken care of by Maria and Veronica). Mario, heading the staff, was incredible – and helped with everything we needed (checking us in, waiting our tables, even some babysitting!) Mario has an infectious energy and made everyone around him smile. And the restaurant showcased a fantastic menu (limited, simple and “comfort food”, but delicious nonetheless). The fish and cauliflower tacos were the best! Lead by head chef Ma-Jo, the kitchen staff made food that was delicious and consistent. (Ma-Jo even went out of her way to create her version of a key-lime pie for our wedding anniversary. It was outstanding!) In all, it was a wonderful stay that we cannot rave enough about. If you are looking for a professional, friendly and comfortable stay at a boutique oasis with a pool in the middle of Merida, look no further than the Merida Santiago Hotel Boutique. We will return again and again – even after we coordinate with Rita about potentially buying our own place down there at some point in the future! We left the hotel with the hopes of returning real soon, but more importantly with a lot of new friends that we now consider part of our extended family!…
We had breakfast here in early March 2022. It was fantastic; the little Dutch pancakes with strawberry sauce were perfectly light and sweet. The chilaquiles were incredible. Service is fast, professional, and super friendly! The small dining area is poolside and spotlessly clean. Highly recommended as a charming and delicious breakfast spot.
Beautiful hotel, staff so friendly and helpful. They organised everything we wanted to do. Our bed was extremely comfortable and the room was large and quiet. The breakfasts were exceptionally good. We had dinner and can strongly recommend.
I stayed in the Superior Suite for a week when visiting in January 2022. Everything about the stay was fantastic! The room was large and clean (same with bathroom). The meals were fantastic and incorporated Yucatan cuisine. The property is delightful and COVID protocol were strictly followed. My favorite were the staff -- they went over and above to make sure I had a wonderful first time in Merida. I wish I could have stayed longer!
