#16 of 58 B&Bs / Inns in Isla Mujeres
The casa Maya hotel in Isla Mujeres was developed by owner señor Jose Lima as a Mayan town with its palm thatched bungalows around a coconut palm garden and 100 yards of beachfront. It has 22 rooms and offers a very Mexican, very Mayan atmosphere. It has a wide collection of reproductions of the best Mexican painters like Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo, a large collection of books about Mexican art, architecture, Mayan culture and history and señor Lima has now converted his hotel into a bed and breakfast hotel on the beach

Good location, short walk to restaurants and bars, beautiful maintained grounds and pool. Room was basic, but clean, had a fridge. Safe was broken. No lounge chairs by pool or on beach. The continental breakfast consisted of getting a ticket at desk, walking a block to a restaurant where you were served two slices of toast with awful butter and jam, orange juice and coffee. That’s it, Did it once. Paid for breakfast in town, many good places. It’s quiet and beach is amazing and shallow way out. I’d stay here again if they’d get some lounge chairs by the pool at least.

Worst bed ever and they block off the beach entrance, you have to walk through thier lobby to get back and forth to the beach, they have slippery tiles in the lobby that you have to pass through, I fell straight on my head in there it was so slick. Breakfast is a joke, can't even get a cup of coffee there for thier inclusive breakfast, everything us a half a mile up the road, kinda sucks when you just want some coffee and breakfast but have to get ready for the day and walk a half a mile first

This is at the most a 2.5 stars and not the 4 stars we saw on the internet. Below a Motel 6. You don’t even get hand towels or any extra towels. The place is dilapidated with broken statues on the grounds. The gates to the beach are always close instead of only closing at night time. They don’t provide any chairs or umbrellas for guests. They don’t even give you a couple of bottle of water like every other hotel in the area. The hammock garden has ONE hammock for all guests. The view from our front door is a dust pan with an empty pot. t was actually depressing staying at such rundown hotel with such a beautiful beach.

We had a quick 2 night stay on Isla Majeures, after spending 7 days in Playa del carmen. We visited the island 2 years ago for a day trip and loved it and recommended to friends. We decided to stay on Isla for last couple days of our trip before heading home to Canada.

Very basic room, no coffee maker, phone or alarm clock, no decor to speak of but clean. The tv did have two english channels, HBO. Internet was sketchy in the room and very slow in the lobby. No beach chairs, no beach towels, thankfully we brought our own. Air conditioner was wonderful and we did get extra towels when requested. The lagoon outside was beautiful azure blue water and white sand. To access the beach you had to go through the lobby. They had lovely gates lining the property to the beach but they were all chained up, I can only guess for security reasons. Shame they couldn't come up with a secure system to access them. Didn't see any employees during our ten day stay except for the office staff. If you needed anything you had to go down to the office in the lobby as no in house phone system. Quiet hotel, great location. Walking distance (5 min) to "Playa Norte", most popular beach on the island where you can rent chairs and an umbrella for the day. It's a public beach so had to put up with the vendors selling their wares. "North Garden" was our go to restaurant, fabulous fresh food every meal! On check out we tried to get our boarding passes printed in the office but they couldn't figure it out so they sent us to another hotel to get them.
