Conde Nast Traveler's 50 Best New Hotels in the World. Hotel Secreto is a sleek nine-room hideaway - Santorini-meets-Schrager style. Constantly upgrading, the hotel was renovated in 2005 to include a 20 meter lap pool and an all junior suite lay-out. Designed by an award-winning architect, the hotel looks more like a slick private beach house. Modern touches such as WI-FI and pre-loaded iPods are part of an enhanced poolside service.

Detailed Reviews
My love affair with Hotel Secreto began about 17 years ago and continues to this day.
The hotel is located within easy walking distance to downtown and the east side of Playa Norte but is comfortably tucked away from the noise and bustle of Hidalgo. The spacious rooms are simply and beautifully decorated with clean white walls, small, elegant flourishes and dramatic over-sized mirrors. The beach, while not swimmable, is the perfect quiet location to dip your toes in the ocean and enjoy some private time. Although the hotel does not have room service, they quickly arrange for delivery from several restaurants. The private patios/balconies are a lovely place to lounge on the ample beach beds while looking over the infinity pool to the ocean waves. It is heaven.
But best of all is the staff. Scott and his team are not only warm, friendly and inviting, but they make you feel like you are part of the Secreto family. I cannot count how many times they have gone out of their way to make my vacation perfect. While the drunken and obnoxious hordes from Cancun have been slowly eroding the tranquil culture of the island and pushing me to investigate other destinations, Hotel Secreto is one of the critical threads that keeps pulling me back.

I truly agree with the vast majority of other reviewers that Hotel Secreto is superb! My wife and I have just returned from an incredible stay. We found that this small swanky boutique hotel surpassed any category of over rated all inclusives or condos. The nearby and destination restaurants each provided outstanding meals and very reasonably priced. Playa Norte beach was a 5 minute leisurely stroll with beach attendants waiting to serve you.
The spacious 4th floor suite looked over the idyllic pool and turtle nest studded beach and on to the horizon of the blue blue Caribbean ocean. WiFi was strong and reliable. Housekeeping was meticulous and provided daily by Cesar
Hospitality far exceeded any expectation. Owner and manager Scott was always available for dining and destination advice or a cold beer. We are truly grateful and consider him a friend.
Full spa services included blissful massages by Carlos
Yes, with no doubt, after 2 previous visits to Isla Mujeres, this IS the place to stay. and anticipate a visit again when the wicked winds of winter send us back to this tiny paradise.

We stayed a week at Hotel Secreto in early August, for our 44th anniversary. We did not want to leave! We travel often and Hotel Secreto is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. The rooms, location and facility are lovely. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The balcony looked over the pool and the hotel beach. Turtles laid eggs on the beach while we were there. Located in a quiet corner of Isla Mujeres, it is only a 10 minute walk to the center of town, the ferry terminal, beaches and restaurants. We found it perfect in every way.
As nice as the hotel is, the experience was greatly enhanced by the friendliness of the owner, Scott, and his staff. I was reminded of a book where one of the characters was "the perfect host". That would be an appropriate description for Scott. He was very helpful and flexible in scheduling room servicing based on our wishes, he recommended places to go and restaurants, and was a great source of information about the island.
Can't wait to go back!

I would recommend this hotel; however, there are drawbacks to staying here. Let's start with the
Pros:
1) private beach (more or less)
2) friendly staff
3) cool swimming pool
4) cleanliness
5) quieter place (more or less I'll get to that below)
6) fair price vs luxury hotels
Room for growth
1) They need an emergency stash of food in case of hurricanes. We were there during a hurricane and luckily we brought a couple snacks to hold over my pregnant fiancee. Without that, the hotel was inadequately prepared to even sell us food! We ended up going to another hotel to eat, and we had to plead with them to let us eat there.
2) No microwave and the fridge did not work (To be fair, I don't know if the room says fridge included, but it sure looked like it was a fridge!)
3) We could hear music at night from the hotel next to us. If you're a light sleeper, this will keep you up. If you're a heavier sleeper, you're all good.
All in all, this hotel is what it is. At least the staff are friendly, or this review would have been below average. They were nice enough to let us bring a photographer on the property; however there was public access in case they wanted to charge us a fee. Nothing was above and beyond.

I stayed at the Hotel Secreto at the beginning of my trip around the Yucatan Peninsula and was desperately in need to see the sun, relax at a pool and simply have a cozy environment to come down after 5 months of lockdown and winter in Germany.
This is exactly what I found.
Scott from the hotel was always very responsive and helpful beforehand and organised my transfer to Puerto Juares from where the ferries to the Island go. The hotel itself is bit away from the main action on the Island (i.e. North Beach) which I found very nice as you don’t have the parties in your backyard and it is still only a 5-10 minute walk to North Beach. The hotel itself does not serve breakfast but I found the „Green Garden“ just around the corner which was excellent.
I had room 307 which had a nice view (over the pool and to the beach and sea) and is equipped with a massive mirror, a lounging area and a huge balcony. The balcony, however, does not have direct sunlight after about 11am. The bedding was very comfortable and I slept great. Bathroom was good as well.
I furthermore had a massage which was very enjoyable and helped to destress.
I found the hygienic measures at the hotel adequate (wearing masks inside, social distancing and regular disinfection) and since the hotel itself is quite spacious and doesn‘t have 100 rooms I felt very safe with regards to Covid-19.
Thanks again, Scott, would be back in a heartbeat.

My boyfriend and I have been to the island numerous times, but this was the first at Hotel Secreto and it was by far our favorite hotel we’ve have stayed. The location is perfect and the beach right outside the hotel is gorgeous. Service was incredible, Scott and Angel made us feel so welcome. Rooms were cleaned everyday, they made delicious cocktails, and did everything they could to make sure our stay was enjoyable. I can’t recommend this hotel enough!

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at this lovely hotel. The location was perfect for us - walking distance to the Playa Norte beach, restaurants and bars on Main Street. The beachfront rooms had great views of the ocean and pool. The rooms were very large with GREAT beds and bedding, sitting room area and huge balcony with table, chairs and lounging mattress.
The pool area was perfect for hanging out and Angel was extremely kind and attentive, providing cold beer and wine. A large variety of food items are also available to order.
Scott was a gracious host and we felt completely safe visiting during COVID times. He provided great restaurant recommendations and arranged a golf cart for the day.
If you are looking for a nice property slightly away from the crowds and noise yet close to the action, this is the place. We look forward to returning!

The location and privacy is what hooked us, Scott and his team is what will keep us coming back every year.
Hotel Secreto is about two blocks off of North Beach, but feels like it's on a remote island in the middle of the Caribbean with a private beach of it's own. Because of it's location you can have a quiet stay where you can hear the surf crash against the shore, but with a short (less then 5 minute) walk you are in the heart of the downtown district.
Hotel Secreto is walking distance to everything that North Beach has to offer and includes some of the best Pina Colada's, Mojitos and Margarita's on the island.
The rooms are spacious, extremely clean and the staff is as friendly as they come. Our host, Scott, is extremely personable and knowledgeable and will go out of his way to make your stay as worry free as possible. For example, we were in the mood for a mid morning Mojito and their bar was not open yet, so Scott called a nearby restaurant and had a couple of Mojito's delivered to us at the pool. He also called and got us a golf cart when the local bike shop was closed and set up reservations at restaurants for us whenever we were asking about where to eat.
In fact, the hardest thing he made us do was pick between a red or white bottle of complimentary wine when we checked in.
We have decided that Hotel Secreto is our new home on Isla Mujeres and will will come back there every year.

I stayed 5 nights in room 206- my room was enormous, clean and had a marvelous view. The room has a Nespresso and plenty of bottled water so you can have coffee on the balcony every morning . Stop at a market and pick up creamer . There is a small fridge for drinks, leftovers etc. We got pastries from "Roosters" and "The Garden" I had the best massage of my life in the spa. I cannot remember her name but she is adorable and wears glasses. The lobby bar is a great place to have a drink in the evening or you can buy wine by the bottle and take it out by the pool or up to your room. The beach in front of the hotel is not for swimming . Besides it being overwhelmed by seaweed it is also very rocky. Walk 5 minutes around the corner to Playa Norte. They do an excellent job at keeping the seaweed issue under control and the sand and water are gorgeous. Do not be a tight wad -just rent the palapa. Trust me you will need a break from the sun- Oct was warm. The hotel was helpful and accommodating with cabs and transportation arrangements to the airport. Save the hassle and have them line up your ride from the airport with Mora transportation . A cab from the airport one way was $75 for my friends while I paid $85 with tip roundtrip with a van all to myself. Wonderful location close to our favorite restaurants. I will definitely return !

When visiting Isla Mujeres, location is very important. Hotel Secreto offers the perfect balance of private and quiet with proximity to everything on the north side of the island. The owners and their staff are the most helpful people we've ever encountered while traveling. Our room was extremely clean and well maintained. The views from the rooms are spectacular! Many locals we spoke with said that Secreto sits on the prettiest beach on the island. If you are considering an all-inclusive experience on Isla, DON'T! There are so many incredible restaurants and fun places to eat and drink. Don't limit yourself to a hotel pool/beach. Besides the scuba diving, our favorite part of the trip was walking to/from dinner from Secreto. It's such a romantic little hotel. I promise you will not be disappointed.

They do provide towels for the pool/beach. Just ask the front desk :)
The hotel sets up everything. The Dr. will come to your room and do the swab. Super easy.
We walked from the ferry to the hotel, took about 15 minutes and very easy, depending on your luggage load.
