We traveled with a large group of friends (14 total) all staying at several different locations on Isla. We "splurged" and decided to stay at the Avalon for our first two nights. We stayed in the tower. As the other reviews state, the rooms are very basic and bland. On our first morning, we walked to breakfast and came back... More

I would like to start the review off by saying we too had read the prior reviews and traveled with some trepidation to the Avalon Reef Club Isla Mujeres. It was unfounded. We found the property to be very nice, secluded and everything we where looking for in a Mexican vacation. We traveled with 3 other couples and stayed in... More

As the date of our departure approached, we began to see more and more negative reviews regarding this hotel. It appeared that various components of the hotel were being shut down, and we grew wary of our selection. We contacted our travel agency, who called the hotel and made inquiries. Apparently those issues had been largely resolved, but we still... More

We were so excited to get the Avalon Isla Mujeres, but our excitement quickly turned into disappointment upon arrival. Firstly, we had to travel across a rigety bridge to get to the hotel. That was pretty scary. After checking in, we were escorted to our rooms by a hotel staff member. We took stairs that desperately need repair and the... More

We just got back from 5 nights at the Avalon Reef. This is our second time staying there. OK, Here's the scoop on this hotel. First, there is absolutely no other location like it anywhere. A private island resort. Surrounded by water on all 4 sides. You're paying for the location. A reef on one side and infamous "North Beach... More

We were one of the couples who decided to stick it out and stay booked at the Avalon despite rumours of it potentially closing. Our first impression, i admit, was not that good. All of the furniture is old, the food is repetitive (we went AI) and a lot of the service staff had trouble speaking english. I am sure... More

We had never been to the Isla Mujeres before & were quite excited about the Avalon Reef based on previous reviews & pics. The location of the hotel is wonderful and actually located on a smaller island attached to Isla Mujeres by a short walking bridge over water. Upon arrival I knew we were not going to be as happy... This hotel is a DUMP! I could not believe what I saw when we walked onto the property. The hotels website is a complete lie!!!!! The property looks like it is on the verge of closing. The hotel tower needs painting...it is dirty! The beds are hard...very hard! The pool was dirty, birds were landing in the pool. The swim-up... More

Everything at this place is awful except the location. The rooms are shabby, and problems with hot water supply and flushing toilets. The service at the reception desk was poor and the food was below standard. Worst of all, we had purchased a share into the membership supporting this and other Avalon hotels. We were told one lie and misrepresentation... More

Until this resort undergoes a total (and I mean total) renovation - cleanliness, menu, staff , etc. I will not even consider returning. I checked in and an hour later checked out. My family and I were extremely disappointed with the unbelievably limited and unappetizing menu, restaurant disarray and dirty table linens, lack of polite and helpful staff, and no... More
