You couldn’t ask for a better B&B. Beautiful, relaxing and the perfect location to walk to restaurants, markets and all the sites of Cozumel. David and Magda were fabulous hosts and made you feel right at home. The breakfasts were delicious and they were very helpful and attentive to all questions about Cozumel. The suites were spacious, clean and comfortable. Quiet and relaxing spot in the perfect location. We loved our stay and would recommend this to everyone.

We loved staying at Villa Escondida. Magda and David are great hosts. Location was perfect for us as you can walk anywhere in downtown Cozumel. And it was about 10-15min taxi ride from Marina Fonatur where our dive shop was. The room was nice and clean with spacious shower and hot water which is amazing after diving all day. We loved chilling by the pool and enjoyed the beautiful garden. The breakfast was awesome too. Magda was able to accommodate my vegan diet and made some amazing banana muffins, best i have ever had. We would definitely stay here again.

We have stayed with David & Magda 4 times. How easy is check in, the shuttle drops us off two steps from the door and David or Magda is there to great us.Clean, quiet, comfortable, close to good places to eat, dive shops the town square and a couple of blocks from the water, but not bothered by droves of tourists from the cruise ships. Breakfast is always a treat. You will not find nicer people than David & Magda. Paul & Cathy

Mixed feelings but I must provide an honest review. Magda and David are simply LOVELY people. Not so friendly. Not cut out to be in the hospitality industry - which is fine, it is not for everyone and I certainly could not do it day in and day out but if you de use to run a bed and breakfast you should probably have that particular skill set mastered! Holding your tongue is a gift. Best way to do this is a PROS/CONS listing. I have included ten (10) photographs.....first the PROS. PROS 1)Centrally located only 100 steps from the heart of Cozumel. 2) the place is BEAUTIFUL!!! See for yourself it is an idyllic paradise in the middle of the city! The grounds are manicured and immaculate. Lovely tropical setting. Millie the dog is an added bonus, she is cute as a bugs ear! 3) Magda is a phenomenal cook!!!! OMG, the breakfasts she prepared for me were spectacular; I looked forward to them every day! 4) my room was lovely. Immaculately clean, nice layout maybe somewhat dimly lit. I bought LED bulbs at the MEGA and that solved the problem - your welcome David!! 5) price was a bargain IMHO CONS - if these things do not bother you then this might be a good fit for you.... 1) website clearly states “This is an adults only BnB, no children under 18”. Then the Swiss Family Robinson moves into the unit above me with 4 kids all under the age of 16. Nope, that was it for this Hombre, I moved out the next day. (With a refund for my missed nights - thank you Magda- but no apology what so ever) 2) David has several bicycles for guests to use for free but the one I had was “rough” at best so what do I do? Well, I got some chain oil, again at Mega, and I lubed it and got it tuned. Did I get a thank you? What do you think? Nope. 3) being constantly “scolded” and spied upon by your hosts. “Don’t use our table to sit at” mind you this was the same table I was invited to have breakfast but after that I was made to feel like persona non grata. “Did you remember to turn your lights and AC off” I’m going for an effin’ walk and I’ll be back in 50 minutes - Really???!’ If they electric rate is that high that you feel compelled to look through your guests windows and see if “the AC light is on” then raise the price $10 a night but stop your constant whining! 4) complaining about one guest to the other guests . Again, really??? Did you think that they wouldn’t tell me? “That Pete, I’ve gotta constantly be in him about turning off his lights!!! In one way he is right, they were in fact MY LIGHTS since I bought them and put them in. Cost effective, energy efficient LEDs to improve the lighting do I could read at night - go check David, you know you did not buy those bulbs! OK, that’s my review. I gave them a 5 star because they are really decent people and I truly loved meeting them and I would feel guilty if I gave them their very first and only 3. I did enjoy my stay here up until the kids arrived, that was the final straw. Would I stay here again? NO! Never. Maybe under new management but I am an adult that does not appreciate being treated like a child. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.

Hi Pete, thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us. Thank you for giving us your good pros. We have to answer to your 4 cons, because every story has 2 sides. 1) although our website says "adults only", once in a blue moon we do accept the children of a returning guests, or the grandchildren of a frequent guest. In this case, one of the young fathers was a friend of ours who had come to stay with us several times with his wife; he asked me to come back with his children (for 4 nights) because his wife had died and he wanted to reconnect to Cozumel, and show the kids where he and his wife had great vacations......sorry that you feel so bothered by their presence, and I did apologize for that. 2) we ask our guests to choose a bike they want to use so David can have it ready for them the next day. 3) the only thing we ask our guests is to shut off the a/c when not in the room, and to close the windows when the a/c is on. Yes, electricity is expensive on this island, and we don't want to charge more to our guests. 4) David was not complaining at all! and by the way, you never told us you bought light bulbs...if you wanted new light bulbs, you could have asked and we would have replace them. We have been doing this, happily, for 12 years already. This place is our beloved home and our business, and we like to provide a peaceful and nice environment for our guests. We also know that hospitality business is a risky business...but we embrace it and we will keep doing it because we enjoy it....and no, Villa Escondida will never have new management, this is our home and we love it!

We stayed in the apartment (not the bed & breakfast) for a month in Feb/March of 2020. This is our review. I really struggled with how much to say in this review but decided to be completely honest since we rely heavily on reviews when we decide where to stay and I would have loved to know some of these things before we stayed there. The Good; - The bed was VERY comfortable!! - The apartment is a nice size with lots of storage. - The yard is very nice, pool isn't huge but it's nice. - The location is excellent, walking distance to many restaurants as well as the square. - Lots of parking in the back parking lot. - Magda bought a few things that we asked about that the apartment was missing. - Millie the dachshund is adorable! The Bad; - The water pressure is low in the bathroom but got a bit better after they finally realized it was plugged (with brown chunks of who knows what 🤮) and fixed it. - The water pressure in the kitchen is pretty much non existent and we never could get ANY hot water so we had to haul water from the bathroom and heat it on the stove to wash dishes. We assumed the owners didn't know about this until one day David said, "Ya, there's never been any hot water in the kitchen..." How did they expect us to wash the dishes? - We had a LOT of ants in the kitchen but they got someone to come treat for it and it worked. - We no sooner got rid of the kitchen ants and discovered more in the bedroom night table. - There were no batteries in the remotes - Missing bulbs in some of the lamps/lights - We asked for a garbage bag after we took out the garbage and were told that we needed to buy our own. - There are 4 keys that you need when you stay in the apartment (front door, back gate, door into house and door into suite). You need to carry the keys at all times, even when you are just by the pool or in the yard because the door into the house is locked all the time. This was difficult because we only had one set of keys so we had to be together all the time. - In order to get to the apartment you need to basically go through the owners house. This wouldn't be a big deal however MANY times when we would come down the stairs to leave, someone would immediately close the kitchen doors.  This made us feel like we were intruding and unwelcome. A quick "good morning" would be a much better approach! Final Verdict; The first 2 weeks were rough with ants, low water pressure, constant rules etc. We had 2 more weeks to go and a family with FOUR kids  came in to the B&B. We specifically asked when we booked and their website lists very clearly that this is a no kids rental. When we mentioned it, we were told that they occasionally allow kids and that this family were only going to be sleeping there. Unfortunately this wasn't true and there was a lot of noise from the kids. We would have left and stayed somewhere else (I even found another place with availability) but since we had already paid for the whole month up front, we couldn't justify paying for another place. The price is decent and we weren't expecting a 5 star resort, however I didn't expect to feel like I was camping, having to haul water and heat on the stove just to wash dishes. So if you can live with the things I've described,  go ahead and book this apartment! There are a lot of good things about it!

Traveler Petunia, thank you for taking the time to write about your stay at the apartment in our house; it was at the same time that your friend Pete stayed in one of the bedrooms of our B&B and wrote the previous review with his complaints. We really would have appreciated if you talked to us about all these things, about how you felt, instead of just blasting it here for us to find it and read it...we wouldn't do that, really, but that is just us..specially since the apartment is kind of new and you have been one of our first guests. When you rent for 1 month, you need to buy your garbage bags, your paper towels, or anything you need for your one-month stay; the kitchen had a starter of a few garbage bags and paper towels. You forgot to mention that we provided you with weekly housekeeping, supply of toilet paper, and washed and changed linens, towels and beach towels, We also told you (since the first time you came to look at the apartment before you book it) that the door to our kitchen was to remain closed at all times, for yours and ours privacy....you saw it, you knew it. The keys: 2 keys are for the apartment and 2 keys are for the back garden gate and door to the parking lot. You did not needed to have the keys at all times; you could have left doors unlock, nobody was going to go into the apartment....again, you never talked to us about it. I am sure the tiny ants (found everywhere on this island) were professionally exterminated within 3 days you asked for...and constant rules??? ...... by the way, not all Mexican kitchens have hot water in the faucets, sorry.....And the water pressure in the bathroom: sorry we had to replace the water heater while you were here; that caused the water pipes to plug......The family with kids that bothered you and your friend Pete, stayed with us only 4 nights, and as I wrote it before to Pete, he had lost his young wife and needed this vacation ...(and I did let you know they were coming). If you felt like you were camping, you should have left and we would have given you a refund, no problem!....we want visitors to Cozumel to enjoy their time on the island, not to suffer and feel bad about their vacation. Sorry to read about your bad experience with us, and everywhere you go....I have read your reviews, and boy! you still have not find the perfect place in Cozumel yet. Take care!
