Only the Caribbean’s most famous reef system could match the beauty and splendor of the Occidental Grand Cozumel, which is exactly why the two exist side-by-side. Located on Cozumel’s gorgeous San Francisco beach, just above the bottomless blue paradise of the Palancar Reef system, you’ll find an authentic-style state that delivers all the luxuries of a private oceanside hacienda. Gourmet dining, bright and airy rooms, nightly music and entertainment, daily sports and beach activities and an on-site spa and salon make the Occidental grand Cozumel the jewel of any Caribbean experience.

One of our "must go" places on this earth. Been here several times, every time we pull into the main gate I feel as if we are home from a long trip. From Kinga Bartha(First Club Manager) down to the grounds keepers, all employees here are top notch! They all feel like family you want to see again! We are Royal Club members and cannot say enough about how wonderful Tomas Palacios and the staff at the Royal Club restaurant are! These guys and their work ethic and dedication to serving guest is over the top. The food they prepare is AMAZING! The spa is a must if you stay here. We always get a couples massage and walk down the stairs afterward feeling like a wet noodle!! Book your trip. I won't keep rambling. Love these people, love this place, I go few places that feel like home. Thank you for making this my home in Mexico.

Hotel's Favorite
This is Cozumel, so the fact that the beach, snorkeling and scuba diving are excellent is usually taken for granted. Add to those this great hotel, with spacious rooms, excellent showers, amazingly good restaurants, and high-quality entertainment, and you get a perfect vacation. Do get the Royal Level - it costs a little more, but then you get personal attention from the separate Royal Level check-in team, which is always there for you and is truly friendly (yes, a separate check-in desk with a concierge just for a couple dozen rooms or so). With the Royal Level you would get access to a very private separate restaurant, perhaps the best one in the hotel. Plus, you get free room service (yes, free), free wi-fi, and creature comfort things like bathrobes and slippers, extra warm towels every night, etc. And the Royal Level desk has a couple of bookshelves stuffed with books, free small snacks and drinks throughout the day, separate source of beach towels, etc. The negatives are very few: the all-stone construction of the hotel makes some of the sounds carry far, so you do hear your upstairs neighbor move chairs, but you do not hear quieter sounds like conversations and TVs. They do not have fitted sheets in Mexico it seems, so every now and then you have to fix the lower sheet on your bed. Regarding meals, we found the restaurants to be markedly better than the buffet for dinner: our advice is to book restaurants for all dinners, which is not hard to do. This was our 4th time on Cozumel, and this is the best hotel we have stayed at on the island. Special thanks go to Emma, Margarita, Milix, and Jesus for making this a truly wonderful vacation!

This was our second stay at Occidental in Cozumel. Though the stay was good and very relaxing, we did notice that the resort was in need of maintenance. The staff was very accommodating, but it appeared there was not enough staff on hand.

The overall stay was good, grounds are beautiful, adult pools area real plus. Food was average. The rooms are in major need of updating. Nothing went wrong that wasn't fixed quickly. A/C was perfect. They also need a better service for their Cable. Not very many channels to choose from while in the room. Our cleaning lady was awesome , cleaned the room every morning before we got back from diving. The Dive Shop staff was great, took care of everything each day, any issues were resolved quickly. I would use Pro Dive again as my Diving choice. Need to open the bars before 12:00 pm, it is all inclusive, so I didn't get why they wouldn't serve cocktails before 12:00 pm ??

This was our second stay at the Occidental Cozumel, October 4-10, and I dare say it was even better than the first. I have to backtrack, as my satisfaction started with great communication by Gabriela Gaeta, the Guest Experiences Manager (sorry were unable to formally meet) when I decided I wanted to both upgrade my reservation to the Royal Level (we had booked through a third party) and purchase the beach sunset dinner for my wife and I. Ms. Gaeto was quick to reply and made sure everything was set up for our arrival. Room Shout out to the concierge (didn’t get his name unfortunately) who carted us over from the entrance to the Royal Level office which is deep into the property, as well as randomly offering us rides to the lobby bar over the course of our stay. Our room was very nice, the AC worked great, and the location was perfect. No complaints. Extra water was left each day, along with a couple beers. A huge thank you to Margarita at the Royal Level office for all of her help and your wonderful cheerfulness. Whenever we needed anything, she was happy to take care of us. Food: It was probably the lowest of the low season, so it was very quiet and some nights the main buffet was not open. However, we had no problems booking dinner reservations for those nights. The newsletter each morning noted which restaurants were open for dinner, so you had ample time to make a reservation if needed. LaCarreta: This is the Royal Level restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You need reservations for dinner. Breakfast there was really good. It’s ala cart, so plan on spending some time there. We ate lunch there one day while it was raining, but most of the time we were at the beach and simply utilized the buffet. Dinner there was really good, and worth the Royal Level upcharge. Heck the AC at La Carreta is worth it! The lunch buffet was good. We had no problems finding plenty to fill up on. We also ate at the Mexican and Mediterranean restaurants, with the Mediterranean being the better of the two. A special shout out to Alberto who was our server for the romantic beach dinner, and took care of us at many more meals, always quick to welcome us, get us seated, and make sure we didn’t wait for anything. Hard worker and good dude! As for the beach dinner, it was WELL worth it. We couldn’t even come close to finishing. We were each served a large bowl of soup that was delicious, but I have no idea what it was, a large Caesar’s salad with shrimp, and a surf-n-turf main that was far more food than I had expected. I’m guessing an 8 ounce lobster tail and around and 8 ounce filet that was the most tender, tasty steak I’ve ever had in the Yucuatan. One note for ordering steak in this region that I’ve learned by trial and error: If you like medium rare, order medium well and you’ll get medium rare. Anything, and I mean anything ordered under medium well will be delivered to you rare. We also had a slice of cheesecake for desert. It was far more food than I expected and really good. Well worth the upcharge for a nice evening with your loved one. Drinks: When you have the wonderful Reyna taking care of you, you can’t go wrong. Just a note that the pool and lobby bars don’t start alcohol service until noon. I’m telling you at 11:45 Reyna had picked up our cups and ensured our first drinks were there immediately when they started service. It didn’t matter if we were on the loungers, or in the water, she would swing by and drop off refills, even walking up to the water’s edge to drop off drinks if we were enjoying the Caribbean. No complaints regarding drinks or drink service. The guys in the lobby bar were great as well. Even when the lobby bar was busy they were quick to get to us. I didn’t get their names, unfortunately, but they did a great job. The grounds were just as beautiful this time as the last, and it’s a big reason this resort feels so cozy. Full of various critters and foliage, and one of the best walks to a beach you’ll find, surrounded by the mangroves. The beach and water are beautiful, and a main reason we return to this resort, but as I mentioned when we stayed here last year, the people really put it over the top. I feel like I’m leaving some people out of the praise parade I’ve got going here, but seriously, the Occidental Cozumel probably has the best staff of people we’ve encountered over many visits to Cancun, Playa and Cozumel, some even noting that they remembered us from last year, which was our first stay. It won’t be our last.

First and foremost I would like to thank you for the praising review you shared following your recent visit to the occidental Cozumel and I am delighted to read that I was able to match your expectations with my service even when sadly we did not have the opportunity to meet. On the other hand I would like to thank you for your kind words towards our staff, especially regarding the royal level reception and the bell boys. As all of them work very hard, striving to surpass guest expectations, I will definitely pass on your satisfaction with their services. They will surely celebrate that you wrote that they were very nice and most helpful. We know that meals are an important aspect of our guests' overall holiday expérience in our hotels, this is why our team of Chefs prepare for each service delicacies to cater for all diet requirements and please the most demanding palates, we are therefore very pleased that we could satisfy yours. Thank you for your very nice compliments for our team, they do work very hard every day to make sure our guests feel well attended to at all times and definitely are an asset to our hotel.
