This hotel engages in a lot of false advertising and bait and switch. There is not 7 restaurants to choose from, there is not top shelf alcohol if you get Royal level. The staff is miserable and it shows.

We had the Royal Level and loved it. The food was very good at this level. Did not eat at the buffet. Service was very good everywhere. Beach is very nice. Yes. There is some eroding but overall still a very nice beach. The only complaint is the air-conditioning. Average temperature in room was 22-25c We will definitely book this place again.

The staff was friendly and very responsive. They were very helpful and ready to accomodate. Property had many relaxing spaces and the food at the restaurants were exceptional! Room air conditioning and in buffet dinning area could have been better as it was a very hot few days, but since it was a heat wave not experienced there before, I can understand why not prepared for this. Food in fine dinning restaurant lived up to the name of fine dinning cuisine.

Easy check in process. Enjoyed the buffet every day and every meal. The pools were just cool enough but not freezing. Really enjoy Mexican national day celebration. Great service and great employees. Housekeeping is fast and great. Will come back.

I have spent my 2 wk vacation here w my husband every year for last 10 years (excluding covid year). My stay this year from Sept 6 thru 15th. As always, staff is very friendly. The grounds are always well kept. Last year, everyone in my party became very ill as most of the resort guests. This year, my family stayed at a different resort and reported fabulous beaches and amazing food. Being a creature of habit, I decided to come back this year with my husband.Unfortunately, the beach has eroded and the sad palm tree roots are exposed. The biggest disappointment this year was the food. It appears this hotel is more interested in saving money than putting out decent food on the buffet as well as the cheapest alcohol in the sugary drinks. I am not much of a complainer but the buffet has clearly dropped a few notches. We ended up going to town for dinner on several occasions. I will not be staying here next year.

We traveled to the Occidental as a family of five. Two adults and three young adult children. We had two rooms. We went primarily for the beach- Excellent Mexican food and scuba diving. The beach was terrible at this resort. The food was horrible. The only good Mexican food we had was the night we took a taxi Into Cozumel and ate at a local restaurant. I don’t even think the food is cooked on site. I think it’s cooked somewhere else and brought in. There are absolutely no options to eat. This resort also allows cruise ship passengers to come and hang out for the day. We met over 100 people in the seven days we were there who had the same flu like virus. Vomiting, diarrhea and cramps for 24 hours. Three of the people in our family became violently ill on day three. It lasted 12 to 24 hours. The other two family members had mild gastro issues. The resort was well aware of the situation. There were even elderly people vomiting in the pool area because they couldn’t make it back to the room. It would come on very suddenly and violently. I honestly think this is the type of place that should be shut down by the government. Probably the cruise ship passengers were bringing, the virus onto the resort. The only positive thing I can say is that the rooms were comfortable and the scuba diving instructors were excellent. We have traveled all over the world as a family and this is one of the most disappointing resorts we’ve ever stayed at. It’s also the first time our children have ever gotten sick traveling. I’ve actually never seen them so violently ill From the flu. We even consulted the doctor at the resort who told us it was everywhere on the resort. And every week the people who came contracted it. He even recommended a course of antibiotics. I would not recommend this resort.

Currently writing this from my room and am here in low season. The resort, is listed as being 4.5 on some websites and 5 star on others. I'd say it's a 3.5 - 4. Upon arrival check in is smooth and efficient. Hotel grounds are really lovely and I particularly like the mangrove area (even though it brings in the most incredible number of mozzies - tip - pack bug spray!). Good points Rooms are large and although dated, are absolutely fine - AC works a treat. There's everything you need in them for a decent stay. Beds and pillows are really comfy. Loved the ease of the room key bracelet although not fond on the exchange card for a pool towel routine. Pool area is busy and there are plenty of loungers and umbrellas for use. The beach area could do with more umbrellas as shade is limited.. Areas are clean and tidy although not sure how crowded it would feel if the hotel was at maximum capacity. Staff floating around to take drink orders with a smile. The beach and swimming is sensational and the dive school are really helpful. Can see rays and lots of fish straight from the beach which is great. Don't forget your snorkels. The water is crystal clear and to die for. Breakfast and lunch are served at the beach hut - so lunch with a view. The food was really good at both sittings with lots of choices between hot and cold and lots of fresh fruits. Lots of choice, replenished frequently and very tasty. Could get busy at times but staff work hard and efficiently to turn things over quickly Bad Bits You have to book their restaurants otherwise it's the buffet (the evening buffet is pretty ghastly) and you are entitled to certain amount of bookings dependent on how many nights you stay. I have 7 nights so this is 3 bookings. I had dinner at the beach bar seafood restaurant last night - food is ok but inconsistent. I had the Duo of Shrimp listed as being 'marinated and breaded shrimp with chipotle sauce, accompanied by rice and coriander' which I assumed would be just that. It's a romantic setting so pretty dark (and take bug spray, they will eat you alive as you dine) so I couldn't really seen what I was eating. The breaded shrimp was lovely then I got to the marinated shrimp. I couldn't quite put my finger on the taste until I got to the last one and found a bit of fat in my mouth - it was only then I realised the shrimp was wrapped in bacon. Now this is a huge problem when you don't eat bacon/pork in general (like me). I checked with the waitress and she confirmed it was indeed bacon. I quietly asked why it wasn't listed on the menu but she didn't know. My dinner guests couldn't believe how well I took this - I think I was just a bit in shock. Having thought about it all day, this evening I took myself off to reception (literally ten minutes ago) and politely informed the lady on reception about what happened and I asked her to please ensure any meat products/ingredients are listed on the menu - not a big ask really. Particularly this day and age in light of allergies, religious requirements or just personal choices - people need to be able to make informed decisions about what they are choosing to eat. There was no-one else around, and it certainly wasn't a Karen type moment. I was shocked when the response back to me was that I needed to speak to the restaurant about it personally. Yep. Seriously. I need to talk to the restaurant. Me. I mean surely the right way to deal with this, after having the menu shown to you and finding out that someone who hasn't eaten pork in years, accidentally ate it because the menu failed to mention it being a key ingredient would be to apologise and say they would get that fixed, asap. But nope, it was my responsibility to talk to the restaurant. I mean if I want to talk to the restaurant, I'd ask them what part of marinated shrimp meant wrapped in bacon?! I didn't know what to say so I said 'ok' and walked off, again in a bit of shock. Second not so great bit, tonight about 6pm I was swimming when I heard three sharp blows of a whistle and the lifeguard waving at me and everyone to come in. I got excited thinking it might be a shark but no, it was the lifeguard saying everyone had to come in from the beach as he was going home. This is a little ridiculous. Whilst I appreciate the lifeguard needs to go home, how about putting up a sign or something saying no lifeguard on duty, swim at own risk? I was swimming because the sky was a gorgeous pink colour as the sun was just going down. There were lots of guest just milling by the shore in the water, but we were all told to get out (take bug spray down there honestly these beasts will savage you both in and out of the water) and no-one really could believe that they had to pack up and go. It's a beach resort, priding itself on catering to a dive crowd who can, you know, swim. I've been getting up early to swim before breakfast but apparently this is also against the rules - which are the beach/sea is only open when the lifeguard is present. This seems a little extreme. I'd like to point out it is not, in any way, shape or form the fault of the lifeguard who is just doing his job. People are here for the beach location so please let them enjoy it. Back to good bits - the staff here are wonderful and work really hard. I mean really really hard. Cleaning and maintenance staff don't stop, bar staff - no matter how busy they are - are friendly and accomodating and servers are all polite. I also loved the wildlife here: from the gorgeous birds to the coatis which roam free and the huge lizards. This was a highlight for me. So to summarise (and with a day or so to go) - it's a decent hotel with good facilities and hardworking staff. However my stay will be remembered for totally the wrong reasons - an unacceptable and completely avoidable incident which literally has left a bad taste in my mouth. ps - This is aimed at other guests - please don't steal the conch shells. I watched a family take three huge shells today - shells which have been in the same spot all week. Shells which most guests, picked up, admired and then put back. But nope, this family nabbed all three and just walked off with them without an ounce of shame. Terrible really.

Absolutely amazing vacation! My 1st time at this resort (3rd time in Cozumel... this resort is my fave). I can't wait to go back. I was there for 6 nights, Aug 30 - Sept 5. I decided to splurge and pay the bit extra to try Royal--a Junior Suite was available. (I've stayed at the Xcaret property a couple of times, but never in Royal, so I was a Royal newbie). Wow! The room is stunning, with a separate living/dining room w/ it's own TV and balcony. The bedroom had another balcony with the most comfortable bed and pillows, and a luxurious bathroom. The mini-fridge was restocked daily with water, a variety of soda, and beer. The entire resort is gorgeous... set in the jungle abutting a lovely (though, yes, eroded beach, courtesy of a hurricane a year ago). Still plenty of beach seating... and never had trouble grabbing a seat at the pool either. The staff are constantly cleaning the grounds, and it shows. As for Royal experience... absolutely royal service and treatment. Wow! The service was top-Notch, and the food in the Royal-only restaurant was amazing. I'm going to try to do Royal from now on. The Mahi filet at lunch is some of the best I've ever had, and it's my favorite fish, so I've had it often. At dinner, I love the seafood soup at night (it's slightly spicy with shrimp and calimari). At dinner, the Chipotle shrimp and the Filet Mignon were delicious. The breakfast Enchilada trio was delicious, as were the chillaquillas and the French Toast. The non-Royal food was outstanding too...I loved the Shrimp Two Ways at the seafood restaurant, and the fajitas at the Mexican restaurant were great. The buffet was great for lunch. I think this is some of the best food I've ever had at an all-inclusive. A HUGE thank you to all of the staff.

Our primary goal was to use the pro dive shop located at this resort during our stay. That worked out really well. The dive shop is great and if you intend to dive here then i do recommend it, check out it's own reviews to learn about it. The room size was OK for two beds (3 people staying in the room), it was reasonable but nothing special. The bathroom however was a large space and well maintained, that was a surprise and a nice one. Balcony very small, not really functional. Fortunately, no reason to stay in the room during our stay. The food was mediocre, the buffet was mediocre although it is hard to expect more from a normal style buffet. There was really no surprises here. The pizza bar upstairs after hours was a nice touch and we used it one late night, although, you cannot have a beer there ( I still don't understand that part, maybe it was too late, we never got an explanation). The restaurants that you must book are reasonable but nothing to shout about, definitely better than the buffet. The pool and the beach are nice areas but these get very crowded, there is little shade overall if you are not there early. It would be nice for more shaded areas. Pleasant overall. Service was good, no issues and value for money was there for an all inclusive resort. For us the diving made all the difference as it was very convenient.
