Grand Park Royal Cozumel offers a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, celebrated for its prime location with easy beach access and nearby shopping opportunities. However, guests have called out varying room experiences, noting comfortable beds but also issues with air conditioning, cleanliness, and maintenance.
While the hotel's cleanliness generally earns praise, the value proposition is questioned, with some travelers pointing to overpriced services and low-quality food. Amenities and service receive mixed feedback, with commendations for snorkeling options but critiques on lounging facilities and inconsistent service.

Detailed Reviews
Just returned from the Grand Park Feb 04,2020,a group of 8.
This resort is a 45 minute brisk walk from downtown.
There is shopping for souvenirs right beside the resort,at an outdoor mall. All you’ll need, with a great photo spot and a Tequila museum. The mall is right in front of the cruise port.
The resort is very clean, service was great, heard they were 75% full.
The a la carte restaurants are no longer line up and reserve each morning, now you go to any of the 3 restaurants you like when you want and take your chances. Worked out fine for our group of 4 couples. If full, they have a waiting list.
The buffet had good service, food was okay at best.
The one great improvement was the WiFi on the resort worked everywhere on the resort and was fast.
Beach seats filled up fast but we were always able to find a seat or lounger.Great small cove to snorkel, pools were clean but cool in temperature at about 80f.Pool side bar beverage service is very good.
The rooms are clean, beds alittle hard but pillows are bigger than last year. Our room in #2 building was made up by noon each day.Maid service and in room bar replenishment was excellent.
Walking around the resort is only for the sure footed,as the surfaces are uneven.
Not sure we will return as the food served was disappointing.
But this is a better hotel than the El Coz.The location is great.
Not too many off location dining choices close.
A small Hard Rock Cafe is next door.Other off resort dining choices are in the cruise port, that are closed when ships are not in port.A couple sea side diners are nearby, but close early.

There are so many things that I can say about this resort but most are negative.
Cons:
1)Main elevators don't work. 9 floors of rooms and 2 service elevators. I heard from regular "vacation club members" that this is a common occurrence in this place.
2)Food is mediocre at best, exception is the Italian restaurant. The irony.
3) Cleaning - rooms were clean, they will make you use hand sanitizer when you enter a room or the resort itself but don't clean the beach beds or chairs between people so ...
4) Check in is a nightmare. Booked a family suite. Told it wasn't available. Multiple families afterward were told the same thing. Then suddenly when I asked for a refund, it became available. I don't care for those games at all.
5) The entertainment is lackluster but it's sure loud and can be heard from your room even with doors shut until well after 10pm. I pity the people that traveled with small children.
6) The vendors onsite are way overpriced and very pushy. They need to be taught that no means no.
7) The walls / doors / windows are not very sound proof. We could hear the family above us when they sneezed and dragged chairs and walked heavy. The hallways are an echo chamber. Does not make for a "relaxing" vacation in my opinion.
8) repairs in the 2 of the 3 rooms we had were needed. Leaking faucet, shower door that wouldn't stay closed so water flooded the bathroom floor, door lock that worked half the time but not the other half, missing laundry line in the shower, and then fridge that didn't work in one room. With COVID and reduced capacity, you'd think they'd take the opportunity to tune up the areas that needed work but apparently not. They are all busy trying to sell you the vacation club.
9) Adults only area is next to the beach and all you can hear is screaming kids.
10) Hot tubs were not functioning or available
11) Beach bed service was spotty
12) Beds are hard - not our preference
Pros:
1) within walking distance of the Plaza
2) drinks were decent
3) coffee shop is the bright spot. They have ice cream (when their freezer is working) and snacks and the ladies that work in there are by far the most pleasant.

We ended up booking a stay at this hotel for only one night in order to catch our Royal Caribbean cruise the following morning. We were a family of three including my wife, 5 y.o son and myself. We've been to many hotels and this includes my 5 y.o and even he was impressed with this hotel. The lobby has a very tall ceiling designed after the traditional roofs of the Mayan region, lobby and grounds were all beautiful and spotless. The service from check in, bell desk, valet, restaurant were all friendly, courteous and efficient. The bellman even helped to carry our bags from the hotel to across the street since pulling all three ourselves would have proved challenging. Been to Riu's many times and like them but this hotel is better.

We have never stayed in a resort where customer service was nonexistent! Front desk staff was rude & incompetent! We waited 1 & 1/2 hours to check in only to be told it would be another hour or so to get a room. We requested both rooms be on the same floor because we are a family of 5
We were separated by several floors and when I complained to the front desk their response was unless your travel agent placed a written order we will not accommodate your wishes & when I asked to speak to a manager I was told the answer would be the same! After we finally got rooms we waited another hour for our luggage! They have a “ hospitality/ welcome committee “ which is code for voltures trying to shove their timeshare/ club membership down your throat! The welcome committee held the map to the resort hostage for 45 minutes of his rude, persistent offers of 90 minute presentation. Every time we entered the lobby the volutures circled us and would not leave us alone about their stupid timeshare. Our 9 year old daughter was nervous about going anywhere near the entrance. Those men where very ill behaved!
The staff would completely ignore you if you did not wave dollar bills! Housekeeping did not leave toilet paper or bathing supplies. We had to call multiple times per day to get anything. Our mini bar was never stocked!

Resort was kept clean. Bar staff were knowledgeable on drink recipes. Rooms were attended to and always clean and well done. The resort has not yet reached the 'tired' look although we'd be hesitant to say it was 'fresh'. However, front desk staff could use some refresher training in customer care. The property is divided into the hotel area and the beach area by a road but thankfully, the designers of the resort provided an underpass and have blended in the surrounding so that you would never know there was a public road running through the middle of the property. Security at this hotel (or the surrounding area) was never an issue for us and we never felt uncomfortable.
One annoyance was the regular time share sales pitches. This started the moment we arrived. After we checked in we were told that to get a map of the resort we should go to a particular desk there in the lobby. We didn't get one because the time share sales pitch was more than the need of the map justified.
By far the biggest issue was the food. It had been reported in some reviews to be poor. Our first meals were quite good and tasty and we thought this had been corrected. But... then we had one meal where we wondered what drugs the chef might be on - one was bland and the other super spicy. Our advice would be to leave that restaurant and try one of the others. We suspect there may be one questionable chef being rotated around. Breakfast was also hit and miss. One time getting an omelet, it was clear the person had no idea how to make one. Service was sometimes very slow in the buffet, regardless of the number of tables being occupied.
Overall, we got around the food issue by going to another restaurant and the sales pitches by firmly saying no. We suspect that other resorts there have similar issues. For us, the visit was pleasant and we enjoyed ourselves.

Disappointing stay. Have been here 3-4 other times and will not return. Food options sparse and repetitive. Lots of filler and not much good meat options. Lots of pasta and the same potatoes every day. Same food everyday and meal to meal not much difference in selection between breakfast, lunch and dinner each day.. Salad dressing was a hit and a miss if they'd put it out. Long lines if you want omelettes and the line blocks the rest of the buffet because they only open one side for omelette station. Spent more money outside of the resort for food than we have on any other stay because we got so tired of always eating the same exact thing daily 3 times a day. Hot water is a hit and miss most days we had cold showers. Staff not very friendly other than the waiters and bartenders and activity staff. We got many sighs and eyerolls when asking for the basics of food at the cooking stations, or towels, and really just the basics of what you need while you stay there. Not all rinse stations were working at the beach area which was inconvenient. Pretty beach area. Nice pools. Traveled with a group of family and friends and me and my son had many issues with flights and had no phone service. Had to use wifi calling to communicated. When my boyfriend checked in he told the staff that and asked if he could connect to wifi to check in on my messages so he'd know what time to pick me up from the port as I had to fly to Cancun instead of Cozumel and take a bus and then ferry to get over. They told him no and that he'd have to wait until his room was ready. He even tried the manager and concierge. Nobody would help him connect to wifi for just a few minutes to check messages or to send a chat. That was so unacceptable. So, he had to wait at the port for 4 hours so he wouldn't miss my arrival. You can't tell me someone couldn't have helped him connect and then disable that password when he was done. We are not high maintenance at all, but do expect to be treated nicely and feel welcomed by staff at our resorts and not as a bother when we pay $2250 for a vacation. They have really gone downhill since our last stay and we will spend our money elsewhere next year as we go each year.

Having rarely stayed at all inclusive during the 14 times we’ve visited Cozumel over the years, we were thoroughly impressed with our overall experience at Park Royal. It is a class act with the utmost professionals at every level. Every staff member was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and attentive to all needs. Our room was safely and thoroughly cleaned, the front desk/ security were available and helped us access ice late at night after a small injury, staff throughout the property were committed to their role and the various restaurants, cafe, and bars provided quality, creative and inventive food and drinks to not just satisfy the palate but enhance the overall dining experience. Being able to be picked up at the pier helped us access scuba diving, while enjoying a safe, restful and wonderful vacation. The professionalism and kindness is above and beyond, while offering ongoing activities to entertain. Thank you! Be well, stay safe, healthy and active.

We love the beauty of the island and surroundings! We were not happy with the resort from the minute we checked in. We arrived at 3:50 pm and did not have a room, were told to wait 30 minutes and it would be ready. They told us to go with guest services so they could explain the resorts ins and outs, yes that happened but what they didn’t say was that you would be pressured into agreeing on a 90 minute meeting the next day for their club. When I did not agree to this the person was visibly upset and became rude! I’m sorry but I don’t want to give up 90 minutes of my vacation for something I don’t want. One night the housekeeper came at 6pm to clean the room I had just gotten out of the shower and told her to give me five minutes, she never came back to clean. I had to call for toilet tissue, shampoo and body wash two days out of my 6 day stay. We had 3 people In our room so those little bottles don’t last. I know it is high time but the service is lacking. Restaurant service is only good when you show money, so basically tip big so you get good service or you will be forgotten. We have traveled to different resorts throughout Mexico and this by far has been our worst service experience.

My second visit to Cozumel but my husband has been here many times at different resorts for scuba dive.
This resort is cute, small enough so you don’t have to take a train from hotel to the beach, nice rooms, spacious and clean, beds are great but the pillows are hard and uncomfortable. I have a neck pain because of it. Toilet didn’t work properly and I would think that is a priority, the hot water needs a 10min run before it arrives in the shower and we were on the 4th floor. Small issues but nevertheless good ones..
We had a small cute balcony with a partial ocean view. Overall the room was great!
The beach!
Too small, not enough chairs and they are hard plastic not mesh. Very crowded beach, loud with no privacy. People all stuffed on back to back chairs that you might not get unless you go and grab them first thing in the morning before breakfast which starts at 7:00am.
Not good for a swim as it looks like a small cove where everyone is crowded trying to snorkel and the bottom is full of rocks where you can easily get hurt as I did... My swim adventure stopped really quick.
There is a nice coffee shop with ice cream and nice espresso in the resort right before you get in the beach. That was a nice surprise!
Food was not so good... I am not picky but I didn’t really enjoy anything except the fish and chips at the seafood restaurant on the beach.
A la carte restaurants are on a first come first serve basis but really crowded and noisy, rushed but the food is better.
After dinner there are shows and events which are nice but if you want to sit down and have a relaxing evening.. good luck to you finding a seat.
There are about 8-10 chairs on the resort lower level close to all restaurants and a few more by the reception area... there are more than 500 people capacity resort so you do that math.
The staff is very nice and hard working, polite and very helpful. Enjoyed their smiles everyday and that made it better.
Overall I like the resort and I would be very happy and give this resort a 4 stars if the beach was better.

Service: Everyone is super nice, even better if you treat them with respect, a smile and small tip. No complaints, they are hard working and attentive.
Entertainment: Staff is joyful and super engaging. Night shows and activities are fun and entertaining. They had an aquatic show at the pool which was amazing.
Cleanliness: grounds are kept super clean, the hotel is quite beautiful, so are the beach and pool areas. Public washrooms are cleaned regularly.
Covid measures: very minimal. They don’t take everyone’s temperature when entering the restaurant, don’t really enforce the use of gloves at the buffet. Kind of enforce wearing the mask when walking around, but not always. Never saw them wiping down guard rails, door knobs or chairs. The reusable plastic glasses at the beach are “soaked” in soap and rinsed, DO BRING YOUR OWN refillable bottles.
Food: Repetitive and bland. The worst I have had in Mexico. Restaurants are not worth the long wait, though the food is actually good, the portions are so small, we had to go the buffet after our dinner. We ended up going to local restaurants, that was great.
Rooms: Definitely a difference between 2nd floor and 8th, the latter being cleaner, better maintained and bigger. Servicing for beverages, towels and house cleaning are on the spot though, no complaints, again the staff are very good.
Beach: cute but very very small. There are beautiful seaside pools, and the areas around them provide lounging chairs, bars and snack bars. We spent all our days there, absolutely loved it.
AirCanada representatives at the hotel, 2 words: good luck. Horrible service, they’re never there, don’t answer their messages and unless you buy excursions from them they don’t give a hoot about you. We had issues with transportation from the airport, we couldn’t find them and ended up being scammed for a 60$ taxi ride. Same going back to the airport, we had to follow up on our shuttle because it was late. We also had major problems getting our PcR test results, horrible experience. Word of advice, download WhatsApp and get their numbers as soon as possible when you get there.

The parking lot or out at the street. The Grand Park Royal is a non smoking or VAPING zone.
It is a small private beach. You can snorkel on the reef at the beach.
Not to my knowledge. I took a shared shuttle service with a 'hotel route' for about $15. I would just take a taxi next time that had straight service from the airport to the hotel' JMAC
