Nestled in a secluded, picturesque location, Iberostar Waves Cozumel is celebrated for its proximity to prime dive spots and features a tranquil atmosphere with lush wildlife. Guests commend the hotel for its cleanliness and the attentive service, although some have noted inconsistencies in service response times. While the amenities, including food variety and diving facilities, are generally appreciated, there have been concerns about the room conditions and restricted beach access. THE SETUP
We traveled June 11th to June 18th to the Iberostar Cozumel. My wife and I have been to the Riviera Maya several times and wanted something different. With all of the reports of sargassum on the ‘mainland’...we had heard that the West side of Cozumel had no sargassum…so we chose Cozumel! It was a trip to celebrate our 34th Anniversary, and it was just the two of us. Our travel agent recommended the Iberostar Cozumel…and it did not disappoint!

ARRIVAL
We flew American Airlines out of Kansas City…connecting through Dallas/Ft Worth. Our plane had a maintenance issue after we boarded in Dallas and our departure was delayed nearly 1 hour. I think that’s what caused a bit of a back up in Customs at the Cozumel airport upon arrival. But, the airport is small enough that it only took about 45 minutes to clear the airport. We found our Amstar transportation rep out in front of the hotel and only had a short wait prior to leaving for our resort…only enough time for one quick cerveza before getting on the van. Cozumel is small enough that it was only about a 25 minute drive to the resort.
The front desk staff at the Iberostar couldn’t have been sweeter…and they were super helpful. We immediately felt welcomed and valued. The bellman took us directly to our room on a golf cart…and we were all set.

THE ROOM
We were room 3503. The location was PERFECT. We were about equal distance from the beach and the lobby and main restaurant…neither direction was more than a 4 or 5 minute walk. The room was ‘no frills’ but was very clean and neat and exactly what we needed! Even though we didn’t use it, the minifridge was well stocked. The resort provided re-usable glass water bottles for the filtered water…and we had a refill station right next to our building/room. The air conditioner was great..and our room stayed cool the whole trip! Great sleeping!

THE STAFF
We thought the staff at the resort was awesome. Top notch!! EVERY staff member we encountered was polite and helpful. Every time we went to eat, we were welcomed with smiles and an obvious eagerness to help. When we made our reservations for the a la carte restaurants, I casually mentioned that Friday was our actual anniversary. We ate at the SmokeHouse on Friday…and they escorted us to a special table that they had ‘decorated’ specifically for us and they all wished us a happy anniversary. We thought this was extra special since I had only mentioned it in passing.

When you’re there for a week, you start to develop a relationship with some of the staff. By the 3rd night, the waitress at the lobby bar knew that we wanted a glass of Bailey’s on the Rocks after dinner...so she would bring them to us as soon as she saw us. (By the way…for those of you who don’t… I encourage you to take a stack of $1 bills with you to these resorts and tip the staff when they provide a service to you. I know they say you don’t ‘need’ to…but, it’s such an easy way to show appreciation for the work being done.)

THE BEACH
The beach was awesome! I don’t think the resort was super crowded, and we never had any trouble finding 2 loungers near a palapa or other shade. There was lots of “chair-saving” going on every day…but, we still had great luck finding a perfect spot each day, even after we’d gone to breakfast and didn’t arrive at the beach until 9:00am or 9:30am. The sand on the beach was PERFECT..exactly what you expect when going to Mexico! The first 20 or 30 feet in the water had some rocks on the bottom, so water shoes are helpful. But, if you go over to the pier and get in the water there, the bottom is smooth and perfect. And the water was amazing. CRYSTAL clear and very warm! And there were very few waves all week long. The water only got wavy when a boat passed by. I took a snorkel and spent a little time snorkeling around the pier and saw thousands of fish and a couple of rays as well.

ACTIVITES
We didn’t participate in the ‘on-resort’ activities, but we saw the “entertainment staff” having a great time with the games and activities at the pool and throughout the resort. The shows at night were pretty typical for the resorts in Mexico. Manage your expectations and just go and be entertained after dinner each night.

We DID get off the resort a couple of times. One day we took a 10 minute cab ride into the town..it was just $20 each way. We did some shopping down around where the ferry docks. We loved the fact that it’s still pretty laid back and is not yet blowing up ‘commercially’ like 5th Ave in Playa Del Carmen.

We also took a day to rent a jeep to tour the island on our own! AND there was an Alamo Rental Car rep AT the resort (Cesar)! So, we were able to reserve one without going back into town. It was AWESOME. We drove to the Eco-Park at Punta Sur for starters and went up the Lighthouse. We saw the crocodiles as well. We HIGHLY recommend this little side trip. Then we drove the perimeter of the island on the “wild side”. The scenery is amazing and you REALLY feel like you’re off the beaten path. That side of the island feels very uninhabited and remote. We stopped for a cold drink and tacos at Mezcalitos! It was amazing. Great view!

And, finally…we booked a snorkeling excursion through our on-resort Amstar rep. They picked us up right off the pier on the beach. It was INCREDIBLE. We have snorkeled many times on the mainland and in the Dominican Republic…but, this excursion blew those away!!! We saw EVERYTHING!! The coral reef was gorgeous! The water was CRYSTAL clear…almost like air! We saw our first shark ‘in the wild’ (nurse shark)…we saw several sea turtles….DOZENS of sting rays… barracuda…star fish… and thousands of other gorgeous tropical fish! We stopped at a sand bar for snacks and stood in waste-deep water about 200-300 yards from shore with rays swimming all around us. Then they dropped us off right back at the pier at the resort. It was a GREAT trip!!!! HIGHLY recommend it.

THE FOOD/DRINKS
Overall, we all thought the food was excellent. We had seen some reviews that mentioned the food as a ‘negative’…but, that wasn’t our experience at all. We’re not picky eaters at all, and we always found plenty of options to get our fill. We did all 3 of the a la carte restaurants. This resort is a little smaller than a few that we’ve stayed at on the mainland…and there weren’t as many choices at the a la cartes..but, the food we got was good. The Mexican restaurant was our favorite.

The main restaurant was plentiful, both at breakfast and dinner. We like to try different foods when we travel…and everything we tried was very good. We usually just grabbed some chips and guac or a hamburger and fries at the beach bar in the afternoon to hold us over until dinner.

The drinks were easily accessible and plentiful. We’re not big drinkers…but, we like to have a cerveza and a pina colada throughout the day. We were never more than a few steps from an eager staff member to get us a drink.

THE RESORT
We LOVED this resort! It was adorable and quaint. The bright and colorful buildings were beautiful! The grounds were kept very clean, tidy and well-manicured. The foliage was beautiful and well groomed. The walkways throughout the resort were so peaceful and well-lit.

And there were all kinds of critters throughout the resort. Lots of iguanas, peacocks, coatis, and birds. The lay out made it easy to get around, and there was always a golf cart going by on the main pathway to offer a ride if necessary. The pool was immaculate….the theater was very nice…the lobby area was a perfect place to hang out after dinner for a drink and listening to live music.

FINAL THOUGHT
Overall…we were VERY satisfied with our choice of resort and will DEFINITELY return! This was THE MOST RELAXING vacation we’ve had in MANY years! EVERYONE was great…front desk, bellmen, housekeeping, bartenders, wait staff in the buffets…everyone. Very friendly and very helpful. We’re already looking forward to next time.

I have travelled over close to 20 years, having stayed at several Iberostar properties. This was our first vacation at Iberostar Cozumel. The price was right and I knew Iberostar is pretty consistent, and this trip was no different.
This is a smaller resort, with small and quant buildings that snake through the resort. The service was good throughout. Jose at the pool or beach bars, Ana who took very good care of use on the beach, plus the numerous people throughout th week. My "Milkman" who had a glass for me every morning for coffee in our room - very appreciated.

Star friend Paola did a decent job of coaxing us for activities.

The grounds are well taken care of, and you can see the refreshing of the buildings and gardens throughout. The maid service was excellent.

The ala cartes (Steak house the fav) were also very good.

Iberostar impressed us with the elimination of disposable water bottles. Very impressed with this ( refillable glass bottles in the room). Well done Iberostar!

If there was one thing to suggest... there are very few chairs for the balconies and decks... my first where I had to ask (twice) as our room and only received one. Something to invest in.

Overall, a good week and didn't disappoint.

We visited this resort by buying a Day Pass. We stayed in Playa del Carmen but due to the sargasso, it was impossible to swim. We looked for other beaches that were sargasso free and also that had installations to get umbrellas, chairs, showers, and lunch so we didn't waste time going to too many different places as we had to cross using the ferry and it is about 45 min one way.

We took a cab to the hotel (prices are flat and you can see them posted on the taxi stand) took 20 minutes to get to the hotel. However, I didn't notice that I dropped my wallet in the taxi when we exit. I was checking in with my day pass reservation and noticed my wallet was gone. I told the receptionist (nearly in tears) and she quickly asked the bellhop to call the front gate and see if the driver left. He had left, but they had the information for the taxi company from the gate and taxi number so they track the driver and he came back with my wallet (with no missing money).

The receptionist was so kind, saying they will try to help us as best as they could and not to worry. That was above and beyond as we were not even staying there as guests. While the driver came back, the receptionist checked us in with no problems, told us where was everything, explain to us about the buffet, drinks, and the day pass also included towels. Again thank you to the staff for being so quick, you were life savers!

The grounds are gorgeous, we saw a red macaw, a blue macaw, peacocks, and flamingos.

The pool area is really big and there are rooms around them. Each room seemed to have their own hammock but there is a hammock area on the pool too. The restrooms were clean and big, you can change clothes there and also beach showers to rinse off. When we arrived there was some entertainment and dancing going by the pool.

There are sun lounges around the pool and also by the beach and palapas.
We were able to get sun lounges on the shade and eventually a palapa after some people left. There is a swim bar, a snack bar, and a bar close to the beach. A waitress kept coming back asking if we wanted anything to drink.

The beach was so clean, the sand impecabble and same for the water, not a hint of sargasso. The only issue with the water was that there are rocks and corals so is best to wear water shoes. It is not deep and has gentle waves, very easy to swim.

There is also a dock and we saw a boat coming back and forth with people from the hotel. You could also go down the dock to snorkel.

The lunch was a buffet, there were a few options, grill, pasta, pizza, fajita station, salads, desserts. A waiter will get you the drinks. The food was pretty tasty and I liked that some dishes had individual mini plates so you only take what you will eat.

We enjoyed our time and next time will stay there to enjoy the rooms too!

We stayed at the Iberostar 11/27 - 12/5 and had a wonderful time with our family and friends! From the moment we walked into the resort we could see the cleaning and sanitizing are part of the daily routine. The staff all wear masks and some wear face shields as well. The buffet is set up with individual plates for desserts, salads, fruit etc. Otherwise food is placed on your plate by one of the staff. Very neat and clean in the restaurants.
Our room was very clean and spacious. We did ask for a coffee maker and coffee packets which were delivered right away. They kept our fridge stocked, coffee replaced and room was nice and clean daily.
The wait staff at the pool, beach and restaurants were amazing! They took great care of us throughout the week. The food was delicious! Our family has been to this resort an average of 5 times. It seems like the variety at the buffets was less but what was served was very good! We sat in Francisco's section for breakfast and lunch most of the time. At breakfast, he would have our coffee and tea ready almost before we sat down! The staff at dinner amazing as well! The night we had shrimp, our server gave us bowls of water along with clean napkins to wash off our finger tips when we were finished! I am forgetting his name, sorry! it started with an R. Overall excellent service!
The diving was awesome! I'm not a diver but the rest of the family had a great time! Our 11 year old granddaughter took the introductory class with Eva. What a great experience! Eva and Anjie hit it off right away! Eva encouraged Anjie every step of the way and she was able to make her first successful dive! Very exciting! My husband can't say enough about the staff at the dive shop. He is always so impressed by their professionalism in and out of the water. For this reason 2 of our kids have gotten their diving certification from the Dive Masters at this location.
I certainly did my best to stay busy during the day. The fitness trainer led water aerobics daily as well as yoga or Zumba in the afternoons. Great classes and fun! There are staff led games by the pool and on the beach daily with Angelo, Cesar and Arriadna! Pick up sticks, hockey, bowling etc were fun! They even have prizes too!
My husband and I enjoyed a couples massage in the spa. The masseuse' were fantastic and it was very relaxing. The spa was spotless and maintained the cleaning protocols.
Evening entertainment was enjoyable! We were able to see our beach friends Angelo, Cesar and Arriadna! I am not sure which show was my favorite (maybe the best couple?) Lots of laughter, music and a great way to wind down in the evening! Thank you for keeping us entertained during the day and the evening!
Overall it was a great trip and we are looking forward to our next trip to the Iberostar in Cozumel!

My husband and I choose Iberostar Cozumel based on having experienced a wonderful stay at Iberostar Punta Cana and having only visited Cozumel during a cruise.

Iberostar Cozumel has absolutely nothing on Iberostar Punta Cana. Major renovations need to occur (i.e. gym, upkeep of the pool and beach area) and an upgrade on the food being offered (i.e. Iberostar Punta Cana offer lobster at no additional cost, food at the buffet was cold).

The food at the buffet was repetitive and inadequate. The food that was left was usually cold. I thought it was because we came at the end of lunch service but it was the same quality of food at 12 Noon when the food should be ample as it was a peak service time. We were able to have dinner at the 3 restaurants at the resort and the steakhouse was the best. The Asian fusion restaurant was OK and the Mexican restaurant was extremely disaapointing to say the least.

The drinks at the bar made up for the subpar food. My favorite bartenders were Reyes and Leonel. Reyes was extremely attentive and had the next rounds ready for my husband and I and we NEVER needed to ask. Leonel is usually located at the swim up pool bar and is "Busy Busy" (His words, not mine). Ask for the Leonel Special (No clue what's in it because Leonel wouldn't tell me when I asked). It is refreshing and delicious.

The staff at guest services have to do a better job at explaining what the resort has to offer. For example, the Mexican restaurant is open late for snacks. My husband and I noticed that they were turning over the restaurant and inquired why. We weren't told by the guest services staff but by the waiter that the restaurant was open during the night for snacks (hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries and drinks).

The resort lacks diversity... this is by no means the fault of Iberostar as they do not select their guest but a marketing strategy needs to be developed in order to attract more diversified guests to this location.

The staff at this resort are 5 star! They couldn't do enough for you.
Special thanks to Wilbert and Francisco. Every bar we went to, the staff were very efficient and very friendly at the same time.

Overall the food was very good both at the buffet and the a la carte restaurant. We went to the steak house more than once and were very happy with the food. Tip: steaks are heavily salted and served relatively rare (we asked for no salt and they were very accommodating-still tasted great).

The room was clean and comfortable but a little dated. We loved the "Wave of Change" that Iberostar has started. The policy of no single use plastic and refillable glass water bottles is something Iberostar should be proud of.

The nightly entertainment was far better than what we expected. Well worth going to see every night.

The beach is sandy but walking in the water it is rough and water shoes are helpful. You can get into the water from stairs on the dock if you want to. We never had an issue getting beach chairs even when we got to the beach late morning or early afternoon. All the chairs were in good shape. Getting a fresh beach towel is never a problem either.

We would highly recommend this resort.

The Hotel and Staff are superb!

The Hotel has a very relaxed and family-oriented atmosphere. And at the same time they have very good security which makes you feel very safe.

They also took all the COVID/Sanitary precautions: social distancing, antibactetrial gel, masks and all the areas, restaurants and rooms were cleaned and sanitized everyday.

The food is delicious and the drinks are great.

My favorite place is the snack bar: Hot dogs, fries and hamburguers were delicious, the hamburgers are made with fresh ground beef!

I highly recommend that the bars would have Corona Extra and Victoria Beer and the Original Baileys.

The shows are good, but I think they can make some adjustments, I suggest that the hotel would turn the couples show into a more family oriented show, I recommend that they could have a Rock show with all types of Rock: Classic, Alternative, Hard Rock, etc that covers different decades of music.

Thanks to: Star Kids team:Ismael, Kika and Rosy, Star Friends team: Cesar, Angelo, Ariana and Jared, Waiters: Fidel, Wilbert, Rogelio, Didier, Adrian, Cindy, Ana, Tere, Felipe and Hector, Head waiter: Roberto, Chef: Christian, Snack: Kervin and Maria, Concierge:Alex and Zuri, Reception: Toño.

Special thanks to Star Kids member: Ismael, for taking such great care of all the Kids, he's a very nice, smart, gentle and caring person.

We've had a blast and hope to return very soon!

I was so happy to have booked my vacation at the Iberostar Cozumel hotel. I got an all-inclusive package with Funjet vacations to stay at the Iberostar and it was the most wonderful experience. The food is excellent. You can have food all day long and enjoy different tastes and flavors. If you are a vegan or following any type of special diet they have you covered. The atmosphere of the hotel is relaxing, the rooms are setup as cabanas along a big space full of tropical vegetation where you feel you are in a small town surrounded by nature. The rooms are very clean, with all the commodities such as air conditioned, TV, hair dryer, great amenities such as shampoo, hair conditioner, body wash, and they also provided a little bottle of insect repellent lotion to look after you. The service is also excellent! All personnel of all departments from rooms to Reception to restaurants, very helpful and very welcoming. I also recommend to download the Iberostar App so you can see all the activities they have during the day, for everybody in the family. From aqua-aerobics at the pool to Karaoke at night to Fiesta Mexicana with an excellent show! Could not have been happier at my stay that I want to return! This hotel is perfect for families, newly weds, and adults alone (my case), meaning Everybody!
If you like to enjoy snorkeling or scuba diving you can book your tours at the hotel and you don't need to go anywhere else. I highly recommend the Iberostar Cozumel, you won't regret it!

Just returned from a 2 week stay at Iberostar. Resort is very clean, green and lush with very manicured grounds.
Rooms are upgraded however, are on the small side. With only 2 people in the room, no problem. Our room was cleaned well each day and always smelled fresh upon arrival.
Buffets and a la carte restaurants are great. We have spent the last 3 years at a resort just north of Iberostar, and the food was only mediocre. At Iberostar, we thoroughly enjoyed the buffet restaurant, always lots to choose from and the food was always cooked well. The mexican a la carte was our favorite. Coconut shrimp and fish tacos were the best.
Pool was large and well kept although we spent 13 of the 14 days at the beach. Lots of lounges at the beach and a great view.
The only complaint we had at this resort was......the coffee at the restaurants. However, the 2 cup coffee machine in our room fixed this. We had coffee in our room every morning before heading to the buffet breakfast.
Nightly shows - we don't typically take in the nightly shows, but took in 5 at least during our stay. The entertainment staff is so hard working and put on great shows.
All in all, a very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable vacation at Iberostar. Hope to see you next year.

This was our second stay at the Cozumel Iberostar, and it was even better than the first. Renee at the front desk checked us in and was so efficient, friendly and helpful. We requested a room closer to the pool & dive shop, and he made the change immediately and moved us to the perfect spot in Building 22. The rooms are spacious, super clean and inviting. I cannot say enough about the cleaning/maid service. Every day when we came back to our room in the late afternoon, the room was impeccably spotless. The food in both buffets was excellent. So much to choose from, and the restaurant staff are amazing. The food at the grill near the beach/pool area was delicious as well. The grounds at this resort are amazing. Beautifully landscaped with lots of wildlife...iguanas, peacocks, coati, flamingos, cats, parrots. If you're into scuba diving, which my husband most definitely is, this resort is the place to go. So convenient with Dressel Divers right there on site, and they are the best around. The free on-site Covid test needed to return to the US was painless and super easy. Only took about 15 minutes out of our day to get tested, and we had the results the next morning. I give this resort an A+++. If you want a loud, partying resort, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you want to dive and just chill, this is the place to go. It's absolutely perfect, and we will most definitely be returning soon.
