My family recently stayed 4 nights here in a ocean view family suite. We loved the hotel. It is NOT a party place and was not crowded ( so there were always good tanning chairs open.) The breakfast was delish as well as the other meals and snacks that we had(guacamole/pico and chips). The room and balcony were great! All the staff was friendly. There were definitely a lot of repeat guests staying there. FYI-guest rooms were airconditioned but all the common areas are open air, no elevator, our room had a safe and refrigerator. It was a very relaxing vacation.

I’d read many of the reviews before deciding to stay here for a week at the beginning of November. During my stay the hotel was mostly deserted as we were there at the end of low season. This was wonderful for us as we felt like we owned the place. The beach was amazing with incredible views of the sunset. The staff was very attentive and brought us drinks immediately. The beach chairs were very comfortable. I’d read a couple of previous reviews that complained about the “rocky beach area”. It’s not rock, it’s coral, lol, which is what the whole island is made of. So don’t let that scare you away from this gem. The breakfast, which was included, was wonderful every morning. The coffee was fresh and the orange juice was freshly squeezed. There is a recreational area next door that has zip lines and water sports. UNFORTUNATELY this was only for cruise ship travelers. I was a little disappointed when I asked the front desk about the recreational area that they didn’t tell me it was only for cruise ship travelers. They had to have known. Also there was no concierge desk to arrange for outings. I would definitely stay here again! Don’t forget to check out the large tree in front of the hotel. There are dozens of turtles around the tree that you can feed. Just ask the kitchen for scrap fruit and they’ll give you a bag full which the turtles come running for!!! It’s pretty comical. There are several restaurants within walking distance. However if you want to go to centro you’ll need to take a 95 peso taxi ride. Pay with pesos!

Hola from Playa Azul Cozumel Thank you very much for your nice and detailed comment, we are so happy to read that you had a good time and that you enjoyed the hotel, the breakfast, the sunsets and the service. Yes unfortunately the activities next door are just for cruise ship travelers and they should have told you at the front desk, sorry for that. It will be a pleasure to host you again here and pamper you as you deserve We will be waiting for you Kind regards Ana

Let me start by saying that the Playa Azul is a very nice traditional hotel, and we have been loyal guests for numerous years. The wait staff are mostly long-time employees and are truly wonderful. The pool and beach areas are both well maintained, accommodating and not too large as to become overly crowded. Unfortunately, that is where my positive thoughts come to an end. It has become obvious to me that hotel mgt. is beginning to take its loyal customers for granted and we heard that from other guests that do not plan to return after their current stay. The hotel restaurant has gone from above average to below and the dining room and lobby bar remain dull and pretty much drab. Unfortunately, the prices have gone up and the $ value is going down fast. Other than checking you in and out, the front does not offer much in the way of assistance. At one point I asked for change to pay for taxi fare and the front desk attendant simply said they don’t keep any and turned away. While now on a par with other hotels pricewise, Playa lacks the everyday amenities of its competitors. The physical aspects of the hotel are in disrepair and there appears to be no interest in r and r. I take no joy in writing this review, or not returning, but it must be said. While I am confident the Playa will continue to survive as is, it will not be with my business or apparently that of some other guests I spoke with. We and they for the most part will be going to the Coral Princess or the Westin next door. In my opinion, long time loyal guests have earned a bit of a pro active special room rate (particularly when you can get a better Playa room rate online), a welcome drink, smiles and enthusiasm at check in, these are all visibly lacking. I have read mgt. responses to previously posted complaints and see these same issues still exist today, unfortunately this simply confirms my observations and experiences. April 2019

I'm late in getting this review since our trip was this past October 2018 (I forgot I had an account here). We traveled to Playa Azul on a week when the hotel was virtually empty because it was at the end of hurricane season and the next week, the hotel was going to be full. We actually loved the fact that we had the place to ourselves! Since we were one of one other couple occupying a room during our stay, instead of putting out the usual breakfast buffet, they were so nice and let us order whatever we wanted. The last day of our visit, I got a UTI and the gentleman at the front desk went above and beyond to get me some meds and had them delivered to the hotel. Hours later after feeling 100% better, I went to him, tears in my eyes and had to give him a hug for all he did for me. We are going back this October and would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Cozumel.

This hotel is lovely. The golf package is wonderfully orchestrated between the hotel and golf course. The staff is warm and friendly. The breakfast has lots of options with your choice of numerous buffet items with eggs to your liking. The ocean is easily accessible with a pier to walk down and jump in if you'd like, or you can enter from the shore. There are lounge chairs, a lovely pool, and beach bar. The daily service are friendly and helpful with darling animals with flowers for your enjoyment! You won't regret staying here!
