My son and I travel almost every month. Last minute our reservation in the Bahamas was cancelled (Covid), so I booked this. We had never been to Cozumel, but had been to Playa Del Carmen, Cabo, and Cancún. This was no ordinary hotel. I don’t even feel like I am in MX, it feels like Belize. This resort is beautiful, lush green trees everywhere, spotless, amazing food, and friendly staff. We will be back soon!

The Presidente Inter-Continental in Cozumel is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The rooms are very clean and modern, the ocean and beach are fantastic as well as the food. The staff is incredibly friendly , we even had the chance to meet the Generalmanager, Patrick which is the most charming and charismatic person I have had the chance to meet in a very long time. Both the GM and the staff gave us an overall extremely safe and clean feeling during these pandemic times. The safety and hygiene measures were outstanding and most professional I have seen up until now compared to any other hotel I have stayed at in the last couple of month. The resort is big with a lot of space. I would defiantly go back there at any time.

The presidente intercontinental Cozumel is running a money exchange SCAM on its customers. This deception is known to hotel management and endorsed by the hotels headquarters. Here is how they do it: 1. Each time you pay a tab you will be shown the price in dollars and in local currency (Mexican pesos). 2. However the Mexican pesos will have been marked up by about 5% above the actual exchange rate. YOU WON’T KNOW THIS if you don’t check it out. 3. When you check out of the hotel, they will REFUSE TO TELL YOU what the amount in dollars is. Nor will they allow you to pay in dollars. They know that if you check the exchange rate at this point that you will choose dollars and the scam won’t work. They will only show you pesos and you must pay in pesos which have been inflated by 5%. Example: My restaurant tabs and services are quoted to me individually over a week in dollars that add up to $2,000. The correct conversion to pesos for $2,000 (as I write this) is 44,647 MP. However, all along the hotel has been inflating the pesos on all of those tabs and services and when you check out, you will be given a bill for about 46,879 pesos. THAT’S AN OVERCHARGE OF 2,232 PESOS OR $100 USD. At the point of checkout, you will not be shown the dollar amount and you will be forced to pay the peso amount. This is about the principle of the thing. Intercontinental!!!! Don’t lie to me. Don’t try to trick and deceive me with you pricing BS. If you want $2100 instead of $2000, just tell me that pricing openly as you deliver services instead of hiding the $100 in your exchange scheme. THE ON-PROPERTY DIVE SHOP (Scuba Du) IS EVEN WORSE. They show pricing only in dollars. If you pay with credit card they add 13%. So they tell you to pay in cash to save money. But if that cash is pesos, they add 5% just like the hotel. The only way to avoid the problem at the dive shop is to actually have a bunch of American dollars on you when you arrive. But not knowing this in advance, many people don’t bring enough dollars. Btw, when you’re in Mexico and you pay in pesos, there is no money exchange anyway. The hotel and the dive shop both want you to pay in pesos, so no money exchange is required. But they want you to think you’re paying less than you are. Thus the fake quotes in American dollars. Shame on you intercontinental. By the way, the rest of the hotel experience was great.

The hotel recently reopened, and with direct flights now available from Mexico City, we are back for a long week end of relaxing and scuba diving. Of course everything is different with the new coronavirus health precautions. But the hotel manages it very well. Breakfast functions even without its famous buffet, and the Beach Restaurant Le Cap is as good as before. Some restaurants just reopened, like Alfredo di Roma, and their fetuchini Alfredo were not yet at their best. The scuba diving is as spectacular as we always knew it.

We have been to Cozumel and Cancun too many times to count and we have always stayed at hotel's that offered all inclusive. (4-5 star hotel's) This was the first time staying at Intercontinental and this hotel does not offer all inclusive. We had two Luxury ocean view rooms, (Two Queen Beds) it was in the renovated part of the building so it was clean but nothing to rave about. It's pretty comparable to other hotels in Cozumel. It is just not GRAND and luxurious like other 5 star hotels in Cancun. Service also pretty comparable to other hotels nothing above and beyond. However, few people do come to mind who would always ask and check on us to make sure we were taken care and that was Manuel, Jose and David. They remembered our family from the second day. We stayed from June 28-July 4 and it was pretty quite and relaxing. This is the hotel to come for a relaxing vacation to snorkel and enjoy peace and quite. No loud music, no games at the pool, no loud crazy drunk people, no water aerobics, no Zumba or Yoga lessons, no night entertainment. But the pool and the beach area is open 24 hours. But be aware of mosquitos, gnats and bugs, We all usually get bitten and have few bug bites but this time, my husband had so many bug bites all over his body he couldn't enjoy this vacation at all. There were so many bites we were shocked. Except for the area that his swim shorts were covering he was bitten all over his whole body and legs. However, the next day we saw them spraying all around the hotel and I think that helped. Basically the hotel can be little boring and quite sometimes, so you will have to make the best of it. There is a great snorkel right off the beach on the south end of the hotel. (bring your own snorkel) Restaurant food is much better than all inclusive or at least the quality is better. Dollar to peso (22 Pesos to a dollar) was great so when we checked out for 6 adults we paid $3k for food and drinks. (we didn't drink any alcohol) For those of you who need to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, Restaurants serve bottled water or filtered water so you can request either one. The hotel seems to be well prepared with temperature checks, masks, rubbing alcohol gels. All staff are wearing masks. QR codes are used for menus, hotel maps etc. Only thing I didn't like is that at check in there was no explanation of the hotel amenities or where anything is located. You pretty much have to figure it out yourself. So to sum it up. Out of 6 adults 4 say they would return and My husband not so much due to mosquitos bites. Me, I think I would go elsewhere as well.
