Allegro Cozumel is celebrated for its friendly staff and immaculate cleanliness, with guests consistently commending the well-maintained rooms and grounds. The hotel's location draws praise for its proximity to the beach, although it is sometimes noted for a lack of serenity. While the vibrant atmosphere is a hit for those seeking entertainment, others desire quieter music and more peaceful environs.
Guests appreciate the family-friendly amenities and beach but suggest enhancements to pool temperature and evening entertainment. The value proposition, however, is a point of contention, with concerns about overpricing and the quality of food and premium packages. Additionally, the rooms are noted for their cleanliness but criticized for noise issues and a need for updates and better privacy.

Allergo Resort on Cozumel Island in Mexico provided an amazing getaway that I won't soon forget! I loved every minute of my stay, as did the 6 others I went with (family and friends). This review is long but informational for anyone interested in staying at this resort...
Resort~
Direct access to a beautiful white sand beach, with crystal clear waters. On site pools, bars, hot tub, daily activities and entertainment. (Volleyball on the beach was a hit). This resort never seemed crowded which was really nice, an ideal size with all the amenities less than a 5 minute walk apart. The staff at Allegro were very friendly and accommodating, a special shoutout to Gabrielle and Zarely for outstanding service! Rooms were grouped in smaller buildings and clean- I'd recommend a second floor room (balcony) and away from the night entertainment. Great sunsets on the beach, right over the ocean. There was some wildlife on the resort including iguanas and coatis.
Food~
There is a buffet available all day, always lots of selection and many tasty options! On site there are 3 a la carte restaurants (Mexican, Italian, and Japanese) which are all delicious, make reservations early. I would highly recommend trying the taco stand across the street during your stay, easily accessible and delicious. Alberto's restaurant just a short walk down the beach is a great spot for a dinner off the resort, try to go when they have live music.
Location ~
Being secluded on Cozumel Island is a real getaway. The island is small enough to explore and easily navigate. A bonus of Allegro's resort location is the car rental hut, taxi service, shops, and restaurant across the street- many of the other resorts would require a trip to town for any of these. An airport right on the island cut travel time. There is a bustling town center with lots of shops, as well as several shops and restaurants scattered along the shore of the island. I highly recommend renting a jeep to explore the island. We brought our own snorkel masks and water shoes (recommended) and drove around to try different spots. Stopping at Elpescador was a highlight of our trip offering a great snorkel spot right off the beach.
I would highly recommend Allegro Cozumel to anyone looking to getaway, I sincerely hope to return one day.

We stayed for 5 weeks this time, end of Jan to early March, and had a fabulous time. We cannot say enough positive things about the staff there. From manager Walter Cen, who took such good care of us making sure we were able to stay in same room and were treated like VIPs (we are NOT owners), to all of the restaurant managers & staff. We especially appreciated Ignacio, Flores, Sergio & so many servers who greeted us so warmly & remembered our drink orders. The manager of the lunch & Mexicsn restaurant is also awesome & very service oriented. The staff all work very hard, but always with a smile. We noticed the GM David very engaged, always visible helping out at the buffet and walking the grounds. Very impressive.
The specialty restaurants were always very good. The buffets always had lots of salad choices, and usually had a fish, chicken, pork & beef choice. True that food is often lukewarm, so best best for entree at buffets was always something freshly grilled, if available. It is a good idea to have hamburgers, hot dogs, & nachos poolside to avoid a line at lunch restaurant. They do that some days, but would be better if every day.
Our maid was awesome leaving us towel animals often, and the grounds were beautiful as always. The pools were kept sparkling clean, and we noticed the water being tested regularly & pools cleaned often as well. The beach was beautiful as always.
One negative for us was the music that was often way too loud for us at the activity pool. It was so nice there when the music was at a lower volume. We did appreciate that we had the relax pool to escape it at times, haha. They did have plenty of activities, tho, and beach volleyball in the afternoon was always popular & fun to watch from the ocean.
Given Mexico's economic situation and the hard work & long hours of staff, we always left a small tip at meals & for maid. It didn't affect the quality of service, which seemed great for everyone, but always brought a smile.
Thank you again for everything, Walter. We hope to be back next year!

My husband and I spent 10 days at Allegro in March. The beach setting is stunning, the landscaping lush with great plants, and the dive shop has a friendly and professional staff.
The guest services manager and a team of chefs worked to accommodate my food allergy to soy since I was not able to eat from the buffet. I met several times with the guest services manager who developed a lunch and dinner menu that was served to me at set times. The manager and chefs were very friendly, professional, and worked hard to make sure I did not get sick. The food cooked for me was fresh and delicious! Their extra effort to accommodate my food allergy made a huge difference in the success of our vacation.
We paid for the ultimate dive package which gave us access to VIP locations including a better room located closer to the beach and a beach bar with a great view where we ate breakfast and lunch. This made all the difference! The general dining hall is in a stuffy, windowless room in the back of the resort.
Two things we didn't like: the evening entertainment was so loud it dominated the entire resort late into the evening and ruined the ambiance, and the dining room at the back of the resort really, really needs an update to make it an appealing space with windows and a much better vibe.
A big highlight for us was ProDive. We got in 14 dives with the team and absolutely love the staff. It is fantastic to have their office on location at Allegro and leave from the resort pier each day to head out on their dive boats. The staff were knowledgeable, fun and had safety as a priority. We saw spotted eagle rays, rays, turtles, and so many other things...
Our room was clean and nicely situated. The cleaning staff were friendly and left towel creatures with flowers.
We were sad to leave and our hearts are with the Allegro staff and the ProDive staff as they face the uncertainty of COVID-19.

The location of the resort allowed my wife and I to walk unimpeded for about three miles toward town, passing only a few other resorts. On the other hand we could walk more than four miles, more if we so desired, in the opposite direction. The beaches were remarkable clean and free of human-generated debris.
Although we do not have children, the resort offered well designed children’s pools and play areas and even a children’s boutique. Most guests appeared to spend their time around the pools and directed their attention to the alcoholic beverages that came with the all inclusive option.
The food options were so so and very basic. While the variety was there we were not entirely satisfied with the offerings. We dined at the Italian option (reservations required) and found the options limited and not prepared optimally, I would recommend a digital thermometer for the chef as the fish came too well done, I.e., overcooked. The salad bar was sparse and the breads there only appeared after we were through dining. Service was so so. The Mexican option (reservations required) was a little better including the fish that was prepared to perfection. We did not try the Japanese option.
The lunch option in the same building as the Mexican option seemed better organized, perhaps because there were fewer options available in a smaller dining venue.
The staff we encountered were all courteous and helpful. The small room was ample for two seniors. Of special service was the bouquet of fresh flowers, the plate of fresh fruit, and the remarkable folded towel sculptures provided by Irma, our housekeeper.
Would we go there again? If we were not expecting a fine culinary experience, the resort is fine. Our main goal in visiting this resort was its location away from other resorts and its location on remarkably clean beaches that afforded us to take long walks unimpeded by hordes of people and trash. To that end, this resort more than met our expectations and for that reason we see no reason not to return.

After reading a few reviews I was a bit worried but I had a great time.
The food is average. If you are a foodie this is not your place. That being said when we requested the romantic dinner for four( celebrating a 70th birthday) they stepped up to the plate! It rained, so we ate inside the premium snack building and had a great view of ocean and sunset. The food was very nice with a wonderful presentation and the service from our waiter was outstanding. The birthday girl was very pleased!
Our rooms were always cleaned and when we asked the staff to make sure we had plenty of water, she kept it over full and we drank most of it daily.
We stayed in premium area and felt it was worth the upgrade. We walked a short distance to the premium pool, beach and Henry! The best server, he takes he his job very serious and does everything he can to makes sure your requests are met.
This trip was made during COVID so the resort was at about 50%, which is bad for the resort but great for us. It did limit some services but we went for the beach, the sun, the pool, etc! Mask must be worn and temperatures taken to get on the resort and eat.
Watch your bracelet they give you! They charge you $50 if you loose it and my friends fell off many times. Luckily we found it in the room or on her bed every time. My bracelet never fell off but I tried to keep an eye on it. I liked the ease of the bracelet and not having to carry a key or a card.
The customer service rep was amazing! She tried to stay on top of our request (70th birthday)and concerns (not a resort issue, watch customs! Don’t take Hempz lotion or it I’ll cost your 200 bucks!)
Overall, if you are looking to dive, snorkel play at the beach, relax, play volleyball, this is your place.

Pros:
The beach
Close to dive sites
Cons:
Rooms are tired / grungy bathtub / missing shampoo/bodywash dispenser
Food: little selection, restaurants were croweded, little to no table service
Wifi not free nor widely available. Reception sells wifi "cards" - what a joke - I couldn't purchase a 7 day pass because that "card" wasn't available, had to wait until someone who had that card checked out!
No cash conversion at concierge for tipping. Had to change a $20 with the bartenders!
Food access unavailable at certain times - from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Bars don't serve alcohol until after 12:00 noon! What???
Cable TV in the rooms went completely down on several nights

Everything was a hassle.
Incompetent front desk staff. We had to manage issues ourselves, even finding our own crib from the cleaning crew because the staff couldnt get us one. We had 1 of 8 requests taken care off.
Rooms were all mixed up, it took 4 days of bugging the staff to get it organized.
Had to book the restaurants 1 week ahead of time, process took an hour of standing in line.
Rooms lock broken 4 times.
Switched rooms twice.
Thatched roofs let rain in to drip on our heads. It didnt block any sound so we could hear all conversations around us.
Entertainment was painfully loud every night until 1030pm. We could not sleep and it woke up the kids.
Splash pad was fun but badly maintained, make hissing houses constantly and many squirt guns did not work.
Food was decent but never hot on the buffet line.
There is no food available between 5 and 6pm (dinner time for the kids).
Service at the restaurants was so rushed that they often cleared your plate before you even finished your meal. Often we had to go back to get the same food because they cleared it before we finished.
The wifi is a racket! $12/ day, often unavailable, we had to go back to the desk every day to ask them if it was available. At this price it should be included. They say it cant be used for more than 2 devices but it can.
They sprayed insecticides without warning, sending clouds of smoke and a noxious smell wafting while kids playing nearby.
Otherwise the space was nice, the beds comfy.
The timeshare sales staff was not too pushy.
Shared bathrooms were gross. Often clogged flooded.
It smelled of sewage around the property.
Some staff like the kids play center, cooks and some service staff were really friendly and helpful.

One day First Club beach chairs removed by hotel guests from the First Club area. Not enough chairs remained for the First Club guests. Nothing could be done because the First Club chairs are no different from the hotel chairs. Security was called but he was not able to do anything to remedy the situation.
First Club owners who pay maintenance fees to sustain their area are complaining about the underwhelming maintenance of the rooms. Repairs and upgrades needed, the repair of the golf cart which is used to pick up and deliver arriving and departing guests. Plus the use of the rooms by the hotel and offered as upgrade by the hotel. We paid thousands of dollars for the First Club experience and hundreds each year to maintain that experience, which is deteriorating annually at this hotel. Do better for the owners and members of the Occidental timeshare please.
Long lines and waiting for lunch and breakfast, heavily occupied with many guests, this needs to be addressed by opening the Topaz for lunch too.

The good things: Henri in the Premium breakfast area gave great service. The views. The Mexican restaurant.
The bad: Where do we start? The room was less than ideal for a family of 4. It was not clear that although you have a separate bathroom, the sink is actually in the bedroom. With a teenage daughter this was less than ideal. The people in the room next to us snored, and it felt like we were sharing with them as the walls are paper thin. Sheets were worn and old, and the resort has a tired feeling to it.
This resort seems to cater mainly to drunk Americans and Canadians who felt that urinating in the bushes around our room was acceptable. The people on the floor above also seemed to think it was ok to spit off the balcony.
The sea: We booked here because we wanted to have access to good snorkeling. Sadly there is little to be had directly in front of the hotel. The area designated for swimming was pretty much devoid of life- naturally there were lots of fish congregating around the jetty, yet we were repeatedly whistled at and shouted at when we swam round there. We appreciate that there is a risk of boat traffic but did not appreciate being treated like children. (Incidentally if you have made the mistake of booking here, do take a look around the jetty, as we saw barracuda, rays and a moray eel there). Thank goodness we had rented a car and were able to go elsewhere to snorkel!
Restaurants: The Mexican restaurant was good, but be warned that you cannot actually go to any of the restaurants unless you book in advance, and are allowed a minimal number of bookings per stay ( In our case 2 for a week, but we only managed to book 1). The rest of the time you are confined to eating the buffet which was quite poor most days. To make it worse the staff seem completely run off their feet and overworked. We also had an interesting experience where we were told we could not sit at either of the 2 tables we wanted to because they were "reserved"- but we were given no option to reserve tables during the lunches and were supposed to be premium guests!

Cons:
• Food is subpar. Edible but not enjoyable.
•Only 2 reservations at the restaurants per stay. The rest of time you have to eat at the buffet, which is understaffed so you are standing around waiting for them to serve you because they don’t allow you to serve yourself.
• You have to wear a mask all the time. At the restaurants. At the towel station at the pool. At the buffet. During check in/checkout. Even at the outdoor bar next to the pool.
• You have to pay for a Covid test (unlike most resorts that offer it complimentary) & it’s administered incorrectly by non-medical staff.
• Mattresses are very hard & all rooms smell musty.
• No nighttime entertainment. No shows, no disco.
• The hotel does not respect the exchange rate & will shortchange you
• Swimup bar smelled like poo the whole time. GROSS.
Pros:
• The resort is clean & well landscaped
• Boat dock is feet away & easy to access for fishing and snorkeling trips
• Big rooms if you are First Club
FYI:
• June/July is rainy season and the water is covered in seaweed. Not the resorts fault but a good FYI.
• It’s a $40 ride to town & $75 to/from the airport
• Go fishing, it’s Mahi Mahi season & the buffet chef will cook it for you
• DO NOT buy the membership. They constantly make new tiers & after 20 years of ownership my in-laws are not allowed to use First Club amenities because “they’ve created new tiers” and they are no longer “top tier”
