We stayed at the Nizuc spa resort in February 2020 with Insprito vacation club. This is one of the most fascinating places that we’ve stayed with Inspirato so far. The service was at the excellence of some of the most finest resorts and hotels. And all of the staff were sincere and gracious upon any request. We had a villa with our own private pool that included a small breakfast every morning with the yummiest pastries made right in their restaurant. We enjoyed every moment and in fact we will be returning in June 2020 to enjoy this resort with new friends. This resort will always be my first choice when returning back to Cancun Mexico.

This is a difficult review to write because there were so many things right with this hotel, however there are a few things that were wrong, but the biggest thing that killed the entire experience was the poor experience at the end of the stay. The rooms. Great. The basic rooms with a plunge pool are really all you need. They are huge. The plunge pool can be heated. You have to call down in the morning and it will be heated by the end of the night or the best morning. It’s like warm. Not any warmer than that. We took a look at a few larger rooms but they were not really worth the upgrade price. The view out of the room was not very nice. The only down side of garden view rooms. We didn’t have a gig mosquito problem. We saw a few. The resort. BEAUTIFUL Upscale and picturesque. Felt like you were in an exotic location and not I. Cancun. Lush and tropical. The beach. Was good enough. Not great. Not as nice as the hotel zone but it is better than beaches on the riviera maya stretch. It wasn’t straight so it looked very tropical. The water was calm ( too calm for some). The sand was nice. Some seaweed. Plenty of chairs to layout in. Service. Friendly all over the place. The golf carts were readily available to take us every where we needed. We needed them because we would’ve gotten lost walking. The service in the restaurants was slow The pools. Very nice. The main large pool was nice. A little too chill and quiet. The music would be nice if we could hear it. It was so low that we didn’t know it was even in until Day 3. The food. Skip the breakfast buffet and just get breakfast ala cart. It’s cheaper and filling. The free chia seed yogurt with peaches on the bottom is a must have. If they don’t give to you automatically, ask for it. It’s the best I’ve ever had. Lunch is good but expensive. Dinner is good but you are better eating in Cancun. I suggest Harry’s steakhouse. You will get better food for a similar price or less. The bad. Everything was slow. It was too quiet. For the price we pay the views and beach would be nice if they were better. Can’t do much about nature. The food a little too expensive for the price. The worst was our vacation got cut short unexpectedly by the sudden death of a family member. We called the front desk and went there in person several times. Initially we were told we could check out and they would likely give us a refund since it was death related issue but they would have to check with their online manager because we booked through Expedia. We paid and packed. We then asked again if they needed anymore information from us or if we needed to talk to managers or anybody while we were there. We waited for our rides and left the resort in a somber mood. After returning home we did as they said. We contacted Expedia and started the process to get a refund if the unused nights. Expedia told us they would refund the money as long as the hotel was willing and they needed proof. This was sent to them and Expedia forwarded it the hotel management. After several attempt Expedia finally got a response saying the hotel refused our refund because we checked out without giving a reason and were unable to refund us our money. Now this took almost a month to get the answer from them. This was totally untrue. The front desk was well aware of why we were checking out. To leave the resort and realize how heartless management is was very disconcerting and a reason why I would never stay here again.

I'll do the GOOD, BAD, BEAUTIFUL, and UGLY on this resort: First, the GOOD: the rooms are relatively nice particularly the Garden Villas. We did not like the Penthouse because it is in a large apartment style building and feels more like you are staying in a downtown area with a 10 minute walk to the beach (they provide golf carts driven by staff). Be very aware of the distinction between Oceanfront and Beachfront. There are not many beachfront options (really only hotel rooms in the main building and a Presidential villa) and "Oceanfront" provides no direct access to the beach (it's behind a large mangrove of trees). There are good activities included in your price (kayaking, paddle board) and they offer classes in yoga. The spa is very pretty and has an exceptional hot tub that was the highlight of the experience. The two pools are attractive and offer great ocean views. All in all, this is the best resort in Cancun probably but you are encouraged to drive about 20 miles south to stay in a real beachfront resort in Playa Del Carmen. BAD: The food is pretty overpriced and not great. In particular, we did not like Punta which was billed as their best restaurant. The cooking skill is lacking and we were totally eaten by mosquitos the whole time (more on that under UGLY). Service was ok but they work hard to get you to purchase the most expensive menu items. Ramona had a limited menu and was costly though there was good effort put into the cooking. Indochine had a good selection of fresh fish and nice Asian meals. Oddly, our favorite restaurant was the one rated worst (Cosa Nostre I think). The food was well prepared and the service was great. The only beach that really is conducive to swimming is the adult beach on the far side of the resort and it is perennially windy. The "private dining" and "private decks" are not worth the price. The resort is convenient to the restaurants in Cancun and you can get to Playa Del Carmen relatively easily. BEAUTIFUL: The staff is fantastic (despite the fact we heard that all resort staff in the area earns only $7/day and tips are not given directly to them). In particular the butlers are very attentive and can help you with offsite activities and reservations. The products used in the spa are high quality and the Garden Villa is a true sanctuary. UGLY: There are mosquitos everywhere and we were told this is an ongoing issue. We finally requested that they fumigate our room (twice per day) and that helped a ton but did not fully eradicate the problem. You are likely to be eaten alive at the beach and Punta. We moved and stayed several nights in a resort in Playa Del Carmen and there were no mosquitos. The main beach at the resort is not particularly nice. While there are good areas to lay out for sunning, you cannot really swim as it is only knee deep for most of the area. There are airplanes flying overhead most of the day (it's convenient to the airport but somewhat too close). They were inflexible on prepaid room rates (we paid for a Penthouse, did not like it, moved to a lower class of room but did not get the $800+ refund that was justified).

This property, it’s staff and amenities is a true 5 star experience. Private, relaxing, Very zen, but warm and welcoming and incredibly accommodating for families with kids. Food and service was exceptional at every single restaurant - we loved lunch at La Punta especially. And dinner at Ramona - service outstanding. Property is beautiful clean and chic. We had a deluxe junior suite one bedroom w pool - so large, clean perfect, bed so comfortable we slept great, they made the large couch up for our daughter so sweetly each day with her toys. Kids club was included and one of the best we’ve used. Our daughter couldn’t wait to go back. Nizuc is equally perfect to go to as a couple or family because they’ve designed the property so well. Overall a perfect stay, we were very impressed.

Amazing views, architecturally stunning, gastronomic variety, peaceful, courteous and attentive staff, amenities packed room, gorgeous grounds, beautiful clean white beach, THE place to hide away in Cancun and be away from the strip.
